The storytelling and cinematics of video games have now ascended to be on par with Hollywood films today, maybe even better. Whether it be an original innovation or an adaptation of a book, video game behemoths such as The Witcher 3 and Skyrim have enthralled us with their captivating questlines that seem to run as long as Game of Thrones' entire book series.

With quests that seem to drone on and on with no end in sight, these quests are ones which we definitely do not mind extending. From q uests that range from 30 minutes to an hour, these video game quests are indeed extensive, but well worth the journey of experiencing.

Updated on February 28, 2023, by Keitha Sims-Korba: What's more satisfying than conquering a lengthy questline? Especially when you've been playing for so long that you can see button prompts whenever you blink - you put in the time, and now you reap the rewards. Well, finding a new long questline to sink your teeth into is, possibly, more satisfying than finishing one. So, if you're itching to feel that sense of accomplishment again, we've found a few more questlines for you to enjoy.

12 Frostpunk - The Storm

the final storm hits the city in Frostpunk

The wind howls around the generator, the snow drifts onto every home, and the coal will run out. In Frostpunk, your main adversary is the cold - a chill deeper than anything you've ever experienced. It cannot be defeated, just endured. The final "main" quest of the game is weathering a massive storm that tests everything you've done and everything you've built.

Generally, this section can take an hour or two. Fast-forwarding does nothing to speed along the process - unless you're actively choosing to destroy your city, you have to be present and attentive. When you're ready to face the freeze, ensure you have the time for it.

11 Baldur's Gate 3 - Save The Refugees

Baldur's Gate 3 Staff at the ready facing off against goblin with a shield

True safety doesn't exist in Faerun, as the Tieflings of Baldur's Gate 3 know all too well. Nestled in the Druids' sanctuary, the Tieflings have found a shred of respite on their long, hard road. It can't last. Nothing good ever lasts. So, of course, this is where you come in.

While some of your party may moan and groan about being helpful, you can't turn your back on those in need. Besides, the goblins have information you need - so go ahead, infiltrate their ranks and take out their generals. Or, if you so desire, roll in and start blasting. Just be ready for a long battle.

10 Fallout 4 - The Silver Shroud

Fallout 4 - Kent Connelly in Goodneighbor talking about The Silver Shroud

Nostalgia is a funny thing, both a blessing and a curse. This side-quest of Fallout 4 balances the joy and the melancholy of remembering a time long gone. In it, you embody a radio superhero, the titular Silver Shroud, on behalf of a ghoul named Kent Connelly, who wants you to clean up the streets of Goodneighbor.

What follows is a lot of running around, some amusing dialogue, and a climax with surprisingly high stakes. Of course, you can do it in your own time - but if you decide to mainline it, it will likely take around two hours to complete. Kent's pleasant presence makes it all worth it.

9 Dishonored - Lady Boyle's Last Party

It's Dunwall's biggest night, and you can't miss it. While almost every mission in Dishonored is great, none shine as bright as 'Lady Boyle's Last Party.' Why anyone would throw a masquerade when the most wanted man in Dunwall wears a mask is anyone's guess. At least it gives Corvo a little bit of downtime.

Most of the mission involves you investigating the titular Lady Boyle, while deciphering which Lady Boyle you're targeting. There are three, after all. The mansion begs to be explored, so you'll likely spend an hour or more just wandering around, taking in the scenery, planning your routes. You have all the time in the world.

8 The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Kafei And Anju

Kafei hugging Anju after reuniting in Majora's Mask

Time never passes the right way - it is always too quick or too slow. No game understands that better than The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Everything you do has a set time limit and will be reset once the terrible, ever-grimacing moon crashes into the world again. Of all the quests in the game, none use that sense of urgency quite like the quest to reunite Kafei and Anju.

If you're far enough along in your primary objective, you may be able to finish this quest in one (normal-speed) three-day cycle, which comes to around an hour of real-world time. It will take up that entire hour - everything must happen on schedule. You're their only hope whether they know it or not. So give them that hour. Give them as many hours as it takes.

7 Horizon: Zero Dawn - The Face Of Extinction

Horizon Zero Dawn Deathbringer Machine

In Horizon: Zero Dawn's final mission, Aloy faces the last boss and an end to her journey for the main story. Taking 30 minutes to complete, 'The Face of Extinction' is exactly as it sounds, just Aloy single-handedly facing off against an entire army of Eclipse Cultists and Deathbringers.

