Just when you thought your campaign was over, some new evil has arisen that needs to be dealt with. Announced during Realms Deep 2020 today, New Blood Interactive's amazing Heretic clone Amid Evil will be getting a new prequel campaign as DLC. Titled "The Black Labyrinth," this set of levels will wind the clock back to the beginning and explain how the game's protagonist became the champion we all know and love.

Promising a ton of new weapons, levels, and enemies, I'm honestly super excited to see what the devs from Indefatigable come up with. While Amid Evil has a relatively meager beginning in its first two episodes, it slowly progresses to some off-the-rails level design. I'm still blown away by the final episode, known as "The Void." What a wonderful closer to an awesome retro throwback game.

The very short trailer we got from Realms Deep doesn't actually show off too much. There's a lot of speculation as to how far back in the story this goes or what we can expect to see. Being a prequel, some of the weapons are bound to not make a return or have more archaic alternatives. It should make for a unique challenge for veteran players.

There's no solid date for when The Black Labyrinth will be available, but New Blood is promising a release in the near future. Seeing as how Amid Evil was one of my favorite games of 2019, you can bet that I'll be playing this as soon as it comes out.
