After Kratos killed all the Greek Gods, he moved on to Norse Mythology. The 2018 God of War follows Kratos and his son, Atreus, on a journey to the highest peak in the nine realms. Even though Kratos is working on anger management, he still gets into tons of fights. He can kill most foes with his bare fists but weapons make him even more powerful.
Kratos only wields two weapons in the newest game but he does encounter many weapons on his journey. Enemies use unique and powerful weapons throughout the game. Some weapons are never used but have a rich history of killing. Hopefully, we can see the full power of more weapons in the inevitable sequel.

As a result, an entirely new group of gamers will get their first chance to experience the journey Kratos and Atreus go through. These players will get to discover many of the extremely powerful weapons featured in both the game and this list.
12 Jormungandr
Now, it may seem odd to recognize a living creature as a weapon, but Jormungandr is called the World Snake, and any creature that large is indeed a weapon. It's a sentient being with its thoughts, morals, and personality, but that doesn't mean it can't use its gigantic body to obtain its own desires. There are theories that Jormungandr is a future form of Kratos due to its resemblance to the game's main character, but that's more theory than fact.
11 Baldur's Invulnerability
Baldur serves as Kratos' primary antagonist in 2018's God of War, and a big reason he can stand toe-to-toe with the God-killer is that Baldur was gifted invulnerability from his mother, Freya. Most people think of weapons as objects that induce physical pain or damage, but some weapons come in the form of advantages that may not be visually identifiable. For Baldur, his invulnerability was arguably the strongest asset anyone had in the entirety of the game.
10 Traveler's Broadsword
These enemies are few in number but they offer some of the toughest fights in the game disregarding boss fights. The main reason for their strength is the massive broadsword, which can cause severe damage in a few hits. It's a bulky weapon but Travelers are strong enough to swing it effectively. The sword can be embued with elements such as ice. If the Traveler can charge up for long enough then the sword can create a whirlwind of elemental force. This attack is strong enough to harm anyone in its close proximity. It's definitely a weapon worth fearing in the right hands.
9 Talon Bow
The Talon bow is the favorite weapon of Atreus. It's mostly used as back up while Kratos gets the big hits in. That being said, it still has some extremely powerful capabilities, especially after being upgraded. It has different arrow types such as electricity, explosives, and light. These are not too deadly in combat but the bow can grow powerful with its runic summons. Some of these include a stampede of boars, a diving falcon, and a murder of crows. The bow can be a powerful weapon if used correctly but is more prosperous in strategic combat.
8 Mattugr Helson's Club
This massive troll is the gatekeeper of Hades. He wields a massive club that can be slammed into the ground and used as a battering ram. His club is similar to that of other creatures but this one emits blue light to strengthen its power. This light is used as a projectile as well. It leaves behind blue orbs that follow their enemy until they explode. The club can also be slammed into the ground to create waves of elemental power. This club is a worthy weapon for the gatekeeper of Hades. Too bad he ran into Kratos.
7 Cyclonic Blade
This is the blade Magni uses during the Magni and Modi boss fight. It channels Magni's electricity and thunder making it an extremely powerful weapon for the demigod. If Magni can land a hit then electricity will surge through his opponent. More impressively if it makes contact with his half brother's shield then it will emit a blinding light. This leaves his opponents vulnerable to attacks. The blade is powerful on its own but is enhanced when used in combination with Modi's mace and shield. The weapon is impressive but pales in comparison to the other magical weapons farther down the list.
6 Valkyrie Wings
The Valkyries are the toughest enemies in the game. Their main weapon is their wings, which are fast and powerful. Every Valkyrie uses their wings in a slightly different way but all of them are a pain to deal with. They can thrust forward in a stabbing motion to cause massive damage or spin around to get several consecutive hits in.
Sometimes the wings can shoot sharp features like daggers. They can also be used to elevate movement and evades. This is not a traditional weapon but they are almost impossible to deal with. Anything that can make Kratos stagger is a worthy weapon in our book.
5 Leviathan Axe
This is the standard weapon of God of War 4, and it's a good one. The axe is versatile with strong, quick and ranged attacks. It can be infused with several elemental powers. The most powerful being the summoning of a huge whirlwind or lightning strikes. Its best quality is the ability to return to the user's hand after being thrown. It can be be used as a projectile if the user's aim is accurate. This truly is one of the best weapons in the game, which means the next weapons are on a whole different scale.
4 Blades Of Chaos
The history of these blades is evidence enough to put them above the leviathan ax. They have killed more gods then you can count. Kratos should be extremely lucky to have them as his signature weapons. They are super quick and super strong and any enemy would find them difficult to escape. Their ability to extend via chains makes them applicable to any combat situation. They can be swung around in a whirlwind or slammed into the ground. Lastly, their emission of fire adds to the already deadly weapons.
3 Mjolnir
It was tough to put Mjolnir above the Blades of Chaos. We never got to see it in action during God of War so the legends have to speak. Thor used Mjolnir to kill all of the giants, which was no doubt a difficult task. Mjolnir also increases Thor's ability to control electricity, rain, wind, and thunder. It may be the only weapon that can take on Kratos and his blades of chaos. Hopefully, we will get to see how powerful it is when the sequel is released. Until then, the legends speak for themselves.
2 Honorable Mention: Svartaljqfurr's Staff
Svartaljqfurr, otherwise known as the Dark Elf King, is the boss fight during the Light of Alfheim mission. His staff is fast and powerful. It can hit opponents from a long distance while keeping its wielder safe. What makes it special though, is its ability to conjure up a powerful and blinding light.
It can shoot three beams at once that explode on impact and unleash a devastating burst of light. It's a powerful weapon but Svartaljqfurr's staff does not even compare to some later entries on the list. It gets some credit for making an early boss fight somewhat difficult for Kratos.
1 Surtr's Sword
Surtr's sword can be found lodged into the ground of Muspelheim. It was forged by Surtr himself, the fire giant. It has the ability to destroy all of Asgard in one swoop. No other weapon can stand against its power. Surtr will use it during Ragnorak, which begins the complete destruction of the nine realms. Kratos saw signs of the legendary Ragnorak at the end of God of War. The sequel will delve into this prophecy and we may finally see this powerful weapon in action. Right now, it's safe to say that Surtr's sword is the most powerful weapon in God of War 4.
