Ustwo Games, the developer of Alba: a Wildlife Adventure, has partnered with British reforestation charity Ecologi to plant over 450,000 trees. The studio is collaborating with Ecologi to "sustainably plant one tree for every download of Alba: a Wildlife Adventure."
On game’s Twitter page, Ustwo wrote, “We’re working with @Ecologi_hq to sustainably plant 1 tree for every download of Alba: a Wildlife Adventure. Thanks to you we’ve planted OVER 450,000 trees. Let's keep it going! We're on a mission to plant 1 million trees. View our forest: https://ecologi.com/albasforest.”
Alba: a Wildlife Adventure, an open world adventure game that focuses on exploring the world and conserving the wildlife, was released on December 11 for iOS, macOS and Microsoft Windows. It will also to be released for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S this spring.
Ustwo says their goal is to plant 1 million trees in three habitats: a mangrove project in Madagascar, a reforestation project in Mozambique and a reforestation project in the Bosawas Biosphere Reserve in Nicaragua. On Alba's page for Ecologi, visitors can see how many trees have been planted at each habitat project.
Ecologi was founded by three friends from Bristol, UK: Elliot Coad, Alex Price, and Lucy Jack. The organization has so far planted nearly 6.5 million trees. It is currently funding nine tree planting projects based in seven countries, including Madagascar, Nicaragua, Mozambique, Australia, the UK and the US.
In addition to its tree-planting projects, Ecologi subscribers have funded the reduction of 249,464 tonnes of CO2e emissions through verified carbon offset projects, up to the end of 2020. The carbon offset programs were funded in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Uruguay. By the end of 2021, Ecologi expects to plant between 17 and 46 million trees as well as preventing 1.5 million verified tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere.
Alba: a Wildlife Adventure, which has been praised by critics for its open world and visual style, is currently available on Steam. Donations can also be made directly to Ecologi directly here.
