The era of the Nintendo Wii is finally coming to an end, as Just Dance 2020 will be the final game released for Nintendo's most popular home console.

The original Just Dance was a Nintendo Wii-exclusive that was released back in 2009 and featured songs from the likes of Blondie, Gorillaz, and the Spice Girls. The game was received harshly by critics, but was a huge commercial success and spawned a series of thirty mainline entries and spin-off titles. The Wiimote was necessary for the movements in the original Just Dance game, but the modern entries can use a smartphone app as a controller.

The Just Dance games have since been released on the Nintendo Wii alongside modern systems, but that is finally coming to an end. Daan Koopman is reporting on Twitter that he received an email from Ubisoft confirming that Just Dance 2020 would be the last entry in the series to be released for the Nintendo Wii.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that the Just Dance series lasted so long on the Nintendo Wii, even though it abandoned the Nintendo Wii U. The Nintendo Wii sold over one hundred million units around the world, making it Nintendo's best-selling home console and its second best-selling console of all time behind the Nintendo DS. It's not unusual to see games released for supposedly dead systems years after most people have moved on to different consoles. If there is a major sporting event (like the Olympics) or a family-friendly movie in cinemas (like a new Pixar film), then it's almost guaranteed that they will receive video game adaptations on as many systems as possible, including older ones.

The Nintendo Wii is often credited with bringing gaming to a much wider audience than before, as titles like Wii Sports attracted people old and young to video games. The success of the Nintendo Wii meant that it had a lot of incredible titles alongside a great deal of shovelware and it's a testament to its long-term appeal that it receives its final game as 2019 comes to a close.

Just Dance 2020 is due to be released for the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 5, 2020. The game will be available for Google Stadia in the future.
