PS Plus - August 2017

via: theverge.com

The next batch of free PS Plus games will be released on Tuesday the 1st of August.

PlayStation 4

Just Cause 3 - This is the biggest game of the PS Plus lineup for the month. Just Cause 3 is a sandbox game based around the concept of overthrowing a dictatorship by blowing up all the stuff the dictator owns. If you love open world games that allow you to slowly take over enemy territory peace by peace, whilst engaging in GTA-like levels of destruction, then this is the title for you.

Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry - This game actually started out as a DLC single player campaign for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. It was eventually released as a standalone game. You play as Adéwalé, who was a prominent NPC from the base version of the game. Adéwalé abandons the Assassins in order to join a group that opposes the slave trade. If you loved Black Flag, then you are certain to love this game as well.

Downwell - PS Plus is known for giving away some trash-quality indie games. This isn't one of them. Downwell is an addictive roguelike/shooter game where you are constantly descending down a pit. This may be the best game released on PS Plus in August.

PlayStation 3

Snakeball - If you ever wanted a competitive multiplayer version of Centipede that is set in a disco, then this is the game for you. Snakeball offers exciting and challenging multiplayer action.

Super Motherload - If you ever wanted a competitive multiplayer version of Dig Dug, then this is the game for you. Super Motherload involves groups of players driving around in cars that can drill underground, as they attempt to destroy each other.

PlayStation Vita

Level 22 - This is a stealth game that is set in a modern office building. You play as Gary, who shows up late for work after getting drunk one night. He has to hide from his co-workers, as he will be fired if the boss discovers that he is late again.

Downwell is also available for the Vita.

Here are the free games that are being given away as part of Xbox Live Gold throughout the month of August.

Xbox One

Slime Rancher (August 1st - 31st) - This is a highly acclaimed game that has been on Early Access in Steam for a while now. Slime Rancher is finally getting a full release in August and Xbox One gamers can pick it up for free. This is a game where you have to collect and farm slime monsters in order to earn money. The early reviews for this game has been very positive so far.

Trials Fusion (August 16th - September 15th) - Trials Fusion is an acclaimed futuristic stunt bike racing/platform game. This is a game that is all about pulling off precise stunts and showing off, rather than taking itself too seriously as a racer.

Xbox 360

Bayonetta (August 1st - 15th) - This is one of the best action games of all time. Bayonetta stars the titular witch as she battles the angelic hosts of Heaven. The Xbox 360 version of the game was considered to be the definitive edition (before Platinum struck a deal with Nintendo), as the PlayStation 3 port was a total mess. Bayonetta is one of only a handful of games to have received a perfect score in Famitsu magazine. That should be all the incentive you need to try this game out.

Red Faction: Armaggedon (August 16th - 31st) - This is the fourth game in the Red Faction series. It lets you blow up the landscape in ways that most other games won't allow. Red Faction Armaggedon is set on Mars and follows the human colonists of the planet who were forced to move underground. This had the effect of awakening a race of dormant Martians, who want to kill the humans who have intruded on their territory.

That is all of the free games for this month. Check out The Gamer next month for September's free games!
