The Nintendo 64 turns 21 years old this year and even though most of us traded ours in a long time ago, several titles have been recreated into HD variations for multiple Nintendo outlets (3DS, Wii, Wii U, etc). The popularity of the system seems to be reaching all new heights lately, and it stands within reason that next year a Nintendo 64 Classic will be added to the insanely popular (and successful) Classic System lineup.

The Nintendo 64 launched with only two launch titles in the US, Super Mario 64 and Pilot Wings. The insane popularity and success of Mario 64 was enough to combat the only real console competition: Sony’s PlayStation. The Sega Saturn, having released a year earlier, wasn’t considered competition thanks in large part to questionable hardware and lack of games. Needless to say, Nintendo dominated the console market during this time, with popular titles like Mario 64, GoldenEye, and Ocarina of Time.

The real breakout success of the system wasn’t a game, however. Games such as Mario64, GoldenEye, and Ocarina of Time are what the Nintendo 64 will forever be remembered for, but it’s the unique introduction of the single control stick that really made the system standout.

If you still have your old Nintendo 64, or have these titles in various digital formats, then this list is perfect for you! While cheating is never encouraged, classic video game makers loved putting in (sometimes not so) secret codes for gamers to enjoy. Today we take a look at 15 classic cheats you have to try!

15 Infinite Money – Ocarina Of Time

via: Kotaku

Who doesn’t like money? Who wouldn’t want an infinite amount of it while playing one of, if not the best games ever made for the Nintendo 64? The only downside to this beauty of a code is that it requires you to start a new game. But, as soon as you do, name your new game ‘Morup’. Once you receive a gold rupee, infinite money is all yours.

This code is perfect for speedruns, jumping into a new digital release, or for anyone just starting the game for the very first time. It will enable you to buy anything you need throughout your journey, at any part of the game. And with a game that can typically take over 25 hours to complete, why not start out with all the money you’d ever need?

The Legend of Zelda titles for the Nintendo 64 were amazing, so it should be no surprise that each has a featured code on this list. This particular code is, basically, exactly as the title would suggest. You get to play through the game as a super strong, but also super fast, version of Link. And why wouldn’t you want to be an awesome version of Link?

The downside here is that you do have to beat the game successfully once before being able to enter the code. Once you’ve beaten it, start a new game and enter LINKMAN as the file name of your new playthrough. That really can’t be listed as too much of a downside, as why wouldn’t you want to play Majora’s Mask for a second time?

13 Invincibility - GoldenEye

via youtube.com

Being a God in a video game is a blast. Especially when you’re already playing as the world’s most infamous spy, James Bond. GoldenEye revolutionized the concept of first person shooters and was easily one of the most popular games released on the Nintendo 64. With a solid lineup of characters, weapons, and multiplayer maps, everyone wanted to play as Bond. This particular code gives you even more reasons to.

At the file screen, Hold L and Press Down. Hold R and Press C-Right. Hold R and Press C-Up. Hold L and Press Right. Hold L and Press C-Down. Hold R and Press C-Up. Hold L and Press Right. Hold R and Press Down. Hold L and Press Left. Hold L+R and Press C-Right. Doing this exactly right will net you a message letting you know you’ve successfully entered the code.

via youtube.com

Arguably the very best simulation game of its time, SimCity 2000 let players build some of the most amazing and unique cities imaginable. With the ability to quickly start anew or to demolish/rebuild, SimCity 2000 also featured one of the easiest jump-in points in any modern sim game. So, why wouldn’t you want to start out with an already amazing $5 million in funds?

To kick off your millionaire start to the game, make sure to be at the title screen. From there, Press C-Up twice, Press C-Down, Press C-Left twice, Press C-Right twice, Press C-Up, Press C-Right, Press C-Left, Press C-Down, Press Start. Doing so will make you an instant millionaire. Just make sure to use the money wisely in this Japan-only release, as there isn’t another code which will dump more money into your pockets.

