Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and the development team Player First Games are bringing back MultiVersus, a cross-IP, multiplayer fighting game. The studio made it clear just how devoted it is to creating an experience that’s true to the characters Warner Bros. licensed, so that means a full roster of original voice actors.

Multiversus: 10 Best Character Designs
There are plenty of characters to choose from in Multiversus, but which have the best designs?

What’s more, the actual roster of characters is delightfully stacked — Bugs Bunny from Looney Tunes, Garnet from Steven Universe, Batman from literally everything, and Arya Stark from Game of Thrones, just to name a few. But now we’re going to publicly daydream about a few of the Warner Bros. characters we’d love to see make their gladiatorial debut. Here’s what we’ve got.

Updated on March 15, 2024, by Dennis Moiseyev: MultiVersus is officially relaunching, and plenty of notable Warner Bros. IP for film and television was released during the multiversal fighting game's hiatus. So, who should join the likes of Arya Stark, Shaggy, Wonder Woman, and Rick and Morty? Well, we've updated our wishlist with some compelling choices.

15 Willy Wonka And Oompa Loompas

Willy Wonka Movies

Any of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movies are fair game, including Paul King's 2023 prequel, Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet. Perhaps MultiVersus will even have a confectioner's trifecta of Gene Wilder's Wonka, Johnny Depp's darker and enigmatic Tim Burton version, or Chalamet's younger pre-Chocolate Factory Wonka.

Though Wonka isn't a violent character by any means, the chocolates with special properties to disadvantage enemies can be used as part of the movesets for this character. Then, you can also consider that the Oompa Loompas might be summoned to provide some assistance to their jolly good employer and chocolate maker.

14 Barbie, Ken, And Allan

Barbie

Warner Bros. also produced Greta Gerwig's Oscar-nominated vision for Barbie, starring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, and Michael Cera. And how magical and amazing would it be to see these characters once again leave Barbieland and find themselves in a fighting game?

You’ve seen Barbie and Oppenheimer, but now what?

The Kens already proved they could put on a pretty grand fight with the beach sequence during Gosling's iconic song 'I'm Just Ken,' and, as the line of Barbie dolls has shown, Barbie can be anything, even a MultiVersus character. And Allan, well, Cera often stole the show as him whenever he appeared, so of course he deserves to tag along.

13 Adonis Creed And Rocky Balboa

Rocky And Creed Movies

These characters were missing in action during the original run of MultiVersus, and they would make terrific fighters, as they're natural-born boxers. Sly Stallone and Michael B. Jordan returning to reprise Rocky Balboa and Adonis Creed, the son of Apollo Creed from the spin-off films, would be a spectacular addition.

The stages of MultiVersus might be a very different ring than either of these two fighters are used to, but they're always up to taking on the best of the best and proving themselves, even if that means powered DC heroes like Superman.

Michael B. Jordan has reprised the role of Adonis Creed in the video games Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions and Creed: Rise to Glory - Championship Edition.

12 Furiosa, Mad Max, And War Boys

Mad Max Series

With the new version of MultiVersus set to launch just days after the Furiosa prequel movie starring Anya Taylor-Joy in May 2024, you can bet on her character showing up in this Warner Bros. brawler. You might even get to play the variants of Charlize Theron's older Furiosa from Fury Road and Anya Taylor-Joy's from Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

But if MultiVersus adds Furiosa, it shouldn't leave out Mad Max (who already had a video game outing in 2015) and the War Boys, the other iconic main characters in the universe created by George Miller equally deserving of joining in on the action. All three prove excellent fighters in their survival of the Wasteland and would show off those skills to the MultiVersus roster.

11 Joel And Ellie

HBO's The Last Of Us

Although The Last of Us was originally a Sony title, Naughty Dog's collaboration with WB-owned HBO Max for the live-action television adaptation makes it fair game for these characters to be a part of the multiverse roster. Actors Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey reunite from Game of Thrones in the post-apocalyptic world to portray one of gaming's best duos.

Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna, and many more appeared in the TV adaptation of the beloved game.

The first season followed the original game pretty closely, with only a few minor differences, and it showed you just how tough Ellie and Joel were through all that they overcame. These would be excellent characters to cross over from both TV and gaming into MultiVersus, and how cool would it be to see Bella's Ellie in a battle with Arya Stark, since Lyanna Mormont was never added?

10 Paul Atreides, Chani, And Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen

Dune: Part Two

Dune is all the hype thanks to the stunning cinematic vision of Oscar-nominated director Denis Villeneuve. The story, visuals, and characters made it one of the best sci-fi movie series of all time, and Dune: Part: Two is a stellar sequel that expands the story of Paul and Chani while introducing Austin Butler's incredible villain Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.

Feyd-Rautha had his gladiator arena moment in Dune: Part Two and the movie ends with his one-on-one knife fight with Paul Atreides, so if you want to see the two rivals go at it again, perhaps MultiVersus would be that setting. Paul and Chani battling it out in video game fashion, especially with the way things ended for them, would be even more epic.

9 Yakko, Wakko, And Dot

Animaniacs

The main three Animaniacs - Yakko, Wakko, and Dot standing in front of the Warner Bros. Water Tower.

It stands to reason that one of the flagship cartoons for Warner Bros. should make an appearance in a game starring Warner Bros. IP. Yakko, and his siblings, Wakko and Dot (collectively known as the Animaniacs), were notorious for causing hilarious mayhem that often led to physical and psychological damage for anyone in their proximity.

Admittedly, his move pool might fall into a similar vein as what you might expect to see for Bugs Bunny, as they are both known for chaotic mischief, but their animations and voice lines would sufficiently differentiate them.

