Dungeons & Dragons and Pop Tarts might seem like a nonsensical crossover, but the powers that be made it work. It all comes together thanks to a new book, a witch, and one particular D&D spell.

D&D fans are currently celebrating the release of the latest book, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. The tome is full of new options that give players unprecedented freedom in character creation. It's also written from the perspective of Tasha, the Witch Queen and inventor of several D&D spells. Her most famous is Tasha's Hideous Laughter.

Here's where someone in marketing got creative. D&D spells often require ingredients called components. As you can see, Tasha's Hideous Laughter demands the user have "tiny tarts and a feather that is waved in the air." Pop Tarts are probably not what the witch queen had in mind, but why let semantics get in the way of a good advertising push?

So it is that D&D publisher Wizards of the Coast and Pop Tarts teamed up to make a special edition of berry-flavored tarts. They're "Goodberry" flavor, a reference to another D&D spell that produces HP-restoring berries. TheGamer was sent a free box to see it up close. We were also sent a feather in order to have all the proper components to cast Tasha's Hideous Laughter.

...Too bad I trained as a games writer and not a wizard. Oh well, at least I have breakfast for the next few days.