11 Different Colors – Pokémon Stadium

via youtube.com

Thanks to Pokémon Go, the Pokémon franchise has received a huge spike in popularity during the last year. One of its initial breakout console successes was the original Pokémon Stadium, a game that let gamers pit their favorite pocket monsters against one another on the Nintendo 64. Technically, the US version is Pokémon Stadium 2 as the original Pokémon Stadium for the Nintendo 64 was only released in Japan. The game ended up selling over one million copies in its first year of release.

Thanks to these fun codes, players can change the color of their ‘mons into some silly colors! The full list uses a Code/Result method and is as follows: Chariblast/Red Charizard, ???Joly???/Green Jolteon, Gyaratoss/Blue Gyrados, TwoTwo/Mewtwo Dark Tail, ?Beedrill?/Green Beedrill, Dig-Dig/Reddish Digglet, Pikachucha/Orange Pikachu, ??Lapras??/Blue Lapras, ?Coolfish?/Green Tentacool, ???Horn???/Blue Rhyhorn, ?Offthing?/Blue Koffing, ???Buzz???/Green ElectraBuzz, Zap Those/Green Zapdos.

10 Zombies – Conker’s Bad Fur Day

via youtube.com

Though the Call of Duty franchise may be the reigning popular title featuring zombie side-action, Conker did it first. Conker’s was definitely aimed at the older console gamers, featuring a plethora of adult content like excessive violence, cursing, and some pretty deplorable/sexual innuendo. Interestingly, the game was originally intended to be more for the kiddies, but initial input declared the title to be too similar to other kid-friendly Rare releases, so the company redesigned the game with adults in mind.

The code only works in multiplayer mode, but that certainly doesn’t take away from its appeal. To enable the code, put in BEEFCURTAINS in the code menu. There’s nothing like hunting zombies, even in classic N64 games! So, what are you waiting for - go off those zombies!

9 Shao Khan – Mortal Kombat Trilogy

The Nintendo64 was home to plenty of fighters, but the one remembered most is the one that rereleased the original three Mortal Kombats. Sure, it might be remembered for lacking all of the content from the original releases, but it’s hard to blame the Nintendo when the cartridge size was the issue. There was just too much glorious Kombat to be crammed in!

In order to get this code to work, you have to fight at one of three locations: The Rooftop, Pit Three, or Khan’s Cave. It doesn’t matter which fighter you choose, the only key part of the code is selection the right local. Once you choose the stage, hold Down + Up + LP, right before the match starts. If you did all that correctly, the Emperor of Outworld is all yours!

8 Symbiote Costume – Spider-Man 64

via youtube.com

The Amazing Spider-Man has sure seen his fair share of video game console releases, dating all the way back to the original Atari. But Spider-Man was one of the early breakout successes, and remained the best Spider-Man game until the 2005 release of Spider-Man 2. One of the things that made Spider-Man so special was the fact that so many codes existed to enable skins of all your favorite Spider-Man variations and characters.

The most popular, without a doubt, is the code that gave gamers the ability to run around New York with Spider-Man wearing his black symbiote costume. It was a distinctive look and one that led to Peter Parker helping create one of his most vile enemies – Venom. To run around with the symbiote on in Spider-Man, enter the Cheat section from the Special options on the main menu. Type in SYMBSPID as your code to the costume. This cheat also enables unlimited webbing!

7 Immunity – Resident Evil 2

via residentevil.wikia.com

Before the film series came along and tainted one of the best horror franchises ever, Resident Evil 2 spooked even the most hardcore of gamers. Not knowing what lurked around the corner or where your next ammo round was going to come from, Resident Evil 2 led gamers down a dark and extremely challenging path. So why not make that path a little easier with complete immunity?

The code should look familiar to just about every console gamer that’s ever touched a Nintendo, in that it shares some pretty obvious traits with the infamous Contra code. It’s not an exact rip-off, of course, but it is a pretty obvious nod to the mother of all codes. To enable immunity in Resident Evil 2, once at the Load Game scene, push Down four times, Right four times, L, R, R, L, C-Up, C-Down.

