The announcement of Skyrim's Anniversary Edition now means the Elder Scrolls game has been released and re-released more times than Resident Evil 4.

As Hard Drive puts it, it has been ten, eight, five, four, and three years since Skyrim launched. Well, you can now add zero years to that list after Bethesda announced the Skyrim Anniversary Edition this week. Yet another version of the game to celebrate ten years since the original one launched. It will include 500 creation club items and a new fishing mechanic.

The continued quest by Bethesda to re-release Skyrim as many times as it possibly can will continue this November, and a certain stat highlighted by Jawmuncher may even fuel the jokes and the memes. Any time Skyrim's multiple re-releases have been highlighted, someone pops up to point out it's got nothing on Resident Evil 4.

Well, thanks to the announcement of the Anniversary Edition, now it does. When the new version of Skyrim launches on multiple platforms later this year, it will have finally been released more times than Resident Evil 4. The original game was released on four platforms, followed by the Special Edition on three more, and the upcoming Anniversary Edition will be available on five different platforms at launch.

As for Resident Evil 4, the original game can be played on nine platforms, its Ultimate HD Edition on PC, and there's also a VR version of the game. At this point, the score is Skyrim 12, Resident Evil 4 11. There are some caveats, though. An altered version of Resident Evil 4 has also been released on Zeebo and iOS, meaning it pulls back ahead of Skyrim. Or it would if a VR version of Skyrim hadn't also been released on PS4 and PC.

So at this point in time, or once the Anniversary Edition arrives, it'll be 14 Skyrim releases to Resident Evil 4's 13. Cue Capcom announcing a remaster so that it can take its crown back. Skyrim's Anniversary Edition will launch on November 11. Those of you who already own the Special Edition on last-gen consoles will be able to upgrade to the Anniversary Edition on new-gen systems free of charge.