8 The Doctor

Doctor Who

Doctor Who all 14 Doctors up to David Tennant including Jo Martin and John Hurt as The War and Fugitive Doctors respectively

Listen, The Doctor might indeed have a 'no fighting' rule, but considering the number of brawls they've started during the never-ending run of Doctor Who, maybe they’d be willing to add one more rager to their list. The Doctor’s presence would solidify the reach that MultiVersus seems to be hinting at with the addition of Arya Stark, too.

And the game wouldn’t even have to pick just ONE Doctor, either, because MultiVersus has costume variants! You could hypothetically spend one match as grumpy number 12 and the next running for your life as number nine, just to stay true to the character.

7 Freakazoid

Freakazoid

Close-up of Freakazoid from the animated series in the red superhero costume amid a yellow and orange background.

Perhaps the deepest cut to bring to the MultiVersus table is Freakazoid, the superhero protagonist of a Warner Bros. cartoon of the same name from the late ’90s that lasted for an entire two seasons before getting canceled, possibly for being the most absolutely ridiculous thing on TV (and that’s saying something for the network that brought us Pinky and the Brain).

Among Freakazoid’s powers are super speed, super strength, super intelligence (the entirety of the 1995 internet was in his head), telekinesis, and a Deadpool-like awareness of his existence within a television serial. In a game that already has a few DC heroes, Freakazoid would be the perfect balance to Batman and Superman’s more prominent name recognition.

6 Lucy/Wyldstyle

The Lego Movie

Close-up of the character Wyldstyle from a title card from The Lego Movie.

Honestly, any character from the Lego Movie would be welcome. Emmet seems like the most likely selection, should the developers go this route, but Wyldstyle displayed such a range of amazing talents in the movie that it would be almost a crime to not let her flex a little more.

Who wouldn't want to do sick flips all over the stage while dodging Wonder Woman's lasso, shred the stage for spare parts to build some kind of Lego mech to totally trash Finn (even though he doesn’t deserve it), and perform a special move where Lucy rides Unikitty across the arena in a blaze of rainbow-tinted glory?

5 Betelgeuse

Beetlejuice

Say his name three times really fast, or slowly across the span of several seasons, either way, Betelgeuse should absolutely make it into the fray. It can be Michael Keaton’s version, or even Alex Brightman’s (there’s a musical, now, in case that name is foreign to you); it’s just incredibly important to summon the spirit in the striped suit.

He would operate like the standard magic user, since Betelgeuse can canonically teleport, shift his form, etc. The teleport would obviously be his dodge, and the transformation thing would probably work best as a taunt, but what should really happen is for characters to be singing Day O!

4 Lara Croft

Tomb Raider

Alicia Vikander sports dual pistols in Tomb Raider 2018

If you ignore the fact that her games technically fall under Sony’s jurisdiction, the Alicia Vikander and Angelina Jolie films are Warner Bros. property — yay for loopholes! Lara Croft is sorely needed to fill out the character roster. Not just because MultiVersus would be incomplete without her, but because she’s been left out of every Smash-like, including Smash itself.

And that’s a shame. Lara Croft is as iconic as Indiana Jones, both of which inspired Nathan Drake, and he’s already popped up for a bit in PlayStation All-Stars. From her dual pistols to her bow, combat training, and entire Solid Snake-esque arsenal, Lara Croft would be a riot of an addition that would easily bring that special spark.

3 Leonidas

300

Gerard Butler's King Leonidas roaring in fury with his sword raised as his fallen men lay behind him.

The king of Sparta is no stranger to battle, so, aside from the game’s rating, Leonidas would fit right in with the crew of MultiVersus. He feels like he’d operate a bit like the Fire Emblem characters in Smash, where he’d mix up swordplay and a little magic. Unlike Ike and Marth and company, though, he’d definitely throw some hand-to-hand combat in there, too. Maybe some screaming. For fun!

Frankly, the main reason Leonidas must be entered as a fighter in MultiVersus is that his iconic Spartan kick would clearly be his special move that blasts opponents off the screen so fast that if you blink you'd miss it; just look at how Assassin's Creed Odyssey demonstrated that!

2 Michael Jordan

Space Jam

Michael Jordan in his TuneSquad uniform with his arms on his hips looking over at Bugs Bunny in the locker room.

LeBron James has already made an appearance in MultiVersus due to the 2021 sequel movie Space Jam: A New Legacy, which essentially functioned in the same cross-IP capacity. But if we’re going to have another basketball star in the game, there’s no doubt that the better pick is Michael Jordan.

No shade to LeBron James; it's just that the OG Space Jam legend was missed. Michael Jordan's moveset would probably be nearly identical to that of LeBron's, as the Space Jam sequel went to specific pains to ensure most of the bits from the first movie made it in. But it would be something to witness if these two NBA legends took the fight outside the basketball court and into a MultiVersus arena.

1 Buddy The Elf

Elf

Will Ferrell's Buddy eating spaghetti with pasta and candy, an with noodles in his mouth and an open jar of M&Ms and syrups beside him.

This is the one. If the internet can coerce Sakurai to deliver Sora, then surely it can cultivate that same energy to convince Player First Games to bestow the gift of Buddy The Elf as a playable character in MultiVersus. It doesn’t even feel like that much of a stretch to say Will Ferrell would come back to voice some flavor lines, especially given his longstanding history with WB.

Just imagine the moveset! Buddy could barrage his foes with rapid-fire snowballs, he could trip them up in a maple syrup/oil slick situation, and his singing, well, that would easily cause some serious damage. Just imagine... "I’m singing! I’m fighting Shaggy and I’m singing!" You cannot disagree that it wouldn’t brighten your day.
