The most important part of a video game is having fun. Gamers are influenced by massive hype and expectations, so it is important to realize which games are fun and which ones will become boring after a short period of time. Avoiding these dull games are crucial to getting the most out of your purchase.

So, what makes a game lose its appeal in a short time? Games that try to hold your hand too much, are too difficult in the beginning, or are too slow can lead gamers into calling it quits after only playing it for a short time. If you aren’t having fun playing something, why keep going?

Of course, there are other factors as to why games can fail so quickly. Some games can release with game breaking bugs and balance issues that make it no fun to play. A game can also focus solely on gameplay and forget the importance of its story, which can lead to gamers snoozing after their first time playing. Online games a lot of times possess these problems, but it isn’t always online games. Single player games like No Man’s Sky can also bore a player within minutes. This article will list the top 15 popular games you’ll stop playing after 5 minutes. These games are either broken or don’t have enough content to keep a player interested. Don’t make the mistake of buying these games.

15 For Honor

via ubisoft.com

For Honor was released earlier this year and a lot of fans were excited to play this unique game. The game is a hack and slash dueling fighting game. You can duel an opponent one versus one or play four versus four against another team. The idea is fresh, the combat is unique and the gameplay is strong. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much more in the game to keep players engaged. The single player story was only a couple hours long and the game launched to buggy servers and unbalanced characters.

Balance is an issue in For Honor. Players are stuck playing only a handful of characters because the others are not powerful enough. Warden and a few other characters are seen in every game and the combat can become a parry simulator with dozens of shield breaks a game. Hopefully the game sees some change to bring players back in.

14 Mass Effect: Andromeda

via masseffect.com

The first three Mass Effect games were masterpieces. They had incredible stories and fantastic gameplay to keep the players engaged throughout the entire series. Sadly, Mass Effect: Andromeda is not the same as the first three games. The story is less appealing and the gameplay is dumbed down (strategy is almost non-existent now). The story starts off so slow that the player might stop playing after a short time inside the game. Nothing really happens in the beginning, as the story hand holds the player through a few easy missions. Dozens of cut-scenes also bores the player to no end. I didn’t even mention the hundreds of bugs and poor animations inside the game that will deter players from playing. Mass Effect: Andromeda is a step back from the first three in the series.

13 H1Z1: King Of The Kill

via blog.us.playstation.com

H1Z1: King of the Kill is a battle royale-type game where 100 players drop into a map and fight to the death. The concept of battle royale is a cool one, as players loot for guns and run from the incoming gas while killing others to win. However, H1Z1 has problems that will make gamers stop playing after their first time playing.

H1Z1 is home to multiple bugs and connection issues that will make you want to pull your hair out. Players can sometimes die while landing due to a bug or not find any loot because the loot is bugged under the map. This leads to frustration issues and quitting. A game that relies so heavily on multiplayer gameplay shouldn’t be bogged down with bugs.

12 Tom Clancy's The Division

via ubisoft.com

Do you want to do the same thing over and over repeatedly until you don’t even realize you are playing a video game anymore? If so, Tom Clancy’s The Division is the right game for you. The game is based on killing mobs to get loot to get better guns, but there is never any fun mission to use the loot on. Missions consist of killing waves of enemies, and the enemies are bullet sponges; It can take hundreds of bullets to kill one guy.

The story is nothing to get excited about and the game is over too soon. You'll stop playing this after a few minutes because there is nothing to get hooked on. The bad guys in the game are the same and the looting gets boring.

11 Star Wars Battlefront

via http://starwars.ea.com

Star Wars Battlefront had a ton of potential, but it fell flat due to how little content it had. The gameplay was fantastic and the graphics were great, but it got boring fast. One of the reasons the game gets boring is the lack of single player. The multiplayer only aspect can get tedious because there aren’t enough maps and modes to keep players around for long periods of time. It will get boring running around the same place, shooting the same guns. Battlefront had a lot of promise and maybe the sequel can turn the franchise back around, as, right now, Star Wars Battlefront will make you bored after a couple matches. If there was a single player, the game could keep people playing. After all, the story of Star Wars is what matters to most people.

10 Pokémon Sun And Moon

via gameranx.com

The Pokémon games are some of the most popular in the world. Pokémon Sun and Moon is no exception, as the game was one of the top sellers of 2016. However, players found themselves bored of the game in no time. The opening of the game is long and seems to drag on forever. The game holds your hand through a long tutorial that seemingly never ends. When do I get to run around catching my Pokémon?! Sun and Moon will make you stop playing after a few minutes with the dull opening and linear exploration. The game can get great later, but players will still quit early on. Other Pokémon games are more fast paced and interesting. If only there was an option for no tutorial somewhere in the beginning...

