A popular indie game has been removed from Steam’s storefront for violation of the terms of service.

House Party is a popular sex/comedy game which features graphic nudity as part of its draw. While it launched without issue last month, since then its popularity has skyrocketed to the point where it drew multiple complaints about its use of pornographic elements, prompting Valve to take action.

While Steam has historically banned “pornography” and “adult or inappropriate content” from being included in games being sold, that didn’t seem to stop quite a few adult games from being featured on the platform - see HuniePop or Genital Jousting for examples. In a post on their blog, Eek Games writes, “I know there are many games with nudity, and there are also games with sex scenes as well, including really popular titles, so it’s all rather confusing.”

House Party is a game about, well, a house party. You attend the alcohol-fueled celebration without any particular goal in mind other than having a good time. To that end, you can do whatever you want: convince a girl to take her top off, blackmail a party-goer’s sister into parading around naked, get into fist fights with attendees, or just take your pants off and wave your junk around. It's that kind of party.

It's not all sex, drugs, and rock and roll. The game allows you to work through a few minigames, some helpful quests, and really get to know some of the other party-goers. House Party isn't so much a sex game as it is a raunchy comedy adventure, a la Leisure Suit Larry.

However, it does feature some anatomically correct models that seem to have angered a certain conservative segment of the gamer population. Eek Games confirm that Valve received a number of complaints regarding the game’s use of “pornography”, which prompted them to remove the game from their store. They did not remove the game from player’s libraries, nor did they prevent the developer from sending updates to those that had already purchased the game - they just aren’t allowing anyone else to buy it.

Eek went on to say they’re currently working on a censored version of the game that will abide by Steam Direct’s terms of service. They also will be creating a download that will modify the game back to its original, more graphic settings outside of Steam for those users that prefer the authentic experience.
