Few franchises are as old and as widely beloved as Transformers. The series has been strong for decades at this point, and its roots in video games are as old as it gets. With decades of video games under the belt of Transformers, it only makes sense that people have picked out a few that they love.

While the series isn't immune to having a few lackluster titles, even those that aren’t universally loved have some seriously die-hard fans. The brand will probably always be powerful because transforming robots will never not be cool (even Lego agrees), so there’ll probably never be a shortage of fantastic games for Transformer fans.

10 Transformers: Dark Of The Moon

While there are many different versions of this game, pretty much all of them are divisive. The biggest fans of the Transformers will never turn their back on an opportunity to pick up a game based on their favorite series, and that’s what this game serves up - more transforming robot fun.

It is fair to say that the game is an incredibly short experience, and not necessarily one that should have been as simplistic as it was. Despite that, there is still a lot of fun to be had playing as both the Decepticons and the Autobots.

9 Transformers: Rise Of The Dark Spark

This entry in the Transformers series was meant to be a prime game to tie into the box-office-smashing film series. While the game did have a lot going for it, there were a lot of reviewers who didn’t view the game as favorably as some others did.

Most people point out the multiplayer limitations of the game on Nintendo consoles, but they ignore how fantastic the game is on a visual level. Additionally, not enough credit goes into just how interesting the story of the game was, making it an entry some people may want to revisit.

8 Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen

The Transformers games had a period of struggle when it comes to capturing the reverence of reviewers, and this game was no different. However, it did have some redeeming qualities. Even those who hate the game can acknowledge that Transformers fans will probably find a lot to love.

You won’t be getting in-depth mechanics and revolutionary game design, but you will be getting a competent action shooter that lets you take control of your favorite transforming robots. If simple is all you need in life, it’s hard to hate on this game, even if it’s not always the prettiest.

7 Transformers Animated: The Game

There are a lot of people who will remember this game as one of the better handheld Transformers games. Rather than featuring plenty of action on the Nintendo DS, this game opts for a different approach, instead using plenty of puzzles for the gameplay.

The puzzles aren’t anything that revolutionized the genre, but they were enough to offer a mild challenge to the demographic who were likely playing the game at the time. It’s not necessarily one to go back to, but it’s a surprising little puzzle gem for the DS.

6 Transformers Prime: The Game

Considering this Wii game was made in tandem with the children’s cartoon, it makes sense that this game is a bit simpler than many of the other Transformers games on this list. Despite that simplicity, this is still a ton of fun to battle through.

With a multiplayer mode and stats for various missions, even someone who finds the experience easy has reason to keep coming back to it. At the end of the day, if you want a fun little story featuring plenty of Autobot action, it’s hard to do better than this game.

Sadly, support for this fantastic mobile game has recently come to an end, and it is really sad because this title was something special. It was a thrilling little action RPG experience that any Transformers fan could have on the go.

The game had a large story, plenty of missions, simple controls, multiple classes, and tons of characters. Fans of the series probably loved seeing just how many Transformers would end up making it into the game. Anyone who managed to play the game while it was live will know just how much fun it was.

4 Transformers: War For Cybertron

This excellent entry in the series was followed up with the equally excellent Fall Of Cybertron, and both games shook up the world of Transformers games. Both featured sprawling stories and plenty of high-paced action.

This game lets you experience stories from both the Decepticon and Autobot point of view, extending your time playing the game, and allowing you to come to grips with the fluid controls. Setting a title during the Transformers’ war on Cybertron was a stroke of genius and fans absolutely loved it.

3 Transformers: Fall Of Cybertron

When it comes to fan-favorite Transformer games, there's a reason that a lot of people point to this title. When the biggest complaint most can muster for it is that the story takes its time at points, Transformers fans will definitely be safe picking this one up.

Fall of Cybertron served as a major step up for the overall gameplay of the series, something that seemed like a seriously good sign for future games (at the time). Some people do prefer the game that came before this one, but you really can’t go wrong with either entry for some robot butt-kicking.

2 Transformers (PS2)

For a lot of people, this PS2 game was and potentially still is the best Transformers game ever made. While the story isn’t anything ground-breaking for fans of the series, the gameplay was a lot to love.

The playable roster wasn’t exactly massive, but the challenge and the fun story that the game offered were enough to keep people pushing on to the end. Each stage requires different strategies from the player making it so that each player may decide upon their own unique set of skills to finish tough challenges.

1 Transformers: Devastation

While this game may be a bit too cartoonish for some people, it’s hard to deny just how much fun it can be. Rather than trying for an overly complex third-person shooter, the team behind this game decided that a simple action game approach was much better.

They were right considering this flashy game is loved by fans for its simple but fun gameplay and unique attack combinations. It may be too simple for some, but those looking to experience that same Transformers magic they felt as a kid will love this one.
