Tiger Electronics - a subsidiary of Hasbro - was a powerhouse in the electronics industry during the 90s. They are best known for their handheld gaming systems with LCD screens. Each handheld has a static backdrop with graphics that move on top with games such as The Little Mermaid, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Hasbro brought back the handhelds last year and the fans of the nostalgic retro consoles were elated, so much so that one modder turned one into a portable emulator.

Mark Ghirardi runs Marky Pi Gaming and often mods various consoles and handhelds, including a color changing Game Boy Zero. And recently, two Tiger handhelds - Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and X-Men - were turned into emulators.

In a video uploaded to their Instagram a few months ago, Marky can be seen playing Crash Bandicoot on a handheld for X-Men. In response to a comment asking how changing the games was possible, Ghirardi responded with “Running off RaspberryPi zero w computer now!” - letting us know the insides have been completely removed from the original handheld.

In a more recent video, a newly modded Power Rangers handheld can be seen with Power Rangers: Wild Force before Ghirardi scrolls through showing all the other consoles that can be played on the device.

And it’s not only handhelds that are getting modded. A resort in Toyko recently changed their restaurant to have a Super Sentai theme. Most of the Power Rangers series have followed the Super Sentai series.

In other Habro news, their con - Hasbro Pulse Con - will be held Friday, October 22 and Saturday, October 23, 2021 and will be available for fans in the United States, Canada and the UK only. Hasbro recently released a 20 second clip to their YouTube channel, which is also where the actual event will be livestreamed. The video revealed the hosts for Hasbro Pulse Con 2021: Jackie Jennings - SYFY Wire on-air correspondent and producer - and Khleo Thomas - actor and influencer.
