Pokemon Unite has added the Sacred Stye Holowear for Alolan Ninetails and is charging players $40 for it, making it the most expensive Holowear in the game to date.

The Sacred Style Holowear was added to Pokemon Unite yesterday, with fans initially not expecting there to be anything of note about it. They quickly learnt they were wrong when it was revealed that the new Holowear costs 2499 Aeos Gems, which equates to about $40, or £30.

For context, Aeos Gems cannot be earned in-game, and can only be purchased with real money. This isn't a new concept, with some pretty cool Holowear outfits being released since Unite's launch, but they've always been priced at around 300-400 Aeos Gems, or 1200 for very special skins, like the Magician style for Mr Mime.

As you can expect, Pokemon Unite players are pretty outraged by the random doubling in price. Comments across Twitter and Reddit show how players feel about the skin, with one player saying, "is it a nice skin? yes. is it worth 40 dollars? absolutely not", and another pointing out that, "In Brazil this skin costs 225 BRL and our minimum wage is 1100 BRL. It's almost 1/4 of our minimum wage and this shouldn't be acceptable at all".

Some players are worried that the recent change in price to held items might have affected the game's economy and might indicate that the skins are going to be more expensive from here on out. Until the developers comment, we won't know why this one skin is so ridiculously expensive, and that's only if they choose to acknowledge the price hike.

There's no specific reason given as to why this Holowear is so much more expensive than the others. Alolan Ninetails is a popular Pokemon, sure, and the new outfit is advertised as having "stunning elegance", but it's no reason to charge double the asking price of any other Holowear in the game.
