While not a lot is known yet about the show, it will take place in the game’s setting of Medieval France. The show will also utilize French talent to keep an authenticity to the adaptation.News of this adaptation comes courtesy of Eurogamer. According to them, the option of adapting the game through American production companies was quickly dismissed. Instead, the show will stick close to its Bordeaux roots, where the game’s developer is based.While no production scheduling or casting has been revealed yet, French director Mathieu Turi has announced his involvement with the series. The director, who was the assistant director on Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds, took to Twitter to share the good news. “It’s official!”, he wrote in a post earlier this week. “I’m honored to work on the adaptation as a TV series of A Plague Tale. Thank you to Asobo Studio and Focus Entertainment for their trust. I can’t wait to bring Amicia and Hugo’s journey to the screen!”.
A Plague Tale: Innocence initially launched back in 2019 as a digital-only title. The game tells the story of siblings Amicia and Hugo in 14th century France. The duo is forced to survive a landscape filled with plague-inducing hordes of rats.
While the indie game did not receive a lot of fanfare in terms of its marketing and advertisement, the title turned out to be a success for the studio. It received rave reviews from players and publications alike, which called the game a breath of fresh air. The game became so popular that it received a physical release last year and a sequel is currently set for release later this year.
This television adaptation joins a long list of upcoming video game-based series. Paramount+ is releasing a Halo show later this month while HBO is currently filming a Last of Us adaptation. It will be interesting to see how all of these shows turn out.
