We've added some new entries of games inspired by the denizens of Mount Olympus, both in antiquity and modern day. We've also added some details about God of War and Persona 3, who have newer entries: a sequel series and remake, respectively.

An urban fantasy twist on Greek Mythology, Stray Gods is a narrative adventure game similar to the games in Telltale Games’ oeuvre, like The Walking Dead or Tales of the Borderland. However, this game takes the narrative in a more musical direction, with choices leading to full-blown songs as emotions come to a head.

The game stars Grace, a newly awakened Muse who inherited the position from the Muse, Calliope, who was murdered. Grace must clear her name and navigate the divine intrigue woven between Greek Gods like Apollo, Aphrodite, Hermes, and Persephone.

Greek gods and monsters command a good chunk of the roster, including well-known names like Ares, Hades, and Zeus. There are also lesser known gods like Thanatos, Nemesis, and Hecate, as well as monsters like Scylla, Charybdis, and Medusa.

There are multiple game modes in SMITE, but the most popular is the 5v5, 3-lanes and jungle format Conquest, similar to predecessor games League of Legends and Dota.

Theseus is an immersive VR experience that places you straight into the story of the Minotaur. The Minotaur was then placed into an elaborate labyrinth constructed at King Minos' request by Daedalus and his son Icarus.

NyxQuest sees you playing as Nyx, the embodiment of night within Ancient Greece. Nyx befriends Icarus when he flies into her realm within the sky, but when he disappears without warning, she then heads to the surface to search for him in the crumbling ancient Greek landscape.

The mesmerizing setting and game design seem to jump straight out of the artwork of Grecian amphora and temple friezes from the time in this Greek mythology game. Nyx is aided on her journey by the Olympians as she traverses crumbling ruins and defeats ancient monsters like the Hydra with special powers such as manipulating objects, controlling the wind, and casting powerful rays.

10 Troy: A Total War Saga

The Trojan War is the most famous conflict in all the Greek legends, and giving it the Total War treatment visualizes the tale in an unprecedented way. The series' trademark real-time battles include ranks of glittering shields as well as heroic duels that capture the spirit of Homer's epic.

Kid Icarus first jumped onto screens in 1986, quickly becoming one of the more popular games for NES. It's a cult classic, is more lighthearted than other Greek mythology games, and often centers around the protagonist Pit. He must find sacred treasures, traverse platforms, and defeat bosses in order to save the Grecian-inspired world of Angel Land and the goddess Palutena, who is thought to be based on the Greek goddess Athena.

Kid Icarus has come a long way from his humble NES beginnings. The 3DS game Kid Icarus: Uprising was released in 2012 and Pit, Dark Pit, and Palutena became recurring characters in the Smash Bros series.

8 Persona 3

Persona 3 is the game that set the tone of what was to become the success of every Persona game to follow it and is still thought of today as one of the best JRPGs of the 2000s. You play as a character that attends a modern Japanese high school during the day whilst exploring Tartarus in the evening, a uniquely modern take on Greek god games. Tartarus was a location in Greek mythology, described as the deep abyss used for the torment and suffering of the wicked, and the prison for the Titans.

Okhlos is a one-of-a-kind battle game, and can even see you wielding the power of iconic Grecian figures such as the hero Heracles, Pandora, and even Socrates.

Age of Mythology doesn't deal exclusively with Greek mythology, but the Greek Gods and their champions are front-and-center throughout the game. This RTS classic lets you take on the role of a god of Greece, Egypt, or Scandinavia. Each culture has their own units, buildings, and play style, and the your choice of which god within the pantheon to play further customizes their faction.

If you like Age of Empires but wish it had more cyclops running around, Age of Mythology could be the game for you. The Extended Edition includes both expansions, which not only add the Chinese pantheon but also the Atlanteans — servants of the Greek Titans — to further steep the game in Hellenic lore. This is the closest game there is to a bonafide 'Greek god game,' so if you're hoping to toss lightning bolts as Zeus, it's a perfect pick.

Immortals Fenyx Rising is a new take on Ancient Greek lore, as you play as Fenyx, a newly recruited winged Demigod on a quest to not destroy the Greek gods, but save them! There is also the DLC 'The Lost Gods' which sees you play as the mortal hero Ash, who ventures to the Pyrite islands in order to locate the missing gods.

This is a grand open-world Greek myth adventure game brought to life, giving you the ability to wield the powers of heroes and gods alike from Achilles Sword to Daedalus' wings to battle monsters such as the Cyclops, Cerberus, and Gorgons, as well as encountering rare mythological creatures such as Griffins.

2 God Of War

The God of War series has recently seen lore-based within Norse mythology. However, the series began its journey in Ancient Greece following the story of protagonist Kratos. It's one of the oldest Greek mythology games available aside from Kid Icarus.

Kratos was a war general forced to kill his wife and daughter unknowingly under Ares' command. After exacting revenge on Ares and ascending to godhood himself, he then goes on to seek revenge against the Olympians, Titans, and his own father for their betrayal. God of War is based in an alternate 495 BC Greece, and as well as gods and beasts also feature critical moments from Grecian tales such as Heracles' 12 Labors, Jason and the Argonauts, and the sinking of Atlantis.

God of War got a direct continuation/soft reboot on the PS4/PS5 which takes the action in a distinctively more Norse-ward direction, but the sequel series still hasn't forgotten Kratos' Greek roots, with his infamous actions in Greece still haunting him in his new home. This is especially true in the free DLC epilogue for God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla, where he faces his past in a more direct manner than just recalling stories and seeing visions.

Hades is a new take on the Grecian theme, seeing you hack and slash your way through the underworld to break free of Hades' grip. Zagreus is helped on his journey by the Olympians, who grant him an assortment of powerful boons that help you take on the Underworld's monsters, courtesy of gods such as Zeus, Athena, and Hade's wife and Zagreus' own mother, Persephone. The story and gameplay make Hades not only the best Greek mythology game around, but one of the best games in recent years, period.
