Even after you roll credits for the first time, your adventure doesn't stop there. There are ten endings you can unlock, all requiring specific conditions and stipulations, ranging from straightforward to grueling and complex.

Updated September 24, 2023, by Sean Murray: Looking for every ending in Afterimage? We've got you covered. We've also updated this guide with links to other Afterimage topics that you might find helpful.

All Renee Endings

Renee from Afterimage posing as she summons a mask in her hand.

Renee is the main character of Afterimage and has three endings total, with one being crucial to gain access to the game's New Game Plus mode, which we will cover a bit later in the guide.

However, before we dive into all of Renee's endings, you will need to find three Memory Shards for some of them, which you can learn more about with the table below!

All Memory Shard Locations

Memory Shard 1

Obtained automatically during the story when speaking to Aros in Misty Waters.

Memory Shard 2

North of the Darkfeather boss in Albedo Tower.

Memory Shard 3

Found northeast of the Frozen Veins' Confluence.

The Homecoming Ending

Renee defeating Guider for The Homecoming ending in Afterimage

Her first ending involves you heading to the Sunken Sanctum zone and interacting with the device at the bottom of the area, triggering a boss encounter against Guider, the Shadow Moon. Defeating them will grant you The Homecoming ending!

The Cradle Ending

Guider attacking Renee after she's defeated for The Cradle ending in Afterimage

The second ending has you follow the same steps, except when you reach the device at the bottom of the Sunken Sanctum zone, you must insert one to two Memory Shards before encountering Guider, the Shadow Moon.

Defeating Guider will result in a different ending for Renee, known as The Cradle, but there is one more ending you can get for her, which is the most crucial one.

The Essential Ending

Renee attacking another Renee for The Essential ending in Afterimage

Renee's final ending is The Essential and has you follow the same steps as the previous ones, except you must insert all three Memory Shards into the device found at the bottom of the Sunken Sanctum before your fight with Guider, the Shadow Moon.

After besting Guider, you will be met with a fight against another boss we will avoid naming due to spoilers. But be warned, this encounter is extraordinarily challenging and will give you a run for your money, so be prepared. If you emerge victorious here, you will get this ending!

Memory Shard Locations

Memory Shard 1

Obtained automatically during the story when speaking to Aros in Misty Waters.

Memory Shard 2

North of the Darkfeather boss in Albedo Tower.

Memory Shard 3

Found northeast of the Frozen Veins' Confluence.

The Wall Ending

Renee approaching the Grand Fairy for The Wall ending in Afterimage

While not necessarily a Renee ending as much as a gag or secret ending, we will place The Wall ending here, as it fits better under this category than Ifree's or the New Game Plus ones. However, please note that this is separate from Renee's three "Main Endings" listed above.

To obtain The Wall ending, you must first find eight Shenlong Glyphs, which we will outline for you in the table below!

All Shenlong Glyph Locations

Shenlong Glyph

Zone

Location

Dui

Heart of Veins

South of the Confluence Tree in the center.

Gen

Field of Geo

Located beneath the Hill, the Frenzy Meowling boss arena.

Qian

Scorchwhere

West of the Agus, the Pyro Goliath arena.

Xun

Sky Palace

Northwest of the Confluence near the southeast side of the zone.

Zhen

Goliathfall

South of the Confluence below the Occult Prime boss encounter.

After you have all eight Shenlong Glyphs in your possession, travel to the Silent Coast and toggle the light off in the area. From here, hop in the boat and take it out to sea and enter the area with the thick fog.

Next, wait in the fog for roughly five minutes, then interact with the boat again to send it in the opposite direction. You will end up on a hidden island where you will find Se. Speak to them, then head west for the secret The Wall ending!

All Ifree Endings

Ifree from Afterimage sleeping.

Ifree is Renee's companion in Afterimage, the little pink character that floats beside you throughout your journey and has three endings themselves. In contrast to Renee's endings, Ifree's are much more complex and involved, so buckle in for these ones.

First things first, you will need to defeat Aquil (Field of Pyro zone) and Agus (Scorchwhere zone) to access Ifree's endings. Once you defeat these two, move on to the next step involving Primeval Glyphs.

Next, you must obtain eight different Pimeval Glyphs for these endings. There are 13 total, but you will only need to get your hands on eight of them, which you can learn how with the table below.

Primeval Glyph Locations

The Withering Ending

Renee and Ifree approaching a large, ominous Egg for The Withering ending in Afterimage

With the above requirements met you can now head to the bottom of the Field of Pyro zone to find an egg, which triggers a prompt on your screen. Select the "Let's begin, Ifree" option, then destroy the egg to get The Withering ending.

