Cyberpunk 2077 has become a bit notorious in the PC gaming community over a very short period of time, and it's not just because of the bugs. Cyberpunk 2077 on a high-end Nvidia GPU is very different to Cyberpunk 2077 on a mid-range machine, and it has quickly become the Crysis of the new ray-tracing era. But Cyberpunk 2077's files and information may actually be throttling your PC's performance.

If you are using an AMD Ryzen CPU and have been underwhelmed by performance and stutters while playing Cyberpunk 2077, then you need the information in this guide to help your machine get up to par so you can truly start enjoying CD Projekt Red's gargantuan RPG. Just read below for the essential information that you need.

The fix in this guide has actually been removed from the game as of patch 1.05, but you can rollback your game version to 1.04 to use console commands and more using this guide.

What's The Problem With AMD Ryzen In Cyberpunk 2077?

Cyberpunk 2077 has already been accused of some very poor optimisations, and not just on PC, as console players have been complaining about the visuals and performance of the game for days, and Digital Foundry has compared the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game to a "Nintendo Switch port," which certainly wasn't meant as a compliment.

There is definitely an issue with AMD Ryzen CPUs. Some intrepid Redditors have been digging around in the game's files, and not long after finding an initial config file that can drastically change your performance profile, they also found a problem with the code in the game's executable file.

Essentially, a single byte of data is what stops Cyberpunk 2077 from using all logical threads on an AMD Ryzen CPU, and instead, it restrains itself to only using the physical threads, meaning AMD's advancements in hyperthreading are rendered pointless. But you can change this single byte of data yourself, and we have instructions on exactly how to do that below.

How To Fix AMD Ryzen CPU Performance In Cyberpunk 2077

For this, you will need to seek out the game's executable in your program files, and then modify it with a hex editor. If you do not know what you're doing, the worst-case scenario is that this will require you to uninstall and redownload the game if you make a big mistake. The best-case scenario is that this will totally solve any AMD Ryzen stuttering and performance issues you have been having up until now.

In order to edit the executable, you will need a HxD, a Hex Editor, and you can get a free one here if you don't have one already.

Locate your game installation location - in GOG you can click your game, settings, Manage Installation, and then Show Folder. The game executable can be found in Cyberpunk 2077/bin/x64 and will be titled Cyberpunk2077.exe. Follow these instructions in detail.

  • Open Cyberpunk2077.exe with your Hex Editor.
  • Press Ctrl+F to use the Find function, and find the following string: "75 30 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08"
  • All you need to do is change the very first two characters of that string. Change the "75" at the beginning of the string to "EB" and then save your executable as Cyberpunk2077.exe in the same folder as the original.

That is all you need to do. Now close your Hex Editor and open up Cyberpunk 2077, and check Task Manager to keep an eye on your CPU usage. You should notice AMD Ryzen CPUs getting at least 20% more usage than before, which should eliminate stuttering problems and boost your FPS. When this is combined with the other Cyberpunk 2077 PC performance fix, and the Digital Foundry recommended settings, this should make Cyberpunk 2077 run better than ever on your machine.
