Aliens: Fireteam Elite represents the first time players step into the shoes of the colonial marines since 2013's Aliens: Colonial Marines. While the new game is not being hailed as a masterpiece, its reviews certainly indicate a perfectly solid cooperative shooter.
It is difficult to say if it will satisfy fans of the Alien franchise with its story, especially since it does not exactly have any major revelations. After beating Aliens: Fireteam Elite, these questions are still hanging over people's heads. They mostly either deal with the Alien canon and the future of the game, since the developer has already promised regular updates and seasons.
8 What Will Be The DLC?
The main question on everyone's minds is what the DLC will be and how will it be structured. Will there be story missions similar to what is already in the main game, or will it continue on from where the last mission ends - or will it take some unique turns entirely?
Maybe there will be some non-canon, "what if" scenarios. There is also the chance that it will be different than anything the game offers so far. Maybe even PvP or the ability to play as an alien will be added.
7 Where Does David Fit In?
David is the android from Prometheus who soon becomes the main antagonist. He is also the main villain of Alien: Covenant, the 2017 sequel to Prometheus. All the same, Alien: Covenant ends with a cliffhanger that needs to be wrapped up.
Considering it has some pretty big implications about the continuity, fans of the overall franchise are still wondering when the story will come to a conclusion. No one should have expected it to be answered in this game, but some nods to it would have been nice.
6 Are Weyland-Yutani And Hyperdyne Going To Have A War On LV-895?
At the end of Aliens: Fireteam Elite, the marines all guess that both Weyland Yutani and Hyperdyne Systems are heading to LV-895 to either destroy all evidence of their work or to salvage what research they did on the planet.
A major theme of the franchise is how disposable life is to corporations, so it is easy to see the company sending mercenaries to the planet to start some fights with the marines. Humanoid synths are already an enemy in the main campaign, but fighting actual humans in levels would be an interesting dynamic.
5 Is Aliens: Colonial Marines Canon?
Before Aliens: Fireteam Elite, the last time players could control the iconic forces was in Aliens: Colonial Marines, a universally maligned FPS from 2013. Critical reception aside, it does have some wild turns in the story and even retcons some major plot revelations from the third Alien film.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite does nothing with these plot revelations, which makes sense because it is not a sequel to that FPS. Still, some confirmation or denial of it being canon or not would have at least cleared up some things about the continuity for fans.
4 Will We Fight The Xenomorph Queen?
The last level of the main campaign sees the Xenomorph Queen burst onto the scene, prompting a daring escape from the hive. The marines manage to make it out alive and blow up the hive there, which also implies that the Xenomorph Queens bites the dust as well.
It is easy to see why certain fans would be disappointed at the lack of a proper boss fight between the marines and the monster. Will the Xenomorph Queen come back in a future DLC mission as a threat players have to directly confront?
3 Will Predators Show Up?
If it is a singular Alien and not Aliens, then there is no expectation for Predator to show up. However, when it is called Aliens and the marines are also a part of the equation, then fans' minds start thinking about the possibility of the other classic movie monster making an appearance.
Whether those stories are canon or not is always up for debate, but it would still just be fun to see Predators show up in Aliens: Fireteam Elite.
2 Is Alien 3 Canon?
Most pieces of fiction in the Alien universe largely ignore the events of Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection. A few things happen in Alien 3 that still are not retconned in Aliens: Colonial Marines.
Mainly, Ellen Ripley, who is played by Sigourney Weaver, dies by the end of the third film. There is no mention of the character's fate after the events of Aliens, so it is still up in the air whether or not she ends up on the prison planet or if she is still floating in space, waiting to be rescued.
1 Will Engineers Show Up?
Engineers technically showed up in the Alien franchise as far back as the debut entry, but they weren't explained as a proper species until Prometheus. One of the levels in Aliens: Fireteam Elite has players going through Engineer ruins on LV-895. This seems to imply that they had more homes than just the planet from Alien: Covenant.
This could also be the first time Weyland-Yutani got their hands on Engineer technology. It makes us wonder if the species is still around by the events of the game and if they will show up in Aliens: Fireteam Elite in the future.