9 Destiny

via gamespot.com

The hype train was huge for Destiny. It was going to be one of the best co-op experiences of this generation. Looting, quests, open world gameplay, and a deep story was promised. Sadly, we didn’t get all of that, as the game can be flat out boring. The campaign is short and there are only a handful of missions to do. Sometimes, the player will have to run around and farm materials for hours to craft guns that are good enough for end game. This is boring and made some of the population leave. If the story was fleshed out in a better way with appealing characters, Destiny could have been one of the best games ever made. Instead, the lack of content will make you stop playing.

8 Dead By Daylight

via youtube.com (xpertthief)

Dead by Daylight is a popular horror survival game that was released last year. Four players are found in a small map with one serial killer trying to kill them in brutal ways. The goal is to escape using a bunch of different tactics. The game has great ideas, but it will get boring after a few games. That is all there is in the game. The developers have barely added anything new to the game, so it is not fresh anymore. Turning on generators and running away from killers in the same few maps will get very stale. Only the dedicated players will stick around with this one. Hopefully there is content released in the future that will not make players want to quit so quickly.

7 Hearthstone

via battle.net

Hearthstone will have you bored after a few matches. The card game is fun, but it is a grind to get packs if you don’t want to pay real money. There is some luck inside of the game that will make you stop playing as well, as the game relies too heavily on lucky draws for a skill based game.

Another issue is balance. Some classes become too good and are played in nine out of ten matches. It gets boring playing against the same decks every game and it will make you quit. The fact that you won’t have these cards in the first place will make you stop playing in five minutes. It is a fun card game, but it will make you bored in no time.

6 Stardew Valley

via stardewvalley.net

Stardew Valley is a game that will have a tough time keeping you around. Make your farm, befriend the village, and explore all you want. The problem is that there just isn’t enough things to do. Players won’t understand the point of the game and will get confused, leading to quitting in the first hours of play. The lack of multiplayer options will make people leave and it will make you want more from the game. It could be a fantastic game if there was the option to farm with others. Right now, farming in the game will make you want to quit playing within 5 minutes. The game could become even bigger in the future, so it will be interesting to watch and see what the developers add.

5 Battlerite

via komputerswiat.pl

Battlerite is a top-down multiplayer shooter. The players face off in a small arena in a team based fight to the death. The core gameplay is great and the skills feel amazing, but there isn’t enough to keep people playing. After a few games, you will have played it all and won’t want to return. There is a reason this game has had multiple sales and free weekends on Steam; the population just doesn’t stick around for long. It’s a fun dueling game with friends, but there isn’t anything serious here. Similar games like League of Legends and Heroes of the Storm do better because there are things in the game other than fighting in a small circle. Battlerite will become dull and you will stop playing in no time.

4 Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare

via gamezone.com

Call of Duty is known to keep their population around for long periods of time, but Infinite Warfare is a game that got stale fast. The story has long scenes of nothing in space sometimes and the multiplayer has too much going on. The player won’t able to get into the multiplayer because there are too many things happening at once. What killed me? A random rig ability? Someone jumping in the sky? A killstreak? You will become bored of this game quickly because of its inability to lure the player in with gun mechanics. There are too many futuristic points to the game and that itself will make you stop playing within 5 minutes. If there wasn’t as much jumping and abilities, the game might bring you back for more.

3 Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege

via VG247.com

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege is a 5v5 multiplayer tactical shooter that can get dull quickly. There is no single player and the gameplay is confusing at times. Players will hop into this game wanting a cool shooter with an interesting story. They'll get good gun play, but the story is not there, and there is only one mode! The game gets repetitive and players will want to do something else with their operators. Also, if you don’t have a friend to play with, you will stop playing this right away. Communication is so important that it will lead some to quit in the first 5 minutes if they're not playing with friends. There is fun to be had here (the guns are super fun to use), but it gets tedious playing the same game mode every time.

2 No Man's Sky

via pcmag.com

No Mans Sky was promised to be one of the biggest games of all time. Well, it is big, but there is nothing to do. The hype surrounding it was too much and No Man's Sky turned out to be boring and repetitive. Exploring space can be cool, but not when there is nothing to do on the planets. All you can really do is blow up some asteroids to get resources or kill the occasional alien bad guy. You can only walk around viewing the same types of planets for so long before wanting to never play the game again. Players will most likely quit this game very quickly after realizing there is very little to do. No Man's Sky is just a mining simulator and it is disappointing there is nothing more to it.

1 Pokémon GO

via pokemongolive.com

Pokémon GO was the craze of last summer and the player base dropped off drastically. This is because most people got bored of playing the game in a short amount of time. You will stop playing this game in 5 minutes for this reason, as there just isn’t anything to do. The gyms have stale gameplay with nothing to do in them besides tapping for attacking. The dull battles don’t make the players want to come back for more and the rewards for staying in gyms aren’t good enough. No player versus player battles also heavily took away from the game. Pokémon GO could become every Pokémon Master's dream if they implemented more things to do, but right now it’s not fleshed out enough, even with the raid update. We need more things to do besides catching Pokémon!
