The video game industry makes more money than any other form of media, with characters like Mario reaching the same levels of fame as Batman or Mickey Mouse. As such, there is an abundance of merchandise for every major video game franchise, ranging from action figures, clothes, posters, music CDs, and anything you could imagine.

There are times when video game companies make strange licensing decisions when it comes to merchandise, one of which involves official perfume based on specific characters. There are lots of real-life celebrities who endorse different fragrances, so maybe the thinking is that there are iconic video game characters who can fill the same role?

Valentine's Day is coming up soon, so if you're particularly rich and desire a significant other who smells like a rough approximation of a video game hero/villain, then we have some amazing choices for you!

Cloud Strife From Final Fantasy VII

Square Enix has produced its fair share of Final Fantasy VII in merchandise over the years, but they once decided to go in the strange direction of releasing perfume/aftershave based on Cloud Strife.

The Cloud Strife fragrance is intended for both men and women, and was meant to be fruity, with a distinct note of citrus. It was actually possible for Cloud to put on cologne during the infamous Wall Market cross-dressing scene in Final Fantasy VII, so maybe his fragrance is evocative of that quest?

How Much Does It Cost? - The bottles can still be bought on the second-hand market, with one person on eBay selling it for $90.

Nemesis From Resident Evil 3

We could see Cloud as the face of a perfume commercial. Nemesis... less so.

The Nemesis T-Virus cologne was only sold in very limited qualities, as it was a promotional item that was available at the Capcom Cafe during the 20th-anniversary celebrations of the Biohazard/Resident Evil series. The exact nature of the scent is unclear, but it's unlikely that Capcom would see something that smells like a leather-bound monster. Maybe Nemesis had a gorgeous musk this whole time and Jill had to stop herself from falling in love with him? Nemesis just never learned that girls don't react well when you fire rockets at them.

How Much Does It Cost? - People without the backing of the Umbrella Corporation might want to think twice before ordering one of these, as the limited nature of this product means that they go for around $200 on eBay.

The Cast Of Persona 3, 4, and 5

The third, fourth, and fifth games in the Persona series have struck a chord with fans around the world and their casts are beloved among RPG aficionados. It should come as no surprise that characters from all three games have their own fragrances that are sold in Japan.

What is surprising are some of the choices of scents alongside the main cast of each game. The Persona 3 selection has one for Ryoji Mochizuki (the avatar of Nyx, the personification of death itself), the Persona 4 selection has one for Tohru Adachi (a heartless serial killer), and the Persona 5 selection has one for a villain whose identity we won't reveal, as there are people who don't want to be spoiled in the run-up to Persona 5 Royal.

How Much Does It Cost? - The bottles can be purchased from the Primaniacs website for around six thousand yen each, but the company doesn't ship internationally. Fortunately, there are companies like Mu-Mo that can buy goods within Japan and ship them abroad, for the people who really want to smell like Morgana.
