As Resident Evil 2 slowly approaches its one year anniversary, it seems that Capcom has decided to potentially release additional content for the game.

The information comes after a Steam update added a new achievement for Resident Evil 2.  Players who managed to notice the achievement after the update stated that the image had a Japanese character on it, which roughly translates to "placeholder." On top of that, the name/title for the achievement reads "EN_name" (or reportedly, the first two letters of a player's language like RU for Russian for example).

This is not the only discovery fans managed to uncover, however. Those who know their way around the Steam Database were able to notice that the game was updated with new branches and codes over the past days. Piecing the provided information together may very well hint that the game might receive additional content in the future.

There is also the possibility that the update is nothing more than a generic bug fix. Perhaps Capcom has decided to take care of a few issues that are still present in the game, and is preparing for an update. As for the supposed achievement, it could be seen as a possible glitch or byproduct of the planned update.

Resident Evil 2 initially released on January 11, 2019 to critical acclaim and positive feedback from players and reviewers alike. The game itself is a full-on remake of the original version that released in 1998, but with modern graphics, gameplay elements, and the removal of a fixed camera angle for a third-person viewer.

Aside from releasing a complete remake (which does feel like a whole new game), Capcom has also released a free DLC update one month later. Known as "Ghost Survivors," the DLC is a "what if" scenario for some of the minor characters that players meet in Raccoon City. Each one has a short story, but does introduce new mechanics and new enemies.

With how successful Resident Evil 2 proved to be, there might be a good chance that Capcom will release a full-on remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, something that fans of the series have been asking for ever since Resident Evil 2 released.
