The Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition 2020 is chock full of amazing and unbelievable records in gaming. Today we're taking a look at the most impressive speedrun records of all time.

These runs aren't about cheesing the levels or finding a glitch that lets you skip the whole game. These records were set by the most dedicated players who grinded their butts off to shave fractions of nanoseconds of their time until they were the fastest players on the world. Speedrunning is as much skill as it is art, and these players are the Renaissance painters of speedrunning.

Fastest Any% Run of Crash Bandicoot (2017)

Crash Bandicoot was a hard game when it was orignially released in 1998, and the re-release as part of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy stayed just as hard, though it switched up a few minor things that has speedrunners actually going a bit slower than its classic cousin.

That didn't stop DepCow from figuring out every little way he could to improve his time, making the entire game look like a breeze.

Fastest Any% Run of Secret of Mana Co-Op

Getting one person to whisk there way through a near-perfect run of a game is one thing, but getting three people to work together on the same screen while sprinting through a co-op action RPG is another feat entirely.

Yagamoth, BOWIEtheHERO and StingerPA are the only trio of gamers to make it through the Square SNES classic Secret of Mana at a time that even comes close to the single-player world records of the same game.

The team finished the game in just 1 hour, 45 minutes and 59 seconds. The next-fastest co-op run was more than half an hour longer, clocking in at 2 hours, 16 minutes and 24 seconds.

Fastest Any% Run of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is supposed to take players through hours of varied missions as they slowly make their way up the ladder of the titular city's underbelly, gradually unlocking more and more of the Miami-inspired locale as they progress.

But it turns out the PS2 classic is very glitchy, and it's possibly to bypass almost the entire game by a convoluted series of events that includes running through walls, restarting the game, and  stealing a police car.

It's a bit hard to really understand what's happening, much less how the record-holders figured out the nonsensical actions required to make such a quick run. But it's impressive in its own right.

RoK_24 is listed in the Guiness World Reecords 2020 edition as having beaten the game in 8 minutes 38 seconds, but since the book went into print, speedrunner guywith managed to beat that record by 3 seconds with a record time of 8 minutes 35 seconds.

Fastest Tofu Survivor Run in Resident Evil 2 Remake

The 2019 Resident Evil 2 remake is a slow-paced, horror-filled experience in which it's possible to play as a giant brick of tofu armed only with a knife and few herbs. It's also possible to beat the tofu-themed mode in less time than it takes to take a shower.

This record, accomplished by U.S.-based speedrunner xXAlucard in April 2019, has the oddly-limber brick of soy dancing its way around zombies, lickers, and Mr. X as he makes it through the apocalyptic corridors without even getting a scratch on him.

xXAlucard beat the mode in just 7 minutes 17 seconds, using tricks that require perfect timing and manipulating the camera angle to pull off effectively.

Fastest Any% Super Mario Bros Run

The original Super Mario Bros. is still the best-selling Mario game of all time, though I get the feeling that the majority of its 40.24 million players never actually beat King Koopa and saved Princess Toadstool (yes, that's what they originally called those characters in the U.S. and no, I don't know why.)

It turns out it takes less than five minutes to beat the game, if you're lucky, persistent, and more than a little insane. At time of print, Guinness listed somewes' record-breaking run of 4 minutes 55.796 seconds as "almost perfect," and they were right to say "almost." A few months later, tavenwebb2002 beat that record by a mere .05 seconds with a time of 4 minutes 55.746 seconds.
