The massively open world of Red Dead Redemption 2 has a lot to offer - from beautiful landscapes to all-out shootouts. The game comes to life as you travel from town to town, with plentiful wildlife and a whole host of small missions that spawn along your journey from A to B.

With so much to do, it can be hard to decide where to go next. Do you continue the rip-roaring campaign? Do you help a criminal stuck in the middle of nowhere? Do you waste your money and get flat out drunk? Lucky for you, we at The Gamer have compiled a list of the most unique side missions in Red Dead Redemption 2.

10. Famous Gunslingers

One of the first towns you come across in Red Dead Redemption 2 is Valentine, a small town in close proximity to the base camp. In this town, you’ll find a typical Saloon where you can drink away your woes. However, there is also a small bar where you can pick up a fun little side mission.

On entering the bar, you will see a drunkard who has definitely seen better days and a man writing a book. This man will give you photographs of the most famous gunslingers and send you on a quest to find and challenge them.

Prove you’re the best gunslinger in not only town, but the world.

9. Killer Clue

Whilst riding around the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 you’ll take in the stunning environment and seemingly endless scenery. However, every now and then you can make some interesting, sometimes grotesque discoveries.

The side mission Killer Clue follows a gory trail of murder as you track down a serial killer that likes to show off their victims. Are you ready to turn in your cowboy hat for a detective one? Track down the perpetrator of these grisly murders to complete this quest.

8. Aberdeen Pig Farm

Sometimes you’ll stroll onto someone’s property; it’s an honest mistake in the vast plains of Red Dead Redemption 2 which happens quite frequently. Sometimes you’ll be threatened, which is a fair enough response for a stranger wandering onto someone's land. However, some people will invite you into their home out of the kindness of their hearts… or so we think.

In this un-official side mission, when you wander onto Aberdeen Pig Farm you’ll be invited into the house by a lovely couple. This couple will proceed to get you drunk, if you choose to drink, and rob you whilst you’re unconscious. You’ll then have to retrieve your cash with or without force.

7. Arcadia For Amateurs

Probably one of the biggest side missions in Red Dead Redemption 2, Arcadia for Amateurs, follows a photographer named Albert Mason who (for some reason or another) always has bad luck. There are several parts to this side mission which you will encounter as you progress.

These side missions usually take the form of aiding Albert Mason - from stolen bags to creating the best photo-ops. For a light-hearted and character heavy side mission, this one proves there is a lot of character progression even outside the main story.

6. A Bright Bouncing Boy – First Meeting

A Bright Bouncing Boy is a multi-faceted side mission in Red Dead Redemption 2. In this side mission, you meet with Marko Dragic, a professor conducting bizarre experiments. The reason this side quest has two entries is due to the massively different and intriguing tasks in each of the two meetings.

When you first meet Marko Dragic, you will be asked to control a small remote submarine. The goal is to avoid mines and sink ship models in a pond, before they reach the other side. I bet you never expected to be controlling a submarine in Red Dead Redemption 2, even if it is just a small, remote-controlled one. Remember to keep away from the mines and torpedo explosions you set off destroying the model ships!

5. A Bright Bouncing Boy – Second Meeting

Now, on the second meeting with Marko Dragic, you have to complete an entirely different set of tasks in order to complete this part of the side mission.

Marko Dargic will ask you to place lightning conductors in specific locations in a given area. These will light up once you get to the right part of the highlighted area. Once all three are placed and you have returned to Marko Dragic, he will send you up a tower to flip some switches in a specific order. Once you have completed these tasks you get to see the fruits of your labor, which has a very mad scientist twist.

4. A Test of Faith

Not far from base camp in Chapter 2, you’ll run into a woman named Deborah MacGuiness - a shunned paleontologist whose theories have been rejected by the leading universities. MacGuiness explains to Arthur her ideas and career gathering dinosaur bones.

After this encounter, you are given the objective of collecting 30 dinosaur bones for MacGuiness to aid her in her research and career - and to complete this little side mission.

This side mission brings more exotic wildlife into the world of Red Dead Redemption 2. Minding your own business doing cowboy things in Chapter 3, you’ll run into a crashed circus caravan. On discovering this caravan, you will meet a peculiar fellow, Margaret.

Margaret will ask you to track three escaped animals from their circus. These three animals are a zebra, tiger, and lion. Each of these animals has their own separate parts within this side mission, extending the mission out across the map and ending with a hefty reward.

2. The Artist’s Way

Just because Arthur is a rough-and-tumble cowboy does not mean he doesn’t know good art when he sees it. In this side mission, Arthur meets a French man by the name of Charles Chatenay, who he shares a conversational drink with.

This side mission is a simple, pleasant side mission where you get to appreciate your new-found friend's art and help him through the rougher parts of living in American towns.

1. Oh, Brother

A Rockstar game isn’t complete without ridiculous characters and side missions peppered throughout the map. In Red Dead Redemption 2 we get plenty of opportunities to meet the game world’s oddballs.

In the side mission (Oh, Brother), you will have to help two twin brothers win over a woman, named Helen, that they are both fighting over. Over a series of mini-missions, you will have to carry out obscene games and tasks in order to help both twins prove their toughness. Ultimately, you will come to the end of a small tale about two brothers fighting over a woman, and whilst bizarre it’s well worth finishing.
