The Legend of Zelda is a series focused on adventure and exploration. That's why Nintendo came up with such a convoluted timeline; they wanted to justify the need for entirely different games with completely different interpretations of the Hyrule Kingdom.

Each game is stuffed with locales, cities, and dungeons to traverse, each posing their own challenges as well as adding something new to the experience. Sometimes, you can just blow through these places and get on with the main story, and other times you like to see everything that it has to offer you.

This focus on exploration and many locations also prompted Nintendo to create many hidden areas. Sometimes, these places weren't intended to be found, and other times, it just takes a serious amount of work and observation skills to do it. The end result is that there are many hidden areas throughout the series that few people ever find. Some may never see them.

We've explored countless towns in the Zelda series and found just about everything there is to offer across its numerous games. If you're interested to see what we found, read on for 15 hidden locations you never found in The Legend of Zelda.

15 The Nicest Moblin In All The Land

via supergamefighter.blogspot.com

Secrets were incorporated into the Zelda games from the very beginning. Due to the difficult nature of the first game, there's no guarantee you would encounter everything that it had to offer. As a matter of fact, it would be possible that you would miss several things, and that includes the Secret Moblin room.

Moblins exist throughout the game and will try to kill Link, but one Moblin won't. Some rooms hidden around Hyrule hold a Moblin who actually gives Link Rupees and then begs him to keep it a secret. This has since been a line of dialogue repeated throughout the series, harkening back to the time when a monster actually helped out a hero.

Many people didn't know that you could buy a house in Breath of the Wild, but it goes much further beyond that. You can actually build an entire town. After you buy your house in Hateno Village, one of the workers will say that he's going to the East Necluda region. If you travel there, you'll find him once again in a circular landmass that juts out into a lake.

If you talk to him, he'll send you on a fetch quest to bring him some wood as well as find another helper. You'll have to do this a total of three different times, and it's not a short quest. Many people give up before they try, but once you complete it all, you're rewarded with a lot of money, a town to buy unique weapons, and a beautiful wedding cutscene.

13 Look At All Those Chickens!

via youtube.com (RubinNischara)

Cuccos are one of Link's worst enemies in the Zelda series. After you attack one of them enough, it will send a cry that calls all other Cuccos to action. They will then swarm and attack you until you escape or drop dead. This was the inspiration behind the Cucco Dash mini-game seen in A Link Between Worlds.

There are several levels to go through; each of them pits you against an army of Cuccos for a certain amount of time. Eventually, you will unlock endless mode. If you survive for a total of 999 seconds (around 15 minutes), then you'll see the Giant Cucco, which will throw out all sorts of hearts. It's not entirely sure what the function of this is, as so few people ever got there.

12 You Decide If This Dungeon Is Worth It

via youtube.com (codebreak)

On top of finding little islands to traverse, Wind Waker is home to a few mini dungeons. Two of them are required to traverse for story purposes, but one is completely optional. It exists south of Windfall Island and seems fairly normal. There's some grass out front and a rock in the middle. On the back side is a little hole that Link can crawl through to access the dungeon.

There's not much to note about in it, though, other than some Chuchus and a lot of Rupees to collect. There's a spot that you can only get to by blowing up a rock, but other than, it's nothing to write home about. You can get to it, or you can't. The choice is up to you.

11 Chris Houlihan Is Basically Famous Now, At Least

nuestroblog-zelda.blogspot.com
An Easter Egg in Zelda a Link to the past.

We've talked about the Chris Houlihan room several times in the past, but as one of the most notorious hidden locations in The Legend of Zelda, there was no way we wouldn't be able to include it here.

For those of you who don't know, the Chris Houlihan room was a placeholder for a glitch as well as named after a fan who won a contest. If you managed to trick the game (A Link To the Past) into being confused about which room you were going to, it would simply dump you into the Chris Houlihan room. For glitching the game, you receive about 40 Rupees for your trouble as well as a sign from Chris Houlihan himself.

10 Finding The Maze Is The Hard Part

via polygon.com

The massive world of Breath of the Wild is home to many different hidden locations, but one of the places you may have a hard time discovering are the labyrinths. There are three of these massive mazes scattered throughout Hyrule, and it will take no small amount of exploration to find them. It's pretty easy with a map, but if you're just going off your gut, you'll be challenged quite easily.

These labyrinths are even harder to traverse, hosting many twists and turns that make it difficult to ever make it to the end. It's hard enough to try and get through one, but to do all three is a task worth celebrating. If you're looking for all of the Shrines, you'll have to manage it.

9 Let's Hope You Have Good Night Vision

via wikia.com

Another one of the more interesting locations in Breath of the Wild is the Thyphlo Ruins. This strange place sits just above The Lost Woods, another place that's hard to traverse. The special thing about is that it's completely dark, but a shrine sits at its center. In order to get the Shrine, you'll have to find the sleeping Hinox, get the orb from him, and place it in a divot.

Keep in mind, that when I say completely dark, I mean you won't be able to see anything around you unless you have a torch or start throwing your bombs in every direction. It's not an easy task and getting to that Shrine is one of the hardest things to do in the game.

