Welcome back to theGamer! I hope you have been enjoying our articles filled with facts and interesting trivia of your favorite popular culture properties in and outside of the gaming world. With the Dragon Ball Super series in full swing, let's talk a little bit more about one of the most popular franchises out of Japan. For over three decades, the Dragon Ball franchise has remained immensely popular even during periods where there weren't any Dragon Ball-related animation on television or manga in the bookstores. Thanks to Dragon Ball-related video games and merchandise, fans have been able to get their fill of Akira Toriyama's brainchild many years after the GT series ended.

Ever since the beginning of Dragon Ball Z, the eternal rivalry between Goku and Vegeta has been one of the major talking points among fans. There are Goku fanboys and girls, and there are equally the same amount of Vegeta fanboys and girls. No matter what side of the fence you are on, their rivalry has been a cornerstone of most Dragon Ball-related media.

Some might call them the original Naruto versus Sasuke. But here at theGamer, we just call them “classic." Here are 25 silly Dragon Ball Memes about Goku versus Vegeta. May their rivalry bring you joy and laughter.

25 Undefeated

Though Vegeta has never gotten the better of his eternal rival Goku, it can also be said that Goku hasn't ever beaten Vegeta. This could be the case of Goku not wanting to kill the Saiyan prince, but it does speak volumes of just how powerful Vegeta really is. No other character has kept pace in terms of power levels with Goku other than Vegeta. Over the course of the original Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball Super, Goku has surpassed Tien, Krillin, King Piccolo, Piccolo Jr, the Ginyu Force, Gohan, and others. Yet, Vegeta has seemingly been mirroring Goku's growth in strength throughout the entire duration. This just is a testament to the Saiyan's fighting prowess.

24 Cheap Shot

via memecdn

Is that a cheap shot at Vegeta? Oh, that joke does burn a little for the Saiyan prince. While Goku might never really joke about Vegeta's power level, some fans will certainly bring this topic up for discussion. As the series has gone on, even though Goku appears to get the bulk of the heroic moments, Vegeta does appear to be not far behind in terms of power level. If you omit Gods like Beerus and Whis, Vegeta is probably the second most powerful character in Universe 7. Taking that in mind, Vegeta's power level is anything but joke-worthy. This isn't Yamcha we are talking about. At least, I am pretty sure that he won't take it as a joke. He doesn't seem like the joking type, anyway

23 Comparing Childhoods

via twitter

Not much is explained about Vegeta's childhood other than the idea that he was conquering planets for Frieza during his formative years. Goku has certainly had his fair share of adventures battling a lot of martial artists and demons while growing up. While both of their lives are anything but typical, it does appear that Goku got the benefit of an adoring public, including being the center of attention from much older females, such as Bulma teasing him with glances of her undergarments every now and then. We might have to take into consideration that the original Dragon Ball was meant to be a parody of the classic tale Journey to the West with Akira Toriyama's famous humor and twists. Still, it appears as though Vegeta had the less glamorous childhood despite being Saiyan royalty.

22 Only On Nintendo

via memecdn

Oh, will we ever see the day that Vegeta finally gets the best of Goku? Is there such a thing as a moral victory? Will any of these questions get answered in Dragon Ball Super? In this comic, Vegeta earns his much deserved victory over his lifetime rival. Unfortunately, it was earned at a video game, which looks a lot like something on the Super Nintendo. It was probably one of those 2D Dragon Ball Z games during the 16-bit generation, like Butoden or something like that. Outside of Vegeta's gaming prowess, the Saiyan prince has yet to defeat Goku in “real life” in a battle nor in terms of power levels. Will we see that day? Maybe, but don't count on it.

21 Fusion Problem

via memecenter

Vegeta didn't seem to like the idea of fusing with Goku very much. Heck, he even crushed those Potara earrings just so they wouldn't be together again. Is that more than a slight over-reaction? However, when a powerful villain threatens the world, the universe's most powerful Saiyans must fuse together once again to even the odds. Now, it might be obtuse to perform a fusion with another man, but this Meme does give us some food for thought. As of this moment, there hasn't been a cross-gender fusion as a part of Dragon Ball canon. But with series like Dragon Ball Fusions and Dragon Ball Heroes, that could be something planned in the near future.

20 He's A Clown

via imgflip

While we all marvel at the power and prowess of Goku, especially since he finally became a Super Saiyan during the Frieza Saga, Vegeta probably doesn't view his storied rival with the same amount of awe and amazement. This is not to say that Vegeta doesn't respect Goku, but the Saiyan prince often voices his displeasure with Goku's childish antics and carefree demeanor. Indeed, a lot of Goku's naive nature is the source of a lot of Vegeta's anger, with the other part being the idea that he is constantly one step ahead in terms of power and transformation at every given turn. This is probably the reason Vegeta embraced evil once again to overtake his rival during the Majin Buu Saga. Still, Kakarot is a big-time clown.

