After thinking her brother was safe from the Inquisition, Amicia de Rune must once again protect her brother Hugo from new dangers in A Plague Tale: Requiem. Although the siblings managed to evade the Inquisition and defeat Nicholas, a new danger emerged.

Following the close call with the crazed townspeople, the de Rune family must find another haven. Beatrice knows of a town nearby that can house the family as they continue to plan how they can live peacefully. Newcomers is the second chapter in A Plague Tale: Requiem, and this walkthrough will analyze how to make your way through it.

New Town

The chapter opens with the de Rune family arriving in a new town. Still shaken up from their encounter at the castle and on the road, the de Rune family is hoping for better luck.

Beatrice will ask Amicia to explore the area with Hugo on their way to their new house. There will be plenty of vendors near the entrance you can interact with and even try a piece of meat.

Continue heading along the path, and you’ll enter a square with a man reading off the daily news. Keep walking straight, and Amicia will say she can spot the house’s roof.

Walk through the merchants, and you’ll find some wine that your father enjoyed when he was alive and other vendors trying to sell you goods or haircuts. Hugo will speak to a florist near the marketplace exit and say how much he loves what she has.

There will be a split path after you leave the florist. The path to the right will have a carnival game at the end that will task you with knocking down as many cubes as possible with four shots.

Succeeding in the game will unlock a souvenir, which are special moments found in the game that flesh out a bit more character development.

After jamming out to the concert for a bit, Amicia and Hugo will find Lucas, and he’ll lead you to your new home.

Search For Vaudin

Now that you’ve found the house, it’s time for a well-earned rest. Unfortunately, there’s no such thing as “rest” for the de Rune family.

Hugo suffers a nightmare, and it’s clear the Macula in his blood is affecting him. Beatrice asks Amicia to find Magister Vaudin, a member of the Order, and Lucas agrees to help Amicia search the town for Vaudin.

The pair head into town, and Lucas asks a guard about Vaudin and directs him to the florist. Walk down the path and veer to the left to find the florist that you spoke to earlier with Hugo. When you talk to the florist again, she tells Amicia to find her husband near the fountain and that he’s wearing a brown tunic.

Keep walking down the path you’re on, and you’ll eventually find him racking leaves. When asked where to find Vaudin, he’ll tell you to check the arena district.

At the end of the path, you’ll see two guards blocking the entrance and telling you the arena is closed. Amicia and Lucas will notice the mark of the Order on the arena wall and find a side entrance down the path to the right.

Bodies Everywhere

Amicia and Lucas immediately notice something is wrong when you enter the arena. Dead bodies are lined up everywhere throughout the arena of people affected by the Bite.

The pair hadn’t seen the effects of the Bite for some time and thought the disease was eradicated. Continue heading through the arena until you find another Order mark above a door. Enter the room, and you’ll see an opening above you. Use the cart in the room to the right so Amicia and Lucas can climb up and reach the opening.

After you crawl underneath the blockage, there will be a soldier harassing someone.

  • Carefully walk past them and head down the stairs to an area with tall grass.
  • Pick up the pots nearby and use them to distract the soldier in the middle of the pathway.
  • Walk down the path and turn right to go through a doorway to a room with two windows.
  • Wait for the men to move outside, or you can use rocks or pots to distract them and exit the room.
  • Climb the ledge and open the door to jump into another hallway lined with corpses.

At the end of the hall, a ledge will lead you back inside, but it’s too high to climb up. There will be a half cart past the pig that you’ll need to climb up the ledge. Use your slingshot to break the latch and drop the cage full of bodies onto the cart for you to reach the ledge.

Climb up and run down the hall to find a board that looks like someone was keeping track of the dead bodies. Remove the knife and crawl underneath the opening and exit the door to emerge back outside. Drop down from the ledge, and several soldiers will be patrolling the area, and an archer will be randomly shooting arrows.

Here Come The Rats

You don’t have the offensive capabilities of winning a fight head-on with the soldiers, so you’ll need to maneuver carefully through the area. The archer can spot you very well from his perch, so utilize the structures around you for cover.

There are pots in the area for you to use to distract the guards as well. There are multiple ways for you to move forward, so choose the least resistant. Try sticking to the righthand side where only two guards are patrolling, and you can use the pots to distract them.

Wait for the archer to look elsewhere and quickly reach the door. Even if an enemy sees you, you won’t be attacked once you start the door animation.

Walk through the hordes of dead bodies and climb the stairs to reach another door. You’ll arrive on a wooden ledge that’s overlooking the entire city. In the distance, Amicia and Lucas will see a massive tower with the Order symbol.

When you drop down from the ledge, the platform will collapse from the weight of both Amicia and Lucas. Millions of rats will begin chasing Amicia and Lucas and they’ll start crashing through the walls when you try to shut them out.

Use the torch to safely walk through the sea of rodents and light other flammable objects to drive the rats away. Eventually, you’ll reach a ledge where you need to leave the torch on a wall, but there will be sticks on the other side that you can ignite.

Sticks will burn faster, but if you walk swiftly enough, you shouldn’t worry about it going out in the middle of the rats.

