Cheat codes have come a long way since their inception decades ago, and no finer example displays just how a cheat code can deliver really fun gameplay than the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Since the original Grand Theft Auto, cheat codes have been integral to the gameplay and the augmentation of the gameplay a player can experience.

For those looking to cause unbridled mischief and mayhem in the fictitious world of San Andreas, here are the cheats you need to try in GTA 5. Just remember, using any of the cheats listed below temporarily disables achievements while the cheat is active.

Updated October 16, 2023 by David Kinder: Rockstar has added a few cheat codes in Grand Theft Auto 5 over the years. Most of these cheats were very minor, but they're much-welcomed additions. Being able to call in a vehicle you spent hours unlocking is really appreciated. There were also a handful of cheats missing that we felt would be really useful for anyone wanting less destructive options for free roam. You won't be outmaneuvering a jet in a Dodo or Stunt plane, but you'll have a great time flying over San Andreas. For some people, there's always a little more to discover in this decade-old classic.

20 Run Faster

First things first, this running cheat isn't like the one in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. You won't be running like the Flash and blitzing through the map in a matter of minutes. It's a rather disappointing cheat compared to the more elaborate ones that give you invincibility.

However, it's a fun, gimmicky cheat that doesn't cause too many problems when you use it. The increased speed does look pretty awkward on the player models. If you want a less underwhelming experience, you should consider modding your game for more flexibility.

19 Black Cellphones

• Phone: 1-999-367-3767 [1-999-EMPEROR or 1-999-EMP-DROP]

The Black Cellphone code is really mundane. Once activated, a small explosion occurs above you, and your cell phone gets a black-and-white color scheme. Oddly enough, the game doesn't register this code as a cheat. So, if you enter it on your phone, achievements won't be disabled.

And that's all the code does. If you want your phone to go back to normal, re-enter the code. Another explosion will occur, and its color scheme is back to how it should've been.

18 Moon Gravity

Do you want a bounce house experience? Well, all you need to do is enter the Moon Gravity cheat to get started. The cheat affects the gravity of objects and yourself. It's much easier to make things drift and travel farther than originally possible.

Press jump while on foot or sprinting to experience euphoric weightlessness. Drive a vehicle to take full advantage of the reduced gravity. Stunt jumps will be even more entertaining. Be careful with grenades because they're also affected by reduced gravity. It'd be a real shame to get taken out by that oversight.

17 Raise Wanted Level

Are you tired of traveling around? Instead of struggling to get a manhunt started, use the increased wanted level cheat for some instant action. It progressively increases with each use.

If you need a refresher, you need to have at least two stars for more aggressive police interactions. Three, four, and five-star levels widen the range of tactics, employing NOOSE, police choppers, and military intervention. At those levels, it becomes a fight for your own survival. You might as well go for an achievement while you're at it.

16 Max Health And Armor

If you find yourself up against the full might of the Los Santos Police Department or even the FIB, this cheat might help you survive the onslaught of the boys in blue. "TURTLE" gives you maximum health and armor whenever activated, so use it as much as you need.

It's a cheat with many utilitarian purposes. Pop it off at the last moment to save yourself from a fall or when your vehicle is about to explode. The max health and armor cheat is the perfect way to top yourself off during gun battles or as you prepare for one.

Getting all the way to the top of the map to skydive is tedious. Let's just skip all the busy work and use the Skyfall cheat. You're immediately launched to the skybox, allowing you to free dive to your heart's content. The best part is you can do it all over again.

However, make sure you activate the parachute cheat. Otherwise, you won't survive the experience. It's admittedly unusual that the Skyfall cheat doesn't also include a parachute.

14 Drunk Mode

Simulating what it would be like to be intoxicated, the drunk mode cheat gives the player all the symptoms of being inebriated – dizziness, falling over, general clumsiness and stumbling, and poor aim – without ever having touched a drop of drink.

While this may not benefit the player in any way like the previous cheats may, it is just plain fun – and really, what are video games about if it isn’t about having fun? If you get motion sickness, you should consider skipping this cheat.

13 Spawn A Dodo Seaplane

You won't be able to use this cheat immediately. You actually have to unlock it by completing a random encounter while roaming as Trevor. Travel southeast of Trevor's Hanger to the coast and look for the cove hidden in the small notch of the map. After you deal with some enemies, fly off with the Dodo.

Once you're in the clear, you're done. Now, you can activate the cheat code wherever the game will let you. While the Dodo isn't the most amazing plane, it's great for simple trips across the landscape.

12 Spawn A Stunt Plane

Stunt Planes aren't weapons of mass destruction, but they're great for cross-country shenanigans. If you don't feel like going to an airport to get one or maybe just want a plane right there and now, use the cheat to get yourself a reliable plane. A stunt plane may seem impractical, but they're fast and nimble enough to pull off dangerous maneuvers.

While you can't unlock stunts while using cheats, you can give yourself ample practice. You can surprise yourself with how much you improve after a few sessions of mucking around.

11 Spawn Buzzard Attack Helicopter

Considered “the ultimate party starter,” the Buzzard Attack Helicopter is a light and maneuverable attack helicopter capable of firing missiles that lock onto vehicles, as well as dual machine guns – though both weapons cannot be fired at the same time.

