Control is due to receive DLC updates until the middle of 2020 and a new content roadmap is suggesting that one of the upcoming expansions will be a crossover with Alan Wake.

Control is developed by Remedy Entertainment, which is the same company that was responsible for Alan Wake back in 2010. Alan Wake was an action-adventure game that followed the titular author as his reality begins to match the horror stories that he writes about during his day job.

Control is due to receive several updates over the coming twelve months. A Photo Mode is due to be released soon, followed by an end-game challenge mode called Expeditions in December. The first Control expansion in 2020 will be "The Foundation," which will involve traveling beneath the Bureau in order to discover its mysterious origins. The second expansion to Control is called AWE, which stands for Altered World Events and will involve exploring a new section of the Bureau.

Control Roadmap

Fans have noticed that the logo for the AWE expansion heavily resembles the logo for Alan Wake, and the name is likely an abbreviation that includes the name of that game. The fact that AWE stands for Altered World Events suggests that Jesse from Control might encounter Alan Wake through some multiverse shenanigans, which would fit right in with the strange plots of both games.

Remedy Entertainment has tried to make a sequel to Alan Wake for years and it seems that it might actually be happening soon, as the company has purchased all of the outstanding rights to the game from Microsoft. The music licensing issues that plagued the original game have also been resolved, which means that a remaster might be on the cards as well. The developers have expressed a desire to continue the story of Alan Wake for years now and a crossover event with Control could act as the precursor for the long-awaited sequel to the game.