19 Majin Puff

via memecenter

I never quite knew why everyone under the Majin influence had that M mark on their forehead. Well, everyone except for Majin Buu. It was probably a simple indicator to show that character as evil. When Vegeta embraced that evil power, he also had that unmistakable M on his forehead. As a child, I remember that moment shocked me like no other. Vegeta is once again a villain. What a twist. This Meme just tries to explain how Vegeta got that M on his face. Perhaps it is from a Sharpie marker used by that angry little Jigglypuff who keeps putting everyone to sleep with her lullaby. If I was to put a bet on someone, it would be that little pink ball of fluff.

18 Talk About 9000

via imgflip

Perhaps one of the most popular Memes in Dragon Ball history, the topic about the power level being over 9000 is probably comparable to the often misquoted Star Wars line: “Luke, I am your father." Sure, it might be misquoted in its initial run, but the legacy of this infamous scene lives on. But do you really remember who Vegeta and Nappa were talking about that fateful day? It's Kakarot, of course! Yes, the commotion was all about how a lowly Saiyan could achieve such a vast amount of power in such a short time, especially since he was dominated against his brother Raditz in a fight not too long ago. Thanks to all those talks about training and Zenkai, Goku was able to become a God among everyone else, including even Vegeta.

17 Enough Already!

via pinterest

If Vegeta was a real person in the real world, he would surely get that “It's Over 9000!” joke told to him by anyone and everyone who ever encountered him in public. Come to think of it, that phrase doesn't even count as a joke. I am pretty sure that's what happened to the guy who portrayed Steve Urkel (Jaleel White) in Family Matters, and people asking him to say his catchphrase, “Did I do that?” After a while, it gets pretty infuriating. Could you imagine if TMZ tailed Vegeta with a camera and a microphone? Honestly, there is a likely possibility that he is going to hurt some paparazzi. Even after several decades, all these jokes about it being over 9000 has not left the mind of the poor Saiyan prince.

16 Feuding Wives

via badasssuperbuu

Indeed, the rivalry of Goku and Vegeta is what keeps a lot of storylines in Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super a little bit interesting. When you get right down to it, it is just an anime with a whole lot of action against super powerful bad guys over and over again. Lather, rinse, and repeat. Perhaps the rivalry between Bulma and Chichi is what fans should really get excited about. Though they are vastly different than their childhood incarnations from the original Dragon Ball series, both Chichi and Bulma have bore the burden of raising their Saiyan-hybrid warrior children and keeping their husbands in check. Their outward appearances might be different, but their internal fires burn brightly.

15 Cooperation When Necessary

via pinterest

As much as they are rivals and appear to be at odds with each other, Goku and Vegeta are probably the Earth's (and now Universe 7's) greatest protectors and heroes. Though they were on the opposite sides on several occasions, the two most powerful Saiyans are constantly joining forces in order to deal with greater evils, such as the battling the powerful Mecha Cooler, the resurrected Golden Frieza, and the combination of Zamasu and Goku Black. When it comes down to saving the world, these two will let bygones be bygones and team up for the greater good. You have to admit that seeing Vegito once again in Dragon Ball Super was probably the coolest thing you have seen in an anime all year. Hopefully, they will be battling side by side for years to come.

14 A Level Above

via deviantart (newsuperdannyzx)

Doesn't it seem like Goku is always a level above Vegeta? Probably because it is true. It does seem like Goku achieves certain forms and transformations before Vegeta ever could. Then Vegeta just plays catch up with Goku. It has been that way from the moment that Goku became a Super Saiyan up until the current Dragon Ball Super episodes. Just when Goku was showing off his Super Saiyan 3 form once again in Dragon Ball Super, he somehow found a way to reach the Super Saiyan God transformation. This was when Vegeta couldn't even achieve the Super Saiyan 3 form, himself. Well, eventually the proud Saiyan prince did catch up to Goku, but now that Goku has found the new instinct mode, Vegeta will be trying to pick up the pace yet again.

13 Is It Hair Dye?

via pinterest

Remember when Vegeta quipped during the Frieza Saga that he has become a Super Saiyan? What a bunch of crock that was. Even after a tremendous Zenkai boost, Vegeta was still ill-equipped to battle Frieza in his further transformations. The Super Saiyan was finally achieved by his rival Goku after seeing the death of Krillin. Ever since that moment, Vegeta has been one step behind the entire Dragon Ball Z and Super series. Perhaps the only way that the Saiyan prince could become a Super Saiyan was through the use of some Loreal bleach and dye. Well, at least Goku was once a false Super Saiyan, himself. At the end, both Saiyans are able to go through as many hair color changes as they well please without the usage of harsh chemicals.

