The Skeld is the default map in Among Us and likely where most players will have their first few matches. Impostors on The Skeld have to contend with a smaller arena than those of the other maps, meaning that they will have to outsmart their opponents with caution, wit, and a few tricks.

There are several ways you can improve your skills as an imposter. The general rule that applies to every tip is that you need to think like a crew member, not an imposter. If you believe in this lie yourself, so will everyone else.

Updated July 16, 2021 by Anton Charpentier: Among Us has evolved significantly since its cultural takeover last year. Recent updates have reshaped matchmaking, cross-play, and communication to better suit the increased demand for the game. In addition, lobby sizes have increased from 10 to 15 players. While the core gameplay remains relatively the same, its popularity and longevity require more advanced strategies to win. Especially on the most popular map, The Skeld, and we've got more tips to make sure you become the best imposter you can be.

Create An Alibi/Pretend To Do Tasks

The key to winning over people's trust is not killing them. It's counter-intuitive but incredibly effective at convincing a handful of people in your party that you're innocent. Don't follow someone around like you're about to kill them, but act like you're going from room to room completing various tasks. It also helps if you leave rooms before crewmates and head confidently into another room, as if you had to finish a task in there. This performance does have its own set of risks. Primarily, if other crewmates are watching your moves meticulously to see if the progress meter is filling up, try to leave various tasks when the taskbar moves.

Do Not Kill Allies Or Sus Players

It might seem that every tip so far is about not killing, but that's not the case. This tip not to kill allies or sus players is all about being selective about who you kill. For instance, if you've convinced some players that you are not the killer, leave them alive they can still help protect you from being voted off the ship.

Likewise, if the party is starting to suspect someone innocent, don't intervene. The longer they're alive, the less likely they will think it's you. If you can pick off a few players who haven't established any opinions yet, go for it.

Use Crew Meetings To Frame Others

When someone inevitably finds a body, you're going to want to play it cool. Don't sit there quietly, but don't start accusing everyone else. If you can, support other people's accusations against other crewmates. If nobody is speaking up, don't accuse any random person. Instead, say that you don't suspect anyone and let the meeting end with no ejections. It's always better to leave everyone uncertain rather than risk possible ejection into space.

Watch Out For Cameras

There are four cameras on the Skeld. Whenever someone is in the security room watch the camera feeds, the cameras will be blinking red. That means you will want to avoid raising suspicion when walking down the halls.

Avoiding murder in the hallways is just a good practice in general as there's a higher chance of someone walking by or finding the body.

Use Vents To Move Quickly

Using a vent to hide in Among Us

Vents are a manner of traveling that helps Impostors get from one side of the map to the other. This is fantastic for committing a murder and then quickly establishing an alibi with crewmates on the other side of the map. However, use the vents on the Skeld with caution. You do not want to be caught disappearing into a vent, either on camera or by a crewmate who just happened to be passing by.

Sabotage, Sabotage, and Sabotage

The key to winning is controlling where the bulk of Crew players will be moving. You can ado this by using your sabotage ability. If you kill someone in a remote area like Communications or Navigation and then cut the lights, it will be harder for crewmates to find the body and give you a chance to escape.

Sabotaging O2, on the other hand, is the best late-game sabotage because it basically requires two people in different rooms to address it, therefore splitting the crew up and making it easier to pick off the last survivors.

Locking Doors: I'm Not Stuck In Here With You, You're Stuck In Here With Me

Getting stuck behind a door in Among Us

Shutting the doors to certain rooms can be a useful tool for winning the game. For instance, locking the Cafeteria doors is a good way to slow Crew down, as it's often used as a go-between for other rooms. You can also lock the doors to these rooms in order to trap victims and vent out before anyone can get in to see you.
