Injustice 2 has made a massive presence in the gaming community. Refining every lacking aspect of Injustice: Gods Among Us, Netherrealm has perfected the formula and created a fighting game that will remain relevant for a long time. DC's eclectic cast of superheroes and villains have never looked so good.

Comic book fans alike will get a lot of enjoyment out of this game, as many new faces are gracing the roster this time around. No more do we have to just rely on heavy hitters like Batman and Green Lantern. Now we get to see fairly unknown fighters like Atrocitus, Swamp Thing, and Firestorm take the stage.

Like all fighting games, though, there is a general power curve with the characters. Simply put, there are some who are better than others (in both how the story presents them and how they play). That curve is what we'll be exploring in more detail. Understand going forward that tier lists are not concrete, as different sources provide different information, so take what we say with a grain of salt.

Where do your favorite characters rank on our list of the 8 best Injustice 2 fighters and 7 of the worst?

15 Best: The Dark Knight

via: wccftech.com

The Dark Knight is one of the best fighters in the DC Universe, and the same is true with Injustice 2. Batman has a lot of different gadgets and techniques to help him get the edge on his foes, and they're all equally useful when stringing combos together. His grapple allows him to strike a foe all the way across the stage as well as set up a long combo. His batarangs can disrupt people who fight in the air, and his counter is just as handy as you'd expect.

Because of his war with Superman in the last game, Batman is one of the driving forces of the narrative this time around. However, with new foes rising and a bigger threat looming over the world, he has to make some tough decisions for the good of mankind.

14 Worst: The Other Catwoman

Cheetah from Injustice 2 ready to fight

Cheetah is a classic Wonder Woman villain who has been long overdue for a major appearance in any DC-related media. She finally got her chance in the spotlight as a playable character in Injustice 2, but unfortunately, the results have left us a bit underwhelmed.

Cheetah is extremely fast and can combo well, but she can't take a punch nor can she dish one out. Her moves are very weak and won't do a lot of damage. Furthermore, a lot of her moves are only good in particular situations rather than being useful all the time. It's easy to get outplayed when you use Cheetah, as many other characters are better prepared for each and every tactic. We're still a bit unsure of her Vixen premier skin. It looks fine, but it doesn't feel right for the character.

13 Best: The Emerald Archer

via: youtube.com

Returning from Injustice: Gods Among Us is the Emerald Archer himself, Green Arrow. In the first game, he was a tricky character to master but could become a brutal opponent when done correctly. In Injustice 2, he's even better. Utilizing his trick arrows and air dominance, Green Arrow is one of the best choices in the game.

While his jump may not be very fast and, thus, leave him open to a counter attack, Green Arrow has really good coverage all around. All of his different arrows set up some amazing combos, and even factor into how his super move works. There were some who wondered if Green Arrow would make an appearance in Injustice 2, considering the fact that he died before the events of the first game and an alternate dimension Green Arrow had to come to save the day.

12 Worst: The Terror Of Kandor

via: screenrant.com

Brainiac serves as the main antagonist for Injustice 2. His looming threat over capturing the Earth forces Batman and Superman to put their differences aside and actually work together. Whether he's a compelling villain or not, it at least made for some excellent character moments with the other superheroes.

That makes it all the more disappointing when you figure out that Brainiac isn't a great character. In battle, a lot of his moves require such specific timing to pull off correctly. He also relishes in dive kicking, which isn't a great strategy in and of itself. The character isn't centered around combos, and because of that, is lacking as a result. With other villains on the roster, Brainiac is easily one of the worst choices.

11 Best: The Man Who Never Misses

via: comicbookmovie.com

While we had Deathstroke in the first game to give us an assassin who used close combat and guns to get the job done, this game brings us Floyd Lawton, otherwise known as Deadshot. This character functions very similarly to Deathstroke on paper, but plays very differently.

Because he is one known for using solely guns, many of Deadshot's moves center around trick shots and multiple firearms. He can deflect bullets off the ground and pull a knife out when bad guys get too close. Because of his guns, he has become an extremely viable choice in the metagame, to the point where people have stated that he is overpowered. Regardless of where you stand on that debate, there's no denying that Deadshot has a lot of potential.

10 Worst: Rogue Robin

via: cosmicbooknews.com

Being the Robin who died and came back from the dead, Red Hood has become one of DC's most popular characters to date. It made sense then that he would be the first DLC character to come to Injustice 2. Unfortunately, the character is underwhelming at best, even when considering his design.

Something about his default look feels off. The red helmet and narrow eyes just seem out of place. You can change this with gear, so that's not a huge issue. When it comes to fighting, it seems that Netherrealm wasn't sure what to do with the character. He has guns, but so does Deadshot. He has some good mechanics, but nothing that will shake up the gameplay like with the top tier characters.

9 Best: The Girl From Krypton

via: collider.com

Superman isn't the only Kryptonian to come to the battle in Injustice 2, as Kara Zor-El is ready to join the fray. However, when she gets to Earth, she realizes that something isn't right and is tricked into thinking Superman is betrayed. Once she learns the truth of what happened, she sides with Batman and is ready to take down her cousin.

In terms of combat, Supergirl is an excellent character. Where Superman relies more on strength, Supergirl is an emissary of speed and long range. Her moves chain together extremely well, and she is difficult to predict. Her heat vision is linked to her special, meaning that you'll only press one button to access it (as opposed to a more complicated button press with Superman). Her Super Move also sends a flurry of asteroids on top of her foes. Impressed yet?

