Defunctland, a YouTube web series that explores the history of discontinued amusement parks and amusement park attractions, has released a build of Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea: Submarine Voyage ride. Available in both a VR and Non-VR version, the VR version is compatible with Oculus, Vive, Index, and Oculus Quest with the link cable.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Submarine Voyage was a popular attraction at the Magic Kingdom theme park at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida from 1971 through 1994. The 20-minute submarine ride through a lagoon filled with sea life and mermaids was taken aboard a fleet of passenger vehicles inspired by Harper Goff's Nautilus design for the 1954 Disney live-action film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Disney Imagineer George McGinnis.

The hulls were constructed by Morgan Yachts in Clearwater, Florida, and finished at Tampa Ship in Tampa, Florida. When they were first delivered to Walt Disney World in August 1971, the vehicles weighed nearly forty tons, and were installed into a concrete guide. Guests were seated at the back of the submarine where they listened to the narration in the voice of Captain Nemo.

The diving sequence began when hundreds of air bubbles filled the porthole view, replicating the illusion of descent. Below water, guests were guided by the Captain through the underwater plains around Vulcania where they could observe moray eels, crabs, lobsters, sea bass, clams, turtles and tropical fish.

Although the attraction was a guest favorite, it was incredibly expensive to maintain and was closed on September 5, 1994. Although Defunctland VR is not affiliated with The Walt Disney Company, the VR project contains copyrighted works that are protected by federal law and the "fair use" doctrine for the purposes of research, preservation, and education. The build for the VR version that is compatible with Oculus, Vive, Index, and Oculus Quest with the link cable can be downloaded here.
