Call of Duty has been a mainstay of gaming since it's first release in 2003. The franchise was a pioneer among FPS games and helped solidify one of the biggest genres in the history of gaming. Call of Duty has had its ups and downs over the years, though, but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare looks to be a title reboot that helps drive the franchise back into its former glory. You would think that the franchise would look to appeal to the widest group of people as possible, so why isn't Call of Duty on the Nintendo Switch?

Since the release of the Switch, the Nintendo console has been home to numerous popular ports. Games that have appealed to fans throughout the years on other consoles have made their way to the versatile Nintendo Switch with great success. It's easy to see the appeal that a Call of Duty port could have to Nintendo's fan base.

While not the most impressive hardware for consoles, the Switch is capable of running games such as Doom, The Witcher 3 and Overwatch. It doesn't perform at the highest possible settings like a PC, Xbox, or PlayStation would, but the Switch promises portability which gives massive appeal to these types of ports.

Playing Overwatch or The Witcher 3 on the go is an irresistible concept. Who wouldn't want to play some Team Deathmatch on the go? There is a market for portable multi-player shooting games. The release of Fortnite for the Switch has proven to be remarkably successful and the massive battle royal game for the console has only added to the games popularity overall.

Nintendo and Call of Duty have a history of working together to bring the franchise to their consoles. Titles such as World at War and Modern Warfare 3 found some success on the Wii and even some of the games went mobile on the Nintendo DS. With the franchise coming to Nintendo Consoles before, it leads to question why they haven't made the leap to the Switch yet.

Nintendo could port over classic CoD games such as Modern Warfare 2 or Black-Ops to great success. It would be neat to play the campaigns for those games on the Switch, but if they wanted to just dedicate the Switch to playing multi-player for CoD, that would be enjoyable as well. Portable multi-player FPS games could continue to change the game for Nintendo.

Call of Duty has a generational appeal to it that could benefit the Nintendo Switch if they ever decide to bring the franchise to the console. Switch fans and fans of Call of Duty in general would be eager to be able to take their favorite games (or newest game) on the go with them, being able to play a round of Search & Destroy while waiting in line or sitting on a plane.

There are more upsides to bringing the franchise to the Nintendo Switch than there are negatives. It would help drive more traffic to the console while also adding an already impressive list of ports that the Switch has to offer. Classic games can be revisited and new games can be included. All this just to say: why isn't Call of Duty on the Nintendo Switch?
