Deep Rock Galactic is a phenomenal co-op experience. You and up to three friends take on the roles of employees of the Deep Rock Galactic mining corporation. You are all contracted to collect resources from the treacherous caverns of Hoxxes IV. Aside from sudden drops and twisting tunnels, your group of intrepid miners will have to contend with swarms of Glyphids, insect-like creatures that vary depending on what biome you're currently visiting.

A single Glyphid is not a threat, but wave after wave of them can prove quite hazardous. Plus, variations of Glyphid types will keep you on your toes as some will be able to spew acid at you while others can explode in a blaze of glory. Read on to learn the various types of Glyphids you and your friends will encounter while having one heck of a good time playing Deep Rock Galactic.

9 Glyphid Spawn

Deep Rock Galactic Glyphid Spawn

Glyphid Spawn are even tinier versions of the Glyphid Swarmer. They have little to no defense and can be eliminated with a swing of your pickaxe. However, these small creatures are found by a Brood Nexus, and it can be rather chilling to see a flood of spider-like terrors crawling towards you from them. "Spawn" is the appropriate term for them as they look like baby versions of other Glyphids you have seen and they tend to be spawned in staggering numbers.

8 Glyphid Swarmer

Deep Rock Galactic Glyphid Swarmers

Glyphid Swarmers are a fairly common enemy type you will encounter in various caverns, no matter which biome you are traversing. They are not heavily armored and are therefore very easy to bring down. However, they tend to attack you in numbers alongside other types of Glyphids. If you're not careful, Swarmers can bring you down when you least expect it. Don't neglect them; manage them in a timely fashion when they swarm upon you.

7 Glyphid Grunt

Glyphid Grunts are one of the most common Glyphid enemy types you'll see. They can put up a bit of a challenge depending on what variation you come across. Grunt Slashers will swipe at you, stunning your character and reducing their movement speed if the hit lands. Grunt Guards are defense-heavy, with extra protection on their front legs. However, with a solid team at your back, there should be nothing keeping you from demolishing Glyphid Grunts in a matter of seconds.

6 Glyphid Spitter

Every so often, when a group of Grunts attacks, you will see a bright color stand out among the more environmentally conscious colors of the horde. This indicates the presence of a Glyphid Spitter. The purple Spitters shoot webs at players, obscuring their vision and slowing them down.

Red Spitters shoot acid, which understandably causes a lot of damage to your character's health. It's not too much of a hassle to eliminate Spitters; you just have to find them first. They have a tendency to camp out on the ceiling and walls.

5 Glyphid Menace

Like a Spitter, the Glyphid Menace will camp out on a cave wall and shoot a rain of acid down on your unsuspecting dwarf. What makes a Menace more trouble than a Spitter is that as soon as they take any damage, they burrow into the wall, hide, then reappear in a different location to continue to sprinkle acid all over you. If a Menace is in your presence, it helps to be on the lookout for where it will emerge next after it goes into hiding.

4 Glyphid Warden

Glyphid Wardens are the ultimate support for the Glyphid species. They huddle next to their compatriots and emit some kind of pinkish aura that increases the defense of select Glyphids. That means that they are priority number one if you see them standing next to a horde. They will make your job of surviving a swarm a lot harder if you ignore them. Wardens won't go out of their way to harm you and your friends, but they sure do know how to bolster the defense of the Glyphids who will.

3 Glyphid Praetorian

Deep Rock Galactic Glyphid Praetorian

Glyphid Praetorians will frequently make an appearance when a swarm attacks. They will ponderoursly march forward with a horde of Glyphid Grunts at their feet to keep you occupied. Though their attacks are strong and they look like an imposing challenge, the trick with dealing with Praetorians is to circle around behind them and shoot their glowing abdomens. This is their weak spot, and though they try to hide it, a team of dedicated miners can dispatch a Praetorian in this manner.

2 Glyphid Exploder And Detonator

Deep Rock Galactic Glyphid Detonator

What's more dangerous than your average Glyphid monstrosity? How about one that explodes? Both the Glyphid Exploder and the Glyphid Detonator have a tendency to crawl right up next to you and then explode in a catastrophic sphere of damage. The Exploder is Grunt-sized, but the Detonator is about the size of a Praetorian. When a Detonator goes off next to you, there is a strong probability that your miner is going down. The Glyphid Crassus Detonator explodes in a shower of gold, which is some consolation for your group if you come across one.

1 Glyphid Dreadnoughts

Glyphid Dreadnoughts are true boss fights in Deep Rock Galactic. They function very much like Praetorians, but even their weak abdomens have to be peppered with bullets before any real damage can be done to their health. Both the Dreadnought Twins and Hiveguard are variations of the base Glyphid Dreadnought. If you come up against one of these, know that you are in for a fight. Bringing down a Dreadnought is best done with friends as you will be able to have people around to distract it and others to get behind and shoot it where its vulnerable.
