The world of Engardin is packed full of secrets and formidable foes, making exploration rewarding and exhilarating. No matter your playstyle, your HP and MP are crucial to your survival, so increasing their Maximum Capacity will help you tremendously. Luckily, there are several ways for you to do just that.

How To Increase Max HP

Managing your HP is one of the most crucial aspects of any game, especially Metroidvanias, and Afterimage is no different. The fortunate news is that you can raise your Max HP in many ways, enabling you to stay in battle even longer than ever before.

Almost everything you can take advantage of to increase your Max HP will affect it drastically, taking it up five to even 16 Points and beyond. You can find all four ways to raise your Max HP in the sections below!

Shard Of Divine Leaf

Finding three Shards of Divine Leaves will substantially increase your Max HP, proving to be one of the best methods to gain large chunks of Health in Afterimage.

Unfortunately, finding a Shard of Divine Leaf can prove challenging, as they are typically well hidden or are dropped by defeating bosses. However, you can also purchase them from some Shopkeepers for a hefty price.

While these provide the most HP gain, they also take time to find and gather. This isn't the best method if you're looking for a more immediate way to obtain more Health. Luckily there are more options for you out there!

Where To Find

  • Drops from some Bosses (Mostly Optional Ones)
  • Secret Areas
  • Quest Rewards
  • Some Shopkeepers

Equipment

Your Helmet, Armor, and Boots may provide Physical and Magical Resistance, but did you know almost every piece of Equipment will raise your Max HP if you equip it? If not, you should sift through what you've collected and see if you have anything better you can throw on.

While Accessories can affect HP, their main focus will be increasing other Stats, so don't worry about them when it comes to raising your Max HP as much.

Equipment can be found in Chests and is also purchasable from Shopkeepers like Blacksmiths or Merchants, so keep an eye out for NPCs who are adventuring the world of Engardin much like yourself!

Talent Points

The Wisp of Vigor Talent in Afterimage that increases your Max HP.

The Talent Tree is a crucial aspect of Afterimage, as it enables you to unlock Talents (Skills) that enhance Renee's combat and exploration abilities. In the Talent Tree, you can unlock several Wisp of Vigor Talents with Talent Points, which will drastically raise your Max HP.

Alongside finding Shards of Divine Leaves, unlocking these Talents will be the best way to gain large amounts of additional HP. You can obtain Talent Points in various ways, which we will have listed below!

Where To Find

  • Drops from some Bosses (Optional and Mandatory)
  • Rewarded when consuming some Recipes for the first time
  • They can be found in secret areas or hard-to-reach spots
  • Earned whenever you Level Up
  • They can be a reward for some Quests

Recipes

The Pan-fried Steak Recipe in Afterimage, showcasing it's Max HP raising Buffs

Recipes are the final way to increase your Max HP, but they cannot be done until you complete the "Delicacy" Quest for Alice, which involves finding ingredients for her Mushroom Family Recipe. Upon completion of this quest, you will gain access to all her Recipes.

There are many Recipes, all offering unique Permanent Buffs, with a few raising your Max HP. While you can make these Recipes several times, you will only get the Permanent Buffs after consuming them the first time.

Here are all the Recipes that Permanently increase your Max HP:

How To Increase Max MP

Increasing your Max MP is substantially more challenging than its HP counterpart despite sharing many of the same methods. As you may have noticed, when your Max HP is raised, it's almost always by +3, +5, or even +16 and beyond.

However, when it comes to increasing your Max MP, you will almost always see +1 to +3. This is likely to keep your power in check, as having a large pool of Mana would make you unstoppable. Still, there are many ways to raise your Max MP, so let's get into it!

Shard Of Divine Flower

An image showcasing Renee collecting a Shard of Divine Flower in Afterimage

Like the Max HP situation, increasing your Max MP also has a Shard of Divine Flower, which will raise your MP after you find three of them. These are acquired through the same means as well, so just be on the lookout for hidden areas or hard-to-reach spots.

Finding these Shards, alongside your Talent Tree, will be the best way to jack up your MP. But, as you know, they are incredibly rare and hard to come by, so don't expect to be rolling around in them anytime soon.

Where To Find

  • Drops from some Bosses (Mostly Optional Ones)
  • Secret Areas
  • Quest Rewards
  • Some Shopkeepers

Accessories

Unlike the Max HP, however, raising your Max MP will almost never be done via Helmets, Armor, or Boots, making your Accessory Slots the key focus for doing this. However, as you can see in the image above, it's usually not by much.

Nonetheless, any little bit helps, and you can increase your Max MP by equipping specific Bracelets, Rings, Necklaces, and more, so be sure to observe your inventory whenever you pick something new up!

Talent Points

The Wisp of Wisdom Talent in Afterimage, showcasing its ability to drastically increase your Max MP

Spending your Talent Points on specific Talents also substantially increases your Max MP and is the best method for doing so outside of finding three Shards of Divine Flowers.

You will find several Wisp of Wisdom Talents in the Talent Tree, which will raise your Max MP by five. While this may not seem like a lot, it will help you tremendously. Mana allows you to attack from range and cast Spells on your opponent, and being able to cast even one or two more times is a game-changer.

Like the Max HP's entry, you will earn Talent Points the same way, which we will list below!

Where To Find

  • Drops from some Bosses (Optional and Mandatory)
  • Rewarded when consuming some Recipes for the first time
  • They can be found in secret areas or hard-to-reach spots
  • Earned whenever you Level Up
  • They can be a reward for some Quests
