Machine Games and Bethesda, most well-known for the recent Wolfenstein titles, recently announced they are making a game based on the Indiana Jones film franchise. The legendary seriese has been out of the spotlight for some years, with the last major work being 2008's Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

A fifth movie is also in the pipeline for a tentative 2022 release date, so it is safe to say cinema's favorite archeologist is back. All we have to go on for the upcoming game is a small press release and tiny teaser trailer. Todd Howard will be producing the project and it is said to "be set at the height of the career of the famed adventurer." Other than that, all we have are wild dreams and wishes, ten of which are listed below.

10 Harrison Ford

There is a misunderstanding regarding Harrison Ford's classic characters. People seem to think he does not like reprising roles that made him a legend. However, he was as charismatic as ever in 2015's The Force Awakens and in interviews says he would jump at the chance to play Dr. Henry Jones once again. With the film happening simultaneously, it would also be the perfect time to cast him in the game, doing both voice and performance capture.

9 Other Actors From The Franchise

Each movie in the series is incredible and brimming with unique characters, though the fourth film admittedly polarized fans. Many of these actors are still working hard and we'd love to see them reprise their roles in the game.

While this is sadly an impossibility for the late Sean Connery, there is no reason the developer cannot get Karen Allen to provide her voice or John Rhys-Davies to light up the story as Sallah once again.

8 A Game Made For Fans

While any game wants to reach the largest possible audience, we hope whatever adventure Machine Games is cooking up feels like a love letter to fans who have been following the character since either the series' inception or their own childhood. Any fan born after 1981 has likely watched these films growing up. A game should similarly respect this, including many nods to the source material and even a story connected to already known characters and events.

7 Euphoria Physics

A cancelled Indiana Jones game from the PS3 and Xbox 360 era was set to utilize and advanced physics engine similar to what was prominently featured in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Grand Theft Auto's 4 and 5. Instead of simple rag doll physics, enemies more realistically react to the environment. Few games utilize this impressive tech, but it dramatically increases realism and really should be used in every title where it is possible.

6 Globetrotting

LEGO Indiana Jones The Original Adventures Indiana Jones and the Golden Statue

All Indiana Jones films except Temple of Doom take the character to many places all over the world. While there is something charming about an adventure taking place in a single environment, like the first Uncharted, we want to see a large variety of locations.

Especially since it will take place so far in the past, going to different cities all over the world will feel more special. Sometimes the architecture does not even exist anymore in the real world.

5 Multiplatform Release

Microsoft recently purchased Bethesda and all of its development studios for a jaw-dropping 7.5 billion dollars. The deal has yet to officially go through, and we have no idea what effect it will actually have on the gaming industry, but some worried the new game might release exclusively on Xbox platforms and PC. We sincerely hope this is not the case, since more platforms means more people able to enjoy what may end up being one of the best licensed titles around.

4 Focus On Single-Player

Wolfenstein: The New Order and its sequel, The New Colossus, are purely single-player affairs. A standalone, but smaller, game from 2019, Young Blood, has a cooperative multiplayer campaign with more open-ended environments and side quests. Hopefully the Indiana Jones game draws more from the first two titles mentioned, crafting a pure single-player adventure. Maybe multiplayer could come in somewhere, but the focus should be on great gameplay and narrative before thinking how it could work with more players either competitively or on a team.

3 Exploration And Discovery

While we want a single-player linear experience, this does not mean there should be no room for exploration. Certain Triple-A titles like The Last of Us Part 2 have shown how seamlessly open areas can integrate into linear, story-driven games. Having areas like this where the player explores and discovers secrets would not only feel good as a gameplay mechanic, but it would also stay true to the spirit of the series.

2 Third-Person Camera

While the Wolfenstein games are some of the best modern first-person shooters around, we want an Indiana Jones game to make us feel like the character. Constantly being in first-person would take something away from this. While we don't want an Uncharted clone either, a third-person camera would better suit the character and adventurous spirit of the franchise. If game does do go first-person, maybe Machine Games will prove us wrong and craft a truly incredible FPS starring Dr. Henry Jones.

1 In-Depth Melee Combat

While the character is no stranger to guns, many of the action scenes are hand to hand brawls. The character has a visceral, clumsy fighting style lacking any sort of grace, which makes the fighting scenes so memorable. Henry Jones takes a punch as good as he can give one. The game should similarly have a solid melee combat system reflecting this side of the action. Shooting should definitely be a part of it, but fist fights go hand in hand with the character.