  • Take the first stick and reach the brazier.
  • Light the brazier and use another stick to repeat the same process for the next one.
  • Next, light another stick and throw it at the hanging brazier to light it.
  • Then, use your slingshot to break the latch, and the light will swing closer to the ladder, allowing you to climb up.
  • Continue walking across a beam, but Lucas will fall, and you’ll become separated.
  • Amicia will find another stick and light the brazier on the path, then throw another lit stick to the other side to light the brazier to help Lucas.

Once he reaches the top, he’ll ask for Amicia to throw him another stick so he can make his way back to Amicia.

Crafting Ignifer

Walk down the steps, and you’ll be back in a hallway that’s full of dead bodies. The end of the hall will be a chamber with an elephant skull on the ground.

Head up the steps on the side to reach the crank. Spin the crank with Lucas, and the rooms to either side will open up; unfortunately, the gates will also open, and a flood of rats will enter the chamber. Amicia will need to explore the rooms on either side of the crank to find ingredients to light the brazier.

In the room to the left, you’ll find a ladder. When you reach the top, tell Lucas to use the crank to lift the elevator. Run to the other side to pull the cart back over to the elevator. Tell Lucas to release the elevator and pull the cart to the other platform to climb up and open the chest to find Sulphur.

Exit this room and make your way to the other one opposite the crank. Before interacting with the right side wall, use your slingshot to shoot the hanging cow for the rats to clear the area below. There will be another cow hanging to shoot down to clear the remaining rats. Jump down the ledge and climb the ladder to find Alcohol to finish crafting Ignifer.

Escape The Arena

With Alcohol and Sulphur, you can now craft Ignifer. Head up the ladder and Lucas will tell you how to mix the Ignifer. Open the weapon wheel to craft Ignifer and use it with your slingshot to shoot the brazier in the center of the room.

The rats will clear out from the center chamber, allowing you to climb down to the bottom area. Use your slingshot with the Ignifer to light the brazier in the now open gate. Open the chest for more crafting resources.

Use your slingshot and Ignifer again to light up the torch on the wall, and then combine Ignifer with a pot to clear out the remaining rats. The pot will temporarily create a large area with fire to allow you to cross safely.

Now underneath the torch, use your sling to break the latch of the hanging cow for the rats to devour. There’s a chest in between the cages with additional resources. Quickly head up the stairs, and you’ll find the first crank. Tell Lucas to stay at the crank, so you’re able to head to the other side.

Jump down the ledge and run across to the newly open area. Use your sling and Ignifer to light the brazier and open the chest for more resources. You’ll see a ladder at the end of the room, but the rats will be blocking the way.

Break the latch on the hanging brazier and light the brazier to clear some of the rats. Next, use a pot with Ignifer to clear the remaining rats and climb the ladder to reach the second crank.

Avoid The Guards

Spin the cranks, and the center brazier will fully come to the ground. When you release the cranks, the center platform will begin to raise back up. Quickly sprint to the platform and climb the stairs to be back outside.

Amicia and Lucas will see the tower with the Order symbol a bit closer now. Continue walking through the destruction, and you’ll stumble upon a flower for Hugo’s collection, the Arrowhead.

  • Head down the stairs and double back to find a chest, then keep moving forward.
  • Before you head down to the right, run up the stairs and climb the ladder to reach a bridge.
  • Across the bridge will be another chest with resources and a knife to the side.
  • Return to the path below and move the wooden board to squeeze your way through.
  • Run forward, and you’ll find tall grass to hide from the lurking enemies.
  • Quickly move from each patch to avoid Arnaud’s men.

You’ll overhear a pair of them saying that Vaudin is in the tower. Walk back around the back building to find a ledge that will take you to the upper right side. Pots and other resources are inside the houses if you need to stock up before climbing up.

Head down the stairs, and there will be a pile of sticks. This part can be tricky because one guard is patrolling inside the house in front of you, one guard patrolling to the left, and an archer up top.

Return Home

Patiently wait until you can make a move inside the house. When you exit, rats will begin to burrow from the ground, which makes having that stick important.

Light the stick and move to the right and run up the stairs. Another guard will be patrolling the area, but you can hide behind the railings for cover.

Continue heading toward the right, and there will be a pot on a shelf. Use the pot with Ignifer to clear the rats below and then drop from the ledge. There will be an archer overlooking the area that you can shoot with your slingshot.

Walk around the torches to arrive back on the main path and spot two unlit braziers. Light both of the braziers to clear the rats, but you’ll need to use a pot with Ignifer to fully clear the way to the door.

After closing the door, Amicia tells Lucas how Hugo always worried that the rats would return and how she worried about him. Once the cutscene is over, walk down the hall to find a set of iron bells with planet symbols on them.

You need to use your slingshot to hit the bells, so they’re in the correct order: Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Venus, and Mercury. After setting the correct order, the side entrance will open. Head up the stairs, and you’ll find Magister Vaudin.

The Magister explains that Amicia is the Carrier’s Protector, and she plays a great role in the Order. She tells him that Macula has returned, and Vaudin agrees to help Hugo.
