We're still a few months away from the release of Doom: Eternal, but TheGamer wanted to keep the hype-train rolling with a special stream of Doom 2016 and boy, that game is still as fun as ever.

Quite a few details for Eternal came out during QuakeCon last week, an annual free convention held every year in Dallas, Texas. With it being the 25th anniversary of Doom, this year's QuakeCon was dubbed the "Year of Doom" in celebration. Events included a special panel of developers re-playing the E3 demo of Eternal and breaking down the new mechanics coming to the game.

Over on TheGamer's Facebook page, we got to talking with the chat about some of these improvements while playing Doom 2016. The new dash mechanic, pole swinging, and hook shot will improve the already spectacularly fun mobility in Doom. While the new weak points and destructible weapons on enemies create a greater level of challenge in Eternal, something viewers expressed during the stream was missing from Doom 2016.

Other new features include the blood punch, a super melee ability that charges up over time. Once you've done enough melee finishers to fill the blood punch meter, the Doomslayer can unleash a shockwave punch that absolutely mulches all the demons around. Even without blood punch, we had an amazing time on stream charging down nasties and ripping them in half with Doom's signature finishers.

On stream we bounced around from beginning to end of the game, highlighting some of the more exciting enemies and environments available towards the final act, but according id Software Creative Director Hugo Martin, the first two levels of Doom: Eternal will offer more experiences than the entirety of Doom 2016. After revisiting Doom 2016 on stream today, it's hard to imagine how that can even be possible.

There was a lot more we talked about during the stream, but you'll have to watch the VOD (on TheGamer Facebook page) to catch up. I'll be streaming a new game every Thursday at 4:00PM EST/1:00PM PST and would love for you to come hang out and watch me blast some heads. If you follow the page, you'll even get a notification when the stream goes live. Hope to see you there!