12 The Saiyan Greeting

via quickmeme

As part of their secret handshake, Saiyans don't high five each other, they just punch each other in the face. We have learned throughout the series that the Saiyans live to fight. They get more powerful by fighting and through their special attribute of Zenkai, where they can get a huge power boost if they recover from a near-death (and sometimes death) experiences. Goku and Vegeta have fought each other on many occasions, but the one time where it held much weight was during the Majin Buu Saga when Vegeta embraces the Majin influence in order to finally defeat Goku. This part of the story shows exactly how much Vegeta wants to beat Goku, even at the cost of his soul and autonomy.

11 That's Old News

via pinterest

Remember those old Dragon Ball cartoons? They were quite devious weren't they. If you are a fan of Akira Toriyama-related works such as the original Dragon Ball and Dr Slump, then you are probably aware of the childish jokes and toilet humor that ran rampant throughout these series. This was during a time when Bulma used her physical appeal to try to entice people like Master Roshi to do her bidding. Of course, this power didn't work on the very naive Goku, who would rather not catch a glimpse of Bulma's nasty bloomers. Even as an adult, Goku would probably not want to see any more of Bulma, as I am pretty sure he got his fill of the blue-haired deviant during his childhood.

10 Yeezy Says

via instagram

Everyone remembered that moment during the VMAs when Kanye West took that microphone and moment away from Taylor Swift, right? This is the same man who has found himself in viral videos on several occasions, including that little tirade about former-President George Bush in that post-hurricane fundraiser many years ago that got even Austin Powers uncomfortable. This is a man with a lot of opinions including this “fan-made” one, as well. This Meme certainly shows Yeezy at his very best, even getting the Saiyan prince to cry. When Vegeta claims that he is the prince of all Saiyans, Kanye responds that Goku is the God of all Saiyans, which is also correct. Don't cry, Vegeta. You eventually become a God, too.

9 Child Abuse

via memecdn

Was Goku just toying around with Vegeta, even after the latter got a substantial power boost with the aid of Majin power? Indeed, on most occasions when the two Saiyans fight each other, Goku might be looking not to critically-injure or kill Vegeta. So, what happens when the child Trunks quips that his dad is actually weaker than Goku? Well, Vegeta does what a good Saiyan father would do, and that is involve himself in a little bit of Earthly child abuse, Adrian Peterson style. Given that Vegeta will probably not win father of the year, this moment will assuredly prove that he is almost as bad a father figure as Goku, who is the worst dad in the history of Dragon Ball.

8 Just A Joke

via memedroid

Oh, how Vegeta is the hind of many jokes about never being able to be a Super Saiyan 3. The biggest jab to Vegeta is that he was never able to achieve that level. You might say that he attained that transformation in several video game appearances, but those are not canonical. So, what seems to be more appropriate to joke about than a shot about how the Saiyan prince was never able to be in the Super Saiyan 3 form? Hey, Vegeta. Want to hear a joke? It is not going to be pretty. At least, he was able to attain higher forms such as the Super Saiyan God transformation in Dragon Ball Super and Super Saiyan 4 in Dragon Ball GT. Both series do not show him ever attaining the Super Saiyan 3 transformation, unfortunately.

7 Oh, My Pride

via pinterest

As the character who will avenge the Saiyan race, Vegeta never does get the better of the villain Frieza. This might be an accepted fact, but given who Frieza has lost to throughout the years, then it should make Vegeta cry a little bit and hurt his Saiyan pride in the process. Seemingly, a whole bunch of characters have beaten Frieza, including Vegeta's rival Goku, the grown-up future version of his son, an adult Gohan, and even that guy who looks a little like a big-lipped Piccolo, named Pikkon. Vegeta did seem to get the chance to avenge the death of his father and his planet in the climax of the Resurrection of F, but the writers wouldn't let him be the hero, even in Dragon Ball Super. Shame on them.

6 Selfishness

via pinterest

As part of a filler story in Dragon Ball Super, the heroes end up fighting the liquid weapon known as Commeson when they arrive on Planet Potaufeu. The weapon was able to create powerful duplicates that continued to drain the Ki of the original, including one of Vegeta that Goku was having trouble defeating. In a moment of absolute truth, Vegeta claims that he is on his own side, of course. Given that the Saiyan is extremely prideful and narcissistic, he wanted his copied form to defeat Goku in battle to prove his superiority. However, the core of the weapon ends up being sealed, and the copies disappear just as the Commeson loses effect. There isn't much weight to be held during this filler episode, but it does show the arrogant nature of Vegeta, quite well.
