My Time at Portia is a wonderful indie game that you can easily end up burning away dozens of hours in. The game has tons of different resources, some that will be easy to come by and others that will take a bit of work to get. One resource that is commonly used in the game is called Golden Ginseng. Sadly, though, it's not a resource that you can come by easily until you've made a bit of progress in the main story of the game.

How to Get Golden Ginseng

Yeye's Motel in South Block

Sadly, you can't grow Golden Ginseng or get it from fighting llamas. The only way to get ahold of this resource is by buying it. This isn't an easy feat either, as you will need to unlock the South Block Trade Store and then buy Ginseng from Yeye. The store is actually inside of the motel, so it may be hard to find if you are a first-time player.

  • Tip: Befriending Yeye will give you a 25% discount in her store.

The product is only stocked in sets of five and will cost you 600 gold per piece. The store is open from 7 am to 10 pm, so there is plenty of time to run by for a purchase. Be sure to go to the register inside of the motel and interact with it to bring up the shop menu.

How To Unlock The South Block Trade Store

South Block Overview

To unlock the motel and the South Block, you will need to make your way through My Time at Portia's story. The option to build a bridge to Eufaula Desert will unlock after clearing WOW Industries.

Once you build the bridge, you will be told to build a vehicle pitstop and then need to complete three more development projects to make South Block livable.

This will easily take a few hours of time, as you will likely need to grind out several materials in order to complete the South Block.

Golden Ginseng Uses

Mount

The main draw of Golden Ginseng is that Cotton Llamas are in love with the stuff. You can use Golden Ginseng to place in traps or even give it to your Cotton Llamas as a gift. In addition, both Gale and Issac have Golden Ginseng as one of their loved items.

Outside of Llama capture, there isn't a lot of use for the product but, unlike apples, you only need to place a single Golden Ginseng in a trap to make it work. If the trap doesn't catch a llama, then you will need to put in a fresh piece of Golden Ginseng the next day, so be sure to stock up when you make your next visit to Yeye's store.
