Boxing fans have been without a notable franchise for almost a decade since EA Sports' Fight Night Champion released all the way back in 2011. Since then, EA has ignored the calls of boxing fans to bring back the popular fighting series, with the company's focus being on the UFC series. Boxing fans faced more disappointment when Floyd Mayweather's reported video game didn't show any progress.

But finally, UK-based gaming developer Steel City Interactive has stepped in and already acquired the licenses to a number of boxers set to feature in the first edition of eSports Boxing Club. The long wait for a modern boxing game may finally be over for fans who prefer the square ring over the octagon.

10 Oleksandr Usyk

Oleksandr Usyk eSports Boxing Club

Unbeaten Ukrainian heavyweight Oleksandr Usyk is one of the most exciting additions to eSports boxing club with flawless skill and technique in the ring. The Ukrainian could be one of the most rounded current boxers available with cruiserweight speed which should make him a popular choice during online matches. While not being one of the heaviest punchers at heavyweight, Usyk's skill advantage should mean plenty of significant strikes landed which will eventually wear any fighter down.

9 Amir Khan

Amir Khan eSports Boxing Club

An Olympic silver medalist at the age of 17, Amir Khan will be one of the fastest fighters in the game with the fighter able to throw lightning combinations to go with an aggressive style on the front-foot. Of course, Khan's style hasn't always been the best form of defense with the UK boxer suffering a number of knockouts, but it's a style that fans appreciate over a cautious approach. 'King Khan' will undoubtedly be one of the most enjoyable fighters to use online in player vs player (PvP) matches.

8 Roy Jones Jr

A total of 66 wins from 75 fights shows the type of caliber that the British gaming company is looking to acquire to feature in the game which suggests there could soon be more exciting fighters announced.

7 Joe Frazier

Joe Frazier eSports Boxing Club

Smokin' Joe Frazier is one of America's greatest boxers of all-time with only legends of the sport in Muhammad Ali and George Foreman able to defeat the man from South Carolina. Whether eSports Boxing Club will give fans an opportunity to play out the famous 'Rumble in the Jungle' will depend on whether Steel City Gaming is able to get a licensed version of Ali into the game. As it stands, Frazier could be the highest-rated fighter from the roster set so far.

6 Terence Crawford

Terence Crawford eSports Boxing Club

Multiweight world champion Terence Crawford has coasted to a record of 37 wins with no defeats. The southpaw has proven to be an awkward counter-puncher who can quickly finish a fight after landing a big shot.  Crawford looked a class above his last opponent and former world champion Kell Brook and could have one of the highest boxing IQs of any fighter set to be included in the roster of eSports Boxing Club.

5 Jorge Linares

Jorge Linares eSports Boxing Club

The Venezuelan dominated the lightweight ranks before suffering defeat against Ukrainian opponent Vasily Lomachenko and will be one of the best lightweights to use in eSports Boxing Club. Linares possesses great speed and technical ability built from an amateur career spanning through 94 bouts and 89 wins.

It's important in any boxing game to obtain the balance between technical boxers and out-and-out brawlers to create a realistic user experience in-game. The confirmation of Jorge Linares shows eSports Boxing Club intends to include as many styles as possible - and styles make fights.

4 Alexander Povetkin

Despite being 41-years-old, Russian fighter Alexander Povetkin proved the knockout power is still there after a shock win over Dillian Whyte last time out.

Fans using Povetkin will be smart counter-punches looking to send their opponents to the canvas with the Russian boxer's deadly right hand that can knock out even those with the reach and height advantage.

3 Sugar Ray Robinson

Not many boxers surpass 100 professional bouts and doctors certainly wouldn't recommend the 199 which Sugar Ray Robinson took part in. This one could be one for the boxing historians with Robinson's career as a pro spanning from 1949 to 1965, but the inclusion of one of the oldest names in the sport shows eSports Boxing Club is committed to creating a game that all boxing fans can enjoy — even those that typically wouldn't play video games.

2 Joe Joyce

Joe Joyce eSports Boxing Club

Boxing fans couldn't figure out whether Joe Joyce's unbeaten start to his career was anything to praise until a dominant display against Daniel Dubois showed the 6 ft 6 London fighter is for real. The English fighter's style is reminiscent of Wladimir Klitschko with few combinations but a very effective jab and 1-2 from an orthodox stance. Not one for the entertainers, but for many eSports Boxing Club fans, it's all about getting the W.

1 Frank Bruno

Frank Bruno eSports Boxing Club

Legendary fighter Frank Bruno is set to feature in the upcoming boxing title and will no doubt be one of the heaviest punchers in the game. Bruno's brawler style resulted in 38 knockouts from 40 overall wins — but could also have cost two defeats in matches against Mike Tyson who was rumored to be bringing out his own boxing game in 2020.

While it would be exciting to play out multiple fights between Bruno and Tyson, Iron Mike currently features in EA Sports' UFC franchise which likely rules out the possibility of Steel City Interactive acquiring an official license. An option to create custom fighters could be a way to get around this problem though.