The Buzzard is one of the fastest helicopters in GTA 5, even faster than some planes, making it a great vehicle to have in your hangar to get from Point A to Point B, sightseeing opportunities, or rain destruction and mayhem at your enemies.

10 Lower Wanted Level

While there are various ways to reduce your player's visibility to the police in San Andreas, such as vehicular high-speed pursuits, changing your appearance, or even hiding in bushes, all of these tactics take time and run the risk of the police pursuers spotting your character and resetting the pursuit.

To evade your pursuers more efficiently and resume your misdemeanor activities, use the cheat to reduce your wanted level to a more manageable state. Each input of the cheat will reduce your wanted level by one star.

9 Super Jump

Once you enter the code, press the jump button. By depressing the jump button longer, your jump will increase exponentially. Consider using the “Moon Gravity” cheat to give yourself the ultimate experience. While you won't be channeling your modern inner superhero, you can sure feel like the 1920s version of Superman.

Cheats To Become The Incredible Hulk

One of the most entertaining things to do during a cheat-fueled GTA 5 playthrough is to turn Michael and the gang into miniature versions of The Incredible Hulk. While there isn't a Hulk cheat code in GTA 5, there are certain cheats that can be activated to make a player feel like they're an indestructible force of nature.

Take to the streets with this cheat inspired by Need for Speed’s style of street racing. This cheat transforms your everyday commute into one that even the most seasoned driver will find difficult to manage. Consider it a test of your reflexes as you pull off drifts that make Initial D proud.

By inputting the “Slidey Cars” cheat, every road vehicle you drive becomes less controllable, as the roads in San Andreas turn into a very slippery and icy environment, making your car slide every which way – lending a sense of fun playability.

7 Spawn A Duke O'Death

Nice muscle cars can be quite hard to find in GTA 5's single-player. Online players definitely have better luck in that department. The Duke O' Death is an armored muscle car with supercharger. It's fast and tanky. What's not to love?

To unlock this cheat, you need to complete Tanya's Towing missions and then go to the gas station near Trevor's Hanger. The car will be sitting there unattended. Once you drive off, you'll need to clear out a few waves of angry drivers. They might be a bit of a challenge since you can't shoot through the windows.

6 Give Weapons And Ammo

When you're early in your run through GTA 5, weapons are hard to come by. You end up having to go through great pains to keep the scraps the game throws at you. If you want to skip the hassle, use this cheat. It equips your inventory with a reasonable arsenal.

However, it won't give you unlockable weapons. Once again, Rockstar found it amusing to create a quasi-restriction on cheats. On the upside, the cheat also gives you full ammunition, which means you’ll never run out of bullets.

5 Recharge Special Ability

The special abilities in GTA 5 are a blast to use, but the recharge can feel slow as heck and impede your options in a firefight. Use this cheat to give yourself an immediate refresh so you can keep doing what you like.

Franklin can slow down time while driving, giving him great maneuverability. Michael has “Bullet Time,” slowing time down to give him precision accuracy, gaining him an advantage during shootouts. Trevor enters what is known as “Rage” mode, which grants him near invulnerability and increased damage, allowing him to cause maximum mayhem.

This explosive cheat gives the player Falcon Punch-like powers, causing someone to literally explode when hit with a melee attack, causing instantaneous elimination. While this cheat packs a punch, it won’t allow you to punch through walls; it will blow up most vehicles with one hit.

As a word of caution, when melee attacking vehicles with this cheat equipped, the vehicle’s explosive damage will likely kill you as well. With that in mind, it's a great addition to your rampage arsenal. The explosive melee attack cheat gives the player a ludicrous Hulk-style superpower.

3 Bang Bang!

Able to turn even the measly pistol into a hand cannon, this cheat alters the in-game physics of your bullets into weapons of pure power. The “Bang Bang” cheat, much like the “Explosive Melee Attack” cheat, transforms your everyday arsenal into explosive tools of destruction, capable of stopping even a Rhino tank with a single bullet, well, maybe three bullets.

To experience the full effect of its devastating power, raise your wanted level to its maximum, employ the “Max Health and Armor,” “Give Weapons and Ammo,” and “Recharge Ability” cheats, pick Michael as your protagonist, and survive as long as you can.

Do you ever want to cruise down the Los Santos Freeway as the monotonous pitter-patter of rain is interrupted by the smooth sounds of jazz? Or what about performing your most daring heist under the blanket of fog? Maybe even perform the most daring stunt jumps while on the most perfect of days – with clear skies on the horizon and the shining sun gleaming off your hardtop.

The “Change Weather” cheat allows the player to cycle through nine different weather pattern types, from fog and rain to beautiful sunsets and sunrises, depending on whatever weather arrangement you prefer.

God Mode is invincibility. This cheat has taken on a few iterations along the way. This time around, the player is immune to all forms of damage for five minutes. Invincibility also lets you do some really cool things, like jumping out of planes without a parachute or unleashing complete and utter chaos without repercussions.

God Mode allows the player to experience the gameplay at a heightened level, immersing the gamer into the story and world without having to worry about their health bar. After all, bullets don’t mean a thing when they simply bounce off of you.
