In Forspoken, there are lots of ways to level up and get stronger. Beating up enemies gets you experience, collecting mana lets you unlock new spells, and exploring the world will net you new equipment and abilities. One great way to become stronger is by taking on Flashback challenges. These are accessed through the Monuments of Wisdom that you'll certainly have seen littered around Athia.

Junoon has five different Flashbacks to experience, and they're some of the hardest in the entire game. If you want to attain the highest scores, you'll need skill, high stats, and a whole lot of patience.

Forspoken Junoon Flashback - targeting the Bandersnatch

The boss in this fight is the Bandersnatch Simulacrum. This monstrous beast is a tricky foe - it has wide-reaching attacks and summons huge hordes of lesser Nightmares, specifically Riven Wings and Riven Carcasses, that make every inch of the battlefield dangerous.

The key to this fight is ignoring the lesser Nightmares and focusing on the boss, using Olas's Magic to whittle it down bit by bit. Pulse Dart is your best bet for single-target damage, though Storm Dart can work if there are simply too many Riven Carcasses to navigate. Don't attempt to use other magic types - Olas's Magic is simply the best for both range and damage and is your only hope of the topmost scores.

It's important to stay on the move at all times. The boss and the Riven Wings have laser attacks that will destroy your health bar incredibly quickly - never stop Flowing for more than a few seconds if you can help it.

Forspoken Junoon Flashback - kelaino

Waves:

  1. The first wave is in the fort ahead of you, and consists of a ton of Breakzombie and Varanus Simulacrums.
  2. Once you beat the first wave, some Kelaino Simulacrums will enter the fort.
  3. Head further into the fort from the direction the Kelaino came to find a large horde of Boggart Simulacrums.
  4. The final wave is in the next section of the fort, consisting of three Goliath Simulacrums and a handful of Breakzombie Simulacrums.

The individual fights in this challenge aren't too tough to deal with, but this flashback has a very set of score requirements. If you're looking for the best rewards, you're going to need to be consistent in both your efficiency and your evasion. Use the weaker enemies (Breakzombies, Kelaino, Boggarts) to build a score multiplier before eliminating the more high-value targets (Varanus, Goliaths).

Use Sila's Magic to deal with the first two waves. A good tip for dealing with the Varanus is to section of a part of the battlefield with Crucible and then throw Blast Slices through the wall of fire at locked-on Varanus. This should give you plenty of time and space to avoid their poison attacks.

The Boggarts fall very quickly to Fan Bolt, and you can usually take out a good few of them at a time with it.

The final wave is the hardest, as it's important not to get hit. The key to this is not getting greedy - don't charge a spell longer than you need to, and try to take out each Goliath at a time. Trying to use Storm Dart, for example, leaves you too open to attacks.

The Wolfwoods Flashback Challenge - Monsters' Lair

Forspoken Junoon Flashback - Spell Selection

This challenge involves defeating a lot of enemies, including a trio of very tough Ogres.

Forspoken Junoon Flashback - Ogre

Rather than defending one spot, you'll have to travel to each wave of enemies.

Waves:

  1. Two Ogre Simulacrums on the island just ahead.
  2. More Ogre Simulacrums and a group of Varanus Simulacrums on land, further ahead.
  3. More Ogre Simulacrums and some Kelaino Simulacrums will rush toward the location of the last wave.
  4. More Ogre, Kelaino, and Varanus Simulacrums on the cliff above the last wave.
  5. Halfway through the previous wave, a horde of Boggart Simulacrums will spawn.

Having a very high Green Magic stat and being able to take out Ogres without any fuss is the key to a high score in this challenge. Switch to Sila's Magic to deal with the Kelaino and Varanus, and then deal with the Ogres. When the Boggarts spawn during wave five, throw down a Prime and a Disperse to try and deal with them, and start using Storm Dart instead of Pulse Dart to take out any stragglers.

The biggest threat in this challenge is the huge number of projectiles flying around - it's very difficult not to get hit.

Physic Garden Flashback Challenge - Run The Gauntlet

Forspoken Junoon Flashback - Nightmare Race

This is the trickiest 'race' challenge in the game thanks to the platforming you'll have to do. Make sure you have a good handle on how Scale and Float work, and make sure they're both enhanced before you take this challenge on.

Forspoken Junoon Flashback - Nightmare Race Riven Wing

The route and enemies for this challenge are pretty simple, the complications come from the fact that you're running through a Breakstorm, so your vision is severely limited. There are some things you can do to help with this:

  • Take it a bit slower than you normally would. You can still reach the highest score threshold while keeping a somewhat leisurely pace.
  • Use Cuff Search to see the shape of the islands around you - the golden wave emanating from you should act as a sort of sonar.
  • The islands you're hopping in this race are right next to the Monument of Wisdom used to start it. You can practice in the daylight to get your timings and positioning down.

The enemies here are all Riven Wings and Riven Carcasses, so you can make do with just your regular Frey's Magic shots. Just make sure you're looking around you when you're up against Riven Wings, as they love to teleport.

Don't fall off! You'll have to start the challenge all over again.

Crosstide Coast Flashback Challenge - The Last Stand

Forspoken Junoon Flashback - Protect townspeople

This is possibly the hardest Flashback to contend with in the game - no other task or challenge in the game pits you against the sheer volume of enemies that you have to face in this one.

Forspoken Junoon Flashback - Crucible

This challenge is incredibly chaotic. The waves coming from the valley ahead of you are almost non-stop and you'll also have to be wary of flocks of flying enemies coming from behind the townspeople, too. This flashback will put your offense, evasion, and multi-tasking skills to work.

Firstly, you'll need to employ every trick you have to keep the attention on you - the enemies will run right past you, and this is very problematic when they come in such large hordes and are very fast. Support Spells like Disperse, Prime, Crucible, Aggression, and Compulsion can all be used to control various areas of the battlefield. Cast them as soon as they recharge.

The key to getting a high score in this challenge requires that you do something that you won't have done much in challenges past - ignore weaknesses. The best spell in the game for dealing with lots of enemies is Storm Dart - it has a huge area, staggers foes easily, and deals a lot of damage even if the targets aren't marked by a dart. In addition, when charging the spell regularly, it'll deal a pulse of damage for each level charged, which is a good distraction technique. As a plus, Ogres are weak to it, and Ogres are the toughest enemies to deal with.

The strategy is to boost your Green Magic as high as it'll go - preferably to the max - and use Storm Dart. The only enemies it cannot reliably deal with are the flying ones, but they aren't very common in this challenge and you have Disperse to deal with them.

You'll still need to keep paying attention to your evasion and try to build solid combos if you want to hit the highest scores, but Storm Dart will simplify the process greatly.