6 Unlimited Eggs And Feathers – Banjo-Tooie

via pixlbit.com

Banjo-Tooie was the successful sequel to the masterful Banjo-Kazooie (and which also saw a spinoff, in spirit, in the form of Yooka-Laylee). These games forced gamers to perfect jumping, running, and of course – collecting. In Banjo-Tooie, red feathers Kazooie the ability to fly, while gold feathers give them the Wonderwing ability. Obviously, you can’t go wrong with an unlimited amount of these.

The code is actually pretty easy to pull off, all you have to do is head to the Temple located close by to Wumba’s Wigwam, found in the Mayhem Temple. Once there, enter the code CHEATONESTKING. Doing so will not only enable unlimited feathers, but eggs as well! This will help tremendously as you finish out the game.

5 Perfect Balance – Tony Hawk'sPro Skater 2

via gamespot.com

While Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was an instant success, it was the amazingness that was Pro Skater 2 that started the console skating movement of the late 90s and early 2000s. Several publishers got in on the skating genre, but none defined it as well as the Tony Hawk franchise. One of the most frustrating and difficult aspects of the game to master was balance and, with this code, it becomes guaranteed.

But first, a warning: it is possible that entering this code wrong can ruin your saved game. To enable the code, load up your save and once in the game, hit pause. On the pause screen, Press and Hold L, followed by Pressing C-Down, Right, Down, C-Left, C-Down, C-Up, C-Right, C-Left. As long as you did it correctly, the pause screen should shake and returning to your game will net you perfect balance. If something went wrong, your save will be corrupted and you’ll have to start over.

4 Invincibility – Mission Impossible

via youtube.com

Thanks to the popular Tom Cruise movie in the mid-90s, Nintendo nailed a special exclusive with this gem (although it was later ported over to PlayStation). The main character shared an obvious likeness to Cruise and there was the impressive Facemaker gadget, which let you pretend to be other people within the game. The storyline, however, was unique, but it did follow a bizarrely similar path to the film (there’s a NOC list, laser protected terminal, and an ending sequence on a train).

To play through the game with invincibility, just head to the mission select screen and Press R, Z, C-Down, R, and C-Down. You should hear someone say, ‘Ah, that’s better,’ to indicate that you entered the code correctly. Once completed, just load into the game to enjoy being invincible!

3 Excitebike 64 – Night Mode

via youtube.com

A follow-up to one of the best games on the original Nintendo, Excitebike 64 refueled console gamer’s love for motorcycle racing. Excitebike 64 removed the classic arcade feel of the original and instead placed gamers directly behind the driver, plotting their way through fantastic (for the time) 3D levels. It felt like a successor in name only, as it was a totally different experience than what most Excitebike fans were expecting. As such, it didn’t receive great reviews from critics, but it was still a solid release that even featured split-screen for up to four players!

To jazz up the game, use this code to enable Night Mode, which will change the levels to a darker, harder to see experience: head to the Cheat Screen and put in ‘Midnight’.

2 Ultimate Code – Doom 64

via expansionpakdetected.com

It should go without saying that the original Doom for the PC was one of the greatest first person shooters of the 90s. It made complete sense that the game would end up with sequels on consoles, but what was surprising was its release on the Nintendo 64. Nintendo had spent a decade being the family entertainment console and had typically shied away from adult content. However, that all changed with the N64. Like Mortal Kombat and Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Doom was geared at the adult console crowd and it was a massive success.

This cheat code is simple the best in that it gives you access to any level, every weapon and max ammo for them, perfect health coupled with complete invincibility, and access to every map. Just enter ?TJL BDFW BFGV JVVB and you’re good to go!

1 Gargos – Killer Instinct Gold

via youtube.com

Easily one of the most anticipated sequels ever made, Killer Instinct Gold was based on the arcade title Killer Instinct 2 and was a Nintendo 64 exclusive. For the console, players were able to access a new Training Mode, different camera views, and slightly improved graphics. At the time of its release, fans of the fighting genre had multiple games to choose from, but Killer Instinct was always a cult favorite (so much so that it was rebooted four years ago on the Xbox).

Gargos, the final boss of Killer Instinct 2, is a playable character in Gold (and the reboot), but only when using the following code: Press Z, A, R, Z, A, B at the character profile screen during the first story introduction. As long as you entered it right, you’ll hear Gargos’ laugh.