The Hope Ending

Renee and Ifree relentlessly attacking the Egg for The Hope ending in Afterimage

The Hope ending is accessed the same way, but instead of choosing the "Let's begin, Ifree" option, you will select the "Soul Invade" option this time around. After this, repeatedly hit the egg until a boss fight triggers. Defeating the boss will give you this ending.

The Journey Ending

Renee and Ifree standing near the Egg, deciding not to harm it any further for The Journey ending in Afterimage

Lastly, The Journey ending has you follow the same steps as The Hope ending, except you must stop hitting the egg when demanded, which will happen roughly around two to three hits.

After this happens, you can either run back to a Confluence, use a Resting Potion, or close and relaunch the application. From there, head back to the egg to trigger a cutscene of this ending.

All New Game Plus Endings

Renee from Afterimage posing with a serious look on her face as she summons her sword in her hand.

New Game Plus, not to be confused with New Game, is a hidden mode in Afterimage that requires you to have gotten The Essential + The Withering OR The Journey endings.

Meeting these requirements will give you a ten-chapter side-story, where you can obtain three more endings, one being the "True Ending" of the game.

The Waiting Ending

N°42 attacking Eseus for The Waiting ending in Afterimage

The first ending of New Game Plus requires you to Soul Invade Karin as N°42 and defeat the boss that follows that. This is a tough encounter, but defeating them will grant you The Waiting ending.

The Dream Ending

N°42 attacking The Unstoppable Demon for The Dream ending in Afterimage

Another ending you can obtain with N°42 requires you to go through the mirror beside Karin and talk to the Anemo Goliath in the following area. After the dialogue finishes, you will be given the option to go through the ritual despite not knowing how to perform it.

Agree to do the ritual to get The Dream ending, thus concluding all the ones you can get with N°42 in New Game Plus. For the "True Ending," be sure to switch back to Renee via the main menu before jumping to the next section!

The World Flower Ending

Renee attacking Eseus for The World Flower ending in Afterimage

Lastly, we have Afterimage's "True Ending," The World of Flower ending, the most involved and convoluted of the bunch. To begin this process, you must first defeat Karin as Renee, who you can find in Nigredo Tower AFTER finishing all ten chapters of New Game Plus.

Defeating Karin will grant you the Mask of the Occult Prime. From here, head to the Holy Grounds' Archives and speak with Owl to begin the Sea of Souls Quest.

After this, go to the Field of Hydro and talk to Samsare, who will inform you that you need to find five Mask Fragments to repair the Mask. The Mask Fragments can be found in the table below!

All Mask Fragment Locations

Mask Fragment 1

East of the first Confluence in Rainbow Plains.

Mask Fragment 2

Dropped by Auss, the Lunatic Mastermage in the Town of the Exiled.

Mask Fragment 3

Dropped by Souless Ode in the Teardrop Base.

Mask Fragment 4

Remove Petrification from the Statue in Holy Grounds via Eye of Gondor.

Mask Fragment 5

Dropped by Karin in the Nigredo Tower.

With all five Mask Fragments in your possession, return to the Field of Hydro and speak with Samsare again to obtain the Nuo Mask Afterimage, which will begin the Sword and Light Quest. This Quest has you seek out the Sword of the Lake and the Halo of Genesis.

To get the Sword of the Lake, you must first acquire four Stream Crystals, which we will provide in the table below!

All Stream Crystal Locations

Stream Crystal 1

Dropped by Izotz, the Frozen Knight in Frozen Veins.

Stream Crystal 2

North of the Darkfeather boss in Albedo Tower.

Stream Crystal 3

West of Se in the Halcyon Veins zone, past the red barrier.

Stream Crystal 4

Found in the Raging Veins zone accessed via Field of Pyro.

Now that you have all four Stream Crystals, head to the Heart of Veins Confluence and interact with the Sword lodged into the stone to the west. The Sword will attempt to Soul Invade you, prompting a boss encounter. Defeat the boss to acquire the Sword of the Lake.

Next up is the Halo of Genesis, which you will obtain from the Turtle found in the Forest Foregone zone. If you meet the proper requirements, the Turtle will recognize your strength and accomplishments and allow you to climb on its shell to grab the item.

However, the unfortunate news is the exact requirements you need to obtain the Halo of Genesis are unknown, but it can be one of the following:

  • Obtain Level 75 or greater.
  • Have eight or more Primeval Glyphs.
  • Have a large sum of Talent Points.

We were above Level 75 with all thirteen Primeval Glyphs when we got the Halo of Genesis, so we are unsure which one triggered it. Nonetheless, after you have all three Items (Nuo Mask, Sword of the Lake, and Halo of Genesis), head to the Nigredo Tower for the final time.

Once here, you will have to fight a series of bosses, which are all extremely challenging, so don't let your guard down for one second and come prepared with plenty of HP and MP Consumables. Upon defeating all the bosses, you will get The World Flower ending!