Undoubtedly difficult and challenging, Aloy channels Legolas in this heart-stopping fight to the death, armed with her trusty bow and a handful of other weapons. Let's not get started with the hordes of powerful machines that come after and the blood-pumping encounter with Hades that might take a while to beat.

6 The Witcher 3: Blood And Wine - The Night Of Long Fangs

The Witcher 3 Blood And Wine Dettlaff.

The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine DLC remains one of the best DLCs ever made, with a fleshed-out storyline that ties up all loose ends satisfyingly - no matter what ending you get. But as soon as the quest 'The Night of Long Fangs' starts, it's basically the beginning of the final thread of the DLC, and it takes a heck of a long time to complete.

Spanning over two hours from start to the end, there's not really much of a choice except to ask Orianna's help or go to the Land of a Thousand Fables at the tail end of the Night of the Long Fangs. From there, it's straight to confronting Dettlaff and concluding the DLC with one of the three endings available. Regardless of the latter, this DLC is an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime adventure for the White Wolf.

5 Assassin's Creed Origins - Last Of The Medjay | Fall Of An Empire, Rise Of Another

Assassin's Creed Origins Rome - Collage

The quest 'Last of the Medjay' in Assassin's Creed: Origins may be short, but as soon as you set it off, you're carried straight to the end, providing a bridge to the 'Fall of an Empire, Rise of Another' quest.

With Bayek finally putting an end to all involved in his son's death, all that's left is for Aya to hitch a ride to Rome. Slinking into the Senate, Aya - in typical Assassin's Creed fashion - slips straight through and deals a sure blow to Caesar. In total, this quest takes almost 40 minutes to complete, but it sure is worth it to see a glimpse of Ancient Rome.

4 Dragon Age Inquisition - Wicked Eyes And Wicked Hearts

Empress Celene, Gaspard, and Briala in the Dragon Age Inquisition Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts quest

One of the most convoluted quests in Dragon Age: Inquisition, 'Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts' throws the Inquisitor and their party into a den of backstabbers and political social climbers. In a quest filled with subtle, well-hidden hints, this quest is not really obvious about how you accomplish some of their set goals. Plus, with a time limit imposed to return to the ballroom, you need to find the clues you need quickly.

This quest could amount to over an hour long, including the effort to find all the clues and collectables. Although it certainly is a tedious one, its gorgeous, conceptual design gives you further insight into Orlesian culture and their obsession with masks.

3 Cyberpunk 2077 - The Heist

Cyberpunk 2077 The Heist Quest

Part of the tail end of Act 1, Cyberpunk 2077's 'The Heist' quest extends to over one hour total. An introduction to V and what sets off their story - V infiltrates Konpeki Plaza with partner Jackie Welles, and T-Bug as a netrunner. Although they were successful in stealing the relic, V ends up framed for murder and suffers the loss of Jackie and T-Bug.

'The Heist' serves as a bridge to Act 2, and there is no way you can pause it to explore the world until you get to Johnny Silverhand's prologue questline. Also, you have to contend with long cutscenes you have no choice but to sit through. All in all, this is a very long introduction to the Cyberpunk world.

2 Skyrim: Dawnguard DLC - Touching The Sky

Skyrim's Dawnguard DLC offers you a peek into the final bastion of Snow Elf civilisation, nestled and hidden in the Forgotten Vale. As part of the 'Touching The Sky' quest, the Dragonborn and Serana endeavour to obtain Auriel's Bow in order to defeat the evil Harkon once and for all.

Starting from the gloomy, Falmer-infested Darkfall Cave, you navigate a labyrinth of tunnels to eventually reach Auriel's shrine and meet Gelebor. The resulting events send you around the magical, snow-capped mountains of the Forgotten Vale and the new enemies that dog your way. As a whole, this tiny adventure for Auriel's Bow takes close to two hours to complete.

1 Elder Scrolls Online - The Crystal Tower

The Elder Scrolls Online - The Crystal Tower

In the absolute final quest of 'The Crystal Tower' in the Summerset Chapter, Elder Scrolls Online sees The Vestige put an end to Nocturnal's schemes. The homeland of the High Elves has been beset by murderous plots engineered by certain troublesome Daedric Princes, but Nocturnal's greed for power nearly destroys all of Tamriel.

This quest really drags on and on. Just when you think it's over, you're directed to another area, with another new goal. Ultimately it's all to face down Nocturnal and her cronies. Overall, this final quest takes a whopping two hours to complete.