8 Worst: Don't Call Him Monkey...

via: cbr.com

Big and slow characters don't often do well in fighting games, and Gorilla Grodd is just more proof of that. Despite his prominence in the game's story as the leader of the Society, Grodd isn't as capable on the battlefield as he is in manipulating the world to fit his ideals and goals.

In the game, Gorilla Grodd isn't fast and is very slow. Where other characters would be able to jump out of the way of an attack, Grodd has to block (and that only takes you so far). Due to his lumbering size, he's extremely easy to hit. And if your opponent is on the ground or too far away, landing his Super Move will be a major pain. We like the character, but in terms of how effective he is in this game, we'd much rather pick somebody else.

7 Best: The Fastest Man Alive

The Flash running at high speeds in Injustice 2

Barry Allen was a member of Superman's Regime in the last game, but he decided to defect and join Batman's Insurgency in time for the second game. He has to work to gain back the trust of other heroes, but he ends up proving himself nonetheless, both in character and in combat.

Just like the previous entry, the Flash pleasures himself in hitting fast and stringing many punches together. His special ability also makes it a breeze when putting combos together, as he simply slows down time. Not only that, but he holds the best premiere skins in the entire game on top of one of the greatest Super Moves in the Injustice franchise. No doubt he's a top pick for people who want to get serious.

6 Worst: The Burning Man

Firestorm from the Injustice 2 trailer

Clearly an addition thanks to his inclusion in Legends of Tomorrow, Firestorm has come to Injustice 2 to basically be the character who is able to use fire in battle. One of the newer recruits that Batman has brought to his Insurgency, Firestorm is every bit as young and naive as you might expect.

Unfortunately, that reflects in how he plays. Despite being able to blast fire out of his hands, Firestorm has more close range attacks than long range. On top of that, Firestorm's moves are pretty slow, meaning that it's much easier to counter him and adapt to his strategy over other characters. His Super Move does look flashy, but in a game this bombastic, that's a necessity. These factors keep him among the bottom of the barrel.

5 Best: The God Of Evil

via: gaming.com

Of all of the massive DC characters who appeared in the first game, one notable absence was that of Darkseid. Being one of the greatest Justice League villains of all time, it would make sense for him to be in it, right? After all, Solomon Grundy managed to nab a spot! Needless to say, he was only a cameo in a stage transition.

Now for this game, he's a fully playable character, and he's a beast. With his Omega Beams, he can hit at a distance as well as strike a foe's back when they're guarding. Darkseid hits extremely hard and has many useful powers to get massive chains going. What makes this all worse for opponents is that Darkseid can crush you while keeping his hands folded behind his back, signifying his leadership and confidence. Did I mention he can also summon his Parademons to help?

4 Worst: The Man Who Mastered Absolute Zero

via gamezone.com

Another type of character that has been shoehorned into the Injustice series is the one that can control ice. The first game had the odd inclusion of Killer Frost, and this time around we get Captain Cold. While a bit more well-known thanks to The Flash TV show, it's a bit of an odd choice when compared to powerhouses like Swamp Thing and Doctor Fate.

Captain Cold has some interesting ways to use his Cold Gun in combat, as well as having some good moves to boot. However, much like how he seemed like an afterthought when looking at the game as a whole, so was his play style. Captain Cold isn't a great character, and will often get bodied by many of the other characters mentioned on this list. There are people who effectively utilize him (and he gets a sweet Mr. Freeze skin), but that alone doesn't make him a good character.

3 Best: Master Of Fear

via youtube.com

Scarecrow has gone through many design changes over the years (with some excellent interpretations, like in the Arkham series) but it's his appearance in Injustice 2 that's worthy of the most attention. In this game, Scarecrow uses his fear toxin to make himself look like a horrific monster with a massive chain and sickle.

This fits him right in with the other characters of the game, as he both brings fear and power to the table. He may not be as fast as some of the other fighters, but Scarecrow's chain more than makes up for that. Couple that with some painful-looking grabs and cringy dialogue, you have a character that's worth playing for both serious and casual gamers alike.

2 Worst: The Clown Prince Of Crime

via: youtube.com

If there were ever a character who was put into a game out of a sense of obligation, it would be the Joker in Injustice 2. After being killed in the first game by Superman, the Clown Prince of Crime returns this time around as a hallucination in Harley's head (brought on by Scarecrow's fear toxin). We're not sure what it is about DC games bringing the Joker back as a mind trick. We're looking at you, Arkham Knight.

Story inclusion aside, the Joker isn't a great character to use in battle. His moves are all fun to watch, but they're not as powerful or quick as some other fighters. He's not a downright bad character, but when compared to the rest of the cast, he is technically one of the worst.

1 Best: The Boy Wonder

via gamernetwork.com

In the Injustice storyline, Damian Wayne is the current Robin. However, after Superman started to take over the world, he sided with the Man of Steel rather than his father. Along the way, he accidentally got Dick Grayson killed, and Batman never forgave him. In the first game, he took the Nightwing persona in honor of Grayson, but in Injustice 2, has returned to the Robin mantle.

Robin is a beast. With his sword at hand, he slices fast and hard through any opponent. Every attack he executes looks and sounds painful. He also has good mobility to boot, flipping around enemy attacks before thrusting his sword into their bodies. It's clear that Robin and Batman will never work again after their tattered history, and Damian is intent on forging his own path.
