The Mass Effect universe is one of the most expansive universes in RPGs in any video game period. More than a thousand years of recorded galactic history has made the in-game universe the way it is now. Mass Effect: Andromeda showed us that over 600 years had passed since the events of Mass Effect 3, adding with it a variety of different events taking place.

600 years is a long time and a lot of things can happen in that time. That includes events that happen in both the Milky Way and Andromeda Galaxies. These 10 crazy events that occurred might have flown under the radars of even the most die-hard of fans.

10 Liara Is Still Alive

Liara in the Mass Effect next-gen trailer

When the trailer was dropped for the new Mass Effect game (whatever it may be called), the last thing people expected to see was everyone's favorite Asari: Liara. With the series' future being kind of uncertain after the mixed response to Andromeda, it was nice seeing a familiar face.

It is unknown what exactly she did in between 3 and Andromeda, but it can be implied that she was able to help rebuild after the defeat of the Reapers. Expect to see an older and wiser Liara in the future. Remember: Asaris can live for up to 1,000 years.

9 Society Is Rebuilding

The war with the Reapers led to untold destruction on a scale never seen before. In the next-gen trailer, a couple of dead Reapers can be seen, as well as a heavily damaged Mass Relay in the background.

It can be implied that even after over 600 years after the Reaper War, the galactic community is still rebuilding after everything is said and done. The Reaper menace stretched to every corner of the Milky Way.

8 The Jardaan Thrived In Andromeda

The Jardaan are a now-extinct species that thrived in the Heleus cluster of the Andromeda Galaxy between the events of 3 and Andromeda. Though the species is gone, their mark has been forever left on the cluster which is similar to the Protheans in the Milky Way.

These marks include the Remnant -- the robots and ruins that are scattered throughout the cluster's planets. There are also the terraforming vaults, Meridian, and, surprisingly enough, the Angara. For all their achievements though, the wonderful Jardaan culture would all eventually come crashing down.

7 The Scourge Is Unleashed In Heleus

A lot is unknown about the scourge, but what is known is that its creation would lead to the extinction of the Jardaan, as well as the Angara losing much of their history. The inexplicable, but highly damaging force is indiscriminate it seems.

Most damaging, though, is that it has left the golden worlds that the Andromeda Initiative mapped out totally inhospitable. This occurred while the travelers were asleep in cyro in deep space. They could not have detected nor predicted what would happen to their golden worlds.

6 The Kett Arrive In Heleus

Around 80 years before the ark Hyperion lands in Andromeda, the Kett arrive in Heleus for the first time. Led by the enigmatic Archon, they intended to "exalt" the entire cluster to add it to their empire.

At some point though, the Archon becomes obsessed with figuring out how to turn the Remnant technology into a weapon to force the cluster to submit to exaltation or die en masse.

5 The Kett Instigate A War With The Angara

At the same time of their arrival, the Kett greet themselves as friends to the Angara who seek to work together in order to better each other. This allows the latter to let their guard down -- a move that the Kett exploit.

The Kett betray the Angara and kill most of their key leadership and are able to isolate the Angara from each other. Those not killed are captured and turned into Kett through exaltation. This naturally causes a war to break out that is still going on at the time of Andromeda.

4 The Nexus Has A Hard Landing In Heleus

The Nexus in MEA

Around a year before the start of Andromeda, the Nexus arrives in Heleus expecting everything to be all good. That is not the case as they have not heard anything from the arks and quickly encounter the scourge.

This results in a hard landing that leads to many stasis pods being destroyed and key members dead -- including the initiative's founder: Jien Garson. Morale plummets as much of the Nexus leadership get killed, as well as other senseless deaths from this encounter.

3 The Nexus Uprising

With the aforementioned rough landing, the golden worlds being a bust, Kett encounters, and supplies running low, people get understandably angry and initiate an uprising against the Nexus leadership.

It is rough for everyone involved as there are deaths on both sides. The Nexus, however, ultimately wins in the end after bringing the Krogan out to deal with the rebels led by Nexus defector Sloane Kelly. The rebels are exiled from the Nexus while the Krogan, under false pretense that they would get more say in Nexus politics, have their expectations betrayed which leads to their departure.

2 Jian Garson Is Murdered

As it turns out, Jien Garson was not killed when the Nexus first hit the scourge. It turns out that she was murdered by an unknown assailant in an apartment for discovering a huge secret about the nature of the initiative.

That secret being that the Initiative had a mysterious benefactor who knew the Milky Way would be attacked by the Reapers. This showed that the Initiative served as a subtle mass evacuation so that life for the Milky Way species could continue elsewhere. While it is unknown if Garson found out about the Reapers, fans believe that she discovered the benefactor's identity and was ultimately killed for it.

1 The Exiles And Krogan Rebuild Elsewhere

Both groups had nowhere to go after the Nexus uprising, but they are able to power through this struggle. The exiles go to Kadara where they are successful in driving out the Kett that are there. Sloane Kelly establishes the Outcasts and is able to lead the exiles who stayed with her into building Kadara Port.

Meanwhile, the Krogan establish a settlement on the hot desert planet of Elaaden as led by Overlord Morda. They call it New Tuchanka and are openly unfriendly towards the Initiative for betraying their trust. It is a bit like the genophage all over again, but with less genetic fiddling.
