Ring Fit Adventure has proven to be a wide variety of positive gaming experiences in one well-crafted package. Not only does this game function as a wonderful fitness program for those wanting to get an indoor workout, but it's also a wonderful action RPG in its own right thanks to its unique Joy-Con controls and countless obstacle courses.

There are some other great workout games, amazing obstacle course games, and even some that just do a great job using the Nintendo Switch's spectacular motion controls.

Updated on February 15th, 2022 by Geoffrey Martin: Seeing 2022 is well underway now, it's a great time to look back on our resolutions for the new year, whether that be to exercise more or to enjoy the great outdoors more. While this is certainly an admirable goal and resolution, oftentimes it can be very challenging to stick with them past a few months or so, if not a few weeks. Fortunately, video games are here to provide not only a virtual escape but sometimes a way to enjoy "outdoor" activities in the comfort of your living room. Whether you want to exercise from home with Ring Fit Adventure or if you want an escape that makes you feel like you are participating in similar sports-adjacent activities then the Switch is here to help.

15 Mario Party Superstars

mario party superstars yoshi's tropical island

Price: $59.99

Release Date: October 29, 2021

Number of Players: up to 4

Mario Party probably needs no introduction since the game franchise has been around for over two decades, however, for the uninitiated, it's a series all about playing a virtual board game with a bevy of mini-games. Mario Party Superstars, the newest entry in the franchise, is a throwback to the classics.

While some iterations of Mario Party had you actually use motion control which required you to get up off your couch, Superstars eschews that in favor of a more traditional board game experience. Don't worry, there will be plenty of shenanigans as you compete for stars against your friends and family.

14 Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise

Punching to the rhythm of a song in Fitness Boxing 2

Price: $49.99

Release Date: December 4, 2020

Number of Players: up to 2

If what you're looking for in a Ring Fit Adventure-style game is a solid workout, few games can fill that niche as well as the Fitness Boxing series, with Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise being the premiere entry on the Nintendo Switch. This game is an active rhythm game that involves holding your Joy-Cons to punch heavily to all sorts of hit music.

This game is one of the most genuine workouts you can get on the console, and that's much thanks to the hardware being able to track your movement so smoothly. It's incredibly easy to get into if you want something a little less story and adventure-driven than Ring Fit Adventure but still want that fitness routine.

You use the Joy-Cons to makeshift a jump rope to make your bunny bounce, recording your time and number of jumps gifting you with daily goals to fulfill.

It's hardly a complex game, but given that it's free it's hard to ignore it as a little electronic addition to your home workout. It's also remarkably adorable with a simplistic style and clean UI, making it very easy to quickly download and jump into.

12 1-2-Switch

Rolling balls with motion and rumble in 1-2-Switch

Price: $49.99

Release Date: March 03, 2017

Number of Players: up to 2 at a time

If you're more interested in the motion control side of Ring Fit Adventure, there are tons of party games that can do a similar job to Ring Fit Adventure's gimmicks in different genres. This especially includes party games, with 1-2-Switch being the ultimate experience in using the hardware to the fullest.

This pile of minigames is great for friends who want something a little unusual from their entertainment, with the rumble and mobility of the Joy-Cons being the primary highlight. You won't be moving intensely like the workout games, but there's still much to be said for a game that lets you get on your feet like this.

11 Zumba Burn It Up

Zumba Fitness for Nintendo Switch

Price: $39.99

Release Date: November 19, 2019

Number of Players: up to 4

While technically a workout game, Zumba Burn It Up fulfills a different style of fitness game that more fits the rhythm and dance genres. Compared to another entry on this list, this is much more leaning on the workout side, though, as Zumba is immensely popular in both the real and gaming world right now.

As a result, it'll give you a great musical workout and makes a great activity if you just want to be moving. If you enjoy music and want a great general exercise game that's less specific than Fitness Boxing's punch-based experience, Zumba Burn It Up should give you just what you need.

Number of Players: up to 2

The Just Dance series is an absolute all-star for those who want to get moving, with titles still releasing on the original Wii console with new songs and mechanics each year. Nearly any game in the series is great if you want to move your body quickly and aerobically, but the Nintendo Switch version movements are easily some of the most absorbing.

Rather than the broad strokes of the Wii Remote, the newer games use the Joy-Cons to the fullest for a much more fine-tuned experience. Those who want a little more dance than Ring Fit Adventure will get just as much movement out of this title, while still retaining all the sharpness from the hardware's incredible polish.

9 American Ninja Warrior Challenge

Climbing an upside-down staircase in American Ninja Warrior Challenge for Nintendo Switch

Price: $29.99

Release Date: March 19, 2019

Number of Players: up to 4

Outside of fitness games, there's also a wide variety of titles on the Nintendo Switch that fulfill the obstacle course style formats, as Ring Fit Adventure's main appeal is the linear adventures you go on in your effort to work out. It's not just about working out, but also about doing something spectacular on-screen.

A raw example of this is American Ninja Warrior Challenge which puts you in the seat of the popular television show for a more button-based version of the experience. This is hardly as motion-heavy as the other games on this list, but if you want an experience with similar gameplay from your seat, this game can potentially offer that.

8 Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020

Mario and Sonic wearing Tank Tops at the non-existent Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Price: $59.99

Release Date: November 5, 2019

Number of Players: up to 8 players

Rather than the workout games, the magnificent sports series Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games is a great example of a polished version of a motion-heavy party game. As a result, the most recent entry taking place at the non-existent 2020 games in Tokyo is a great one for those who enjoy both 1-2-Switch and Ring Fit Adventure.

Having the Mario coat of paint does wonders for this series, as it makes for an especially cartoonish experience that still gets you moving in a lot of unique ways. It might not resemble a workout, but it'll certainly be more active than most other games in your library.

5 ARMS

Fighting a boxing mummy in ARMS

Price: $59.99

Release Date: June 16, 2017

Number of Players: up to 4

The most similar game to Ring Fit Adventure in nearly every front is undoubtedly ARMS, a strange fighting game featuring a cast of spring-loaded boxers that range from ancient mummies to advanced androids. While it's possible to play this game through buttons alone, the best way to play is definitely through the fluid and deep motion controls of punching with the Joy-Cons in your fists.

You won't realize just how intense the workout is while you're playing, much because the gameplay is as absorbing as Ring Fit Adventure's unique RPG and action style. You'll be fighting strong and moving a lot as you dodge, hit, and counter your opponent. It's absolutely a great adventure for those who want a sporty, cartoony adventure to get on your feet for.

4 Sports Party

3 Go Vacation

Go Vacation volleyball gameplay

1 Yoga Master

Yoga Master gameplay with instructor in a pose in a forest

Price: $24.99

Release Date: March 13, 2020

Number of Players: 1 player

Practicing yoga can be for mental and physical purposes that entail decompression and "unplugging". So having a yoga fitness game might seem counter-intuitive, but Yoga Master seeks to pair fitness with relaxation here. The game uses the Switch's Joy-Cons to track player movements as they go through their yoga workouts.

Using 3D environments and a 3D yoga instructor, the game offers many lessons, programs, and yoga poses to choose from, as well as breathing exercises. It's a solid title to pick up if you need some embodied and intentionally mindful moments.
