Among Us just got a new update, and if you were worried about this little indie gem getting any smaller, we've got good news. It's not. It just got a whole lot bigger.
Four new roles, an extensive new cosmetic system, a progression system to unlock those cosmetics, and an in-game store to purchase all those new goodies are all part of the new Role & Cosmicube update.
First, the new roles. The Crew has three new roles that can be randomly assigned at the beginning of each game, while the Impostor has one new role. The Scientist lets you access a team's vitals at any time so long as you've got some internal battery power (performing tasks recharges your battery). The Engineer can use vents just like the Impostor, while the Guardian Angel can protect Crewmates after they die.
Meanwhile, the Shapeshifter can disguise themself as any other Crewmate. Things are going to get wild on Polus.
Now we turn to the Cosmicubes portion of this update, which is easily the most extensive part. Cosmicubes themselves are a new progression system that lets you unlock free cosmetics for playing. You get XP and a new in-game currency (called beans) for everything you do in-game which you can then use to unlock parts of your Cosmicube and gain the cosmetic item inside.
There's also a new paid currency called Stars that can also be used to unlock Cosmicube cosmetics as well as other paid-for cosmetics in the brand new store. Oh, by the way, there's also a store now. Not everything in the store requires Stars, but some things do. Innersloth apologizes for needing money to keep the servers running, but also reminds us we live in a capitalist society and you gotta do what you gotta do.
There’s a ton of new cosmetics to unlock, including pets, hats, skins, nameplates, and the new visor items. Some of these items are already part of paid DLC, which the new account linking feature will unlock for you so long as you type in your info right. This will also make it easier to progress your account if you play Among Us on multiple platforms.
Among Us: The Roles And Cosmicubes update is out now on all platforms. Stay tuned for a physical launch on PlayStation and Xbox on December 14, and keep an eye out for future updates with a new map, new roles, and "other gameplay features."
