Some call Avengers: Endgame the most ambitious crossover in history, but some would never have foreseen a crossover between Call of Duty and Tamagotchi. Modern Warfare will introduce us to its Tamagunchi, a wearable digital pet that will thrive alongside you as you shoot your way to victory and parenthood. Infinity Ward may have already introduced the cross-play feature, getting the collective gaming world hyped, but Tamagunchi might just take the trophy as one of the most intriguing new features.

The Tamagotchi made its worldwide debut in 1996. Created in Japan by Akihiro Yokoi, it has become a worldwide hit, selling more than 80 million units since its debut. The allure of a little digital pet, whose life depends on their owners, was alluring to people everywhere, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare looks to capitalize on that with their own Tamagotchi inspired feature - The Tamagunchi.

Tamagunchi will be featured on the player's wristwatch during the game in multiplayer and co-op Spec Ops game modes. Your digital pet will thrive during your killstreaks, growing as you dominate your multi-player matches. It won't be happy if you are doing bad and there is a possibility that your Tamagunchi could die if you play poor enough. This might be a tad depressing, but it is a pretty fun feature that could provide an incentive to continue to try your best in every match.

Of course, players won't be required to equip a Tamagunchi at all. It could be a possible distraction for the hardcore players that want to focus strictly on the game at hand. For those who want some levity in their Call of Duty game, though, something that is sometimes needed in the heat of battle and heavy story beats of the campaign, the Tamagunchi can be a neat way to provide that.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is looking to be one of the more immersive entries in the franchise in recent years. The most noteworthy aspect of this installment is that it is returning to the modern-day setting, which has long-time fans and new gamers excited for the future of the franchise. The implementation of a Tamagotchi-inspired addition known as a Tamagunchi is just another thing to be happy about.