8 Getting In The House Is The Hard Part

via neogaf.com

Wind Waker was a step in the right direction in terms of crafting an open-world Zelda game. Allowing you to sail the high seas and fill in your map with each and every island was a satisfying journey through and through. As you might imagine, this waterlogged world held several secret locations for Link to drop his anchor at.

One of them was the Private Oasis. While it wasn't hard to find in and of itself, getting inside of the house was difficult. There was a butler there who wouldn't let anyone but the owner in. To get in, you had to get the deed, which involved doing several side quests, including the most epic game of hide and seek in the world.

7 These Grottos Sure Are Hidden

viz zeldadungeon.net

Ocarina of Time brought to light many mechanics that would become staples for the Zelda series. One of them was encouraging the player to explore every nook and cranny. Throughout the world, there were several little spots that could be broken with bombs or the Hammer. After that, you simply drop down into the hole to see what you got.

Each of these grottos would then contain some kind of special reward, but they were usually small and inconsequential. Still, many of us played through Ocarina of Time and never came across a single grotto. It's one of those things that you'll only see if you're looking for it. If you're too focused in the adventure itself, don't count on finding very many of these throughout your quest.

6 Can You Go Cliff Diving, Too?

via youtube.com (TheMaster 9000's Gaming)

Hold on for a moment. We're not saying that the Fishing Hole itself in Twilight Princess is a difficult spot to find. It's easy and it's part of the game. What is hard to get to is the cliff that circles the water. The reason for this is that you can't get up there through normal means.

You need to have several bombs on hand as well as know the Jump Strike ability (which is the sixth Hidden Skill in the game). You have to place a bomb and then time the Jump Strike at the right time so that the explosion hits you and propels you upward right as you jump in the air. When done correctly, you'll be on the cliff around the Fishing Hole. There's not much you can do there, but it's a neat trick that works in other areas in the game.

5 Really, What Was Supposed To Be There??

via zeldaskywardsword.be

Skyward Sword is one of the Zelda games that people love to hate. Regardless of where you stand on the issue, it holds one of the most fascinating hidden areas in the game- so hidden that it's impossible to access. You may be asking how we know it exists then, and that's because it's literally a spot on the map.

It's an entire wide room that's hidden behind the Goddess Statue in The Goddess's Silent Realm. However, you can't get to it without seriously glitching or hacking the game. This means that there will always be a massive blank spot on your map because you can't get to that particular area. It will peak our curiosity for years to come. We just want to know what was intended to be there.

4 This Fairy's Great At Hiding

via vg247.com

Breath of the Wild has several Great Fairies to find, and if you want to be able to max out your armor, you're going to have to find them all. Easily one of the most difficult ones to find is in the Gerudo Desert in the Southwest. This environment is already a big and difficult to navigate area, but to have to find a Great Fairy makes it even harder.

In the Gerudo Desert, there are many sandstorms that pop up and will block your map and radar, tethering you to that location. It also becomes difficult to see. Couple that with the fact that Link moves slower in the sand, and you could be searching for a while. Last but not least, you'll also have to deal with the vicious Moldugas before you can get anywhere near the Great Fairy.

3 Is That Jaws??

via zelda.gamepedia.com

Lake Hylia is a fascinating place for many reasons, but the biggest is that you'll likely come face to race with the Water Dungeon there. What most people don't explore is the Lakeside Laboratory, which is the home to many interesting creatures. As you walk around the facility, you may come across something that looks a little familiar and iconic.

One room shows a shark pressed up against the iron bars. Many people have pointed out that this is extremely similar to Jaws from the movie of the same name. Whether or not that was Nintendo's intention here, it's hard to ignore the similarities. That said, it is a bit difficult to be sure either way.

2 You Sure This Isn't Minecraft?

via youtube.com (Saria)

There are many strange islands throughout Wind Waker, but the one that might confuse you the most is the Angular Island. While you're sailing you may come across two islands that look like they belong in Minecraft rather than The Legend of Zelda. Once you get there, you're presented with a fairly difficult block puzzle to get to the top.

If you manage to make it all the way, you will then drop down a hole into a cave. At that point, you're presented with yet again, another block puzzle. You have to build a staircase essentially to get to the top, where a hidden treasure chest sits. It's not an easy puzzle and is one of the most tedious in the entire game.

1 The Most Magical Place In All Of Zelda

via polygon.com

Throughout your adventures in Breath of the Wild, you may notice that there is a strange light coming from one of the mountains. It raises a lot of questions, but unless you go there while the light glows, you won't find anything. That location is none other than Satori Mountain.

If you go there randomly, it's a beautiful spot, complete with gorgeous water and a lush cherry blossom tree. However, if you visit it while the light is glowing, you'll find a manner of amazing creatures. Whimsical rabbits and the legendary Lord of the Mountain creature itself all reside there, and it's a sight worth taking a screenshot of. It's one of the most amazing spots in Breath of the Wild and it's something everyone has to see for themselves.
