From Wolverine to Black Panther, there will be a lot of Marvel games launching over the course of the next few years. Including Amy Hennig and Skydance Media's mysterious upcoming project. There has been no official word on which heroes will feature in Hennig's game, but that will presumably all change during Marvel and Disney's game showcase next month.

The event was announced on Monday and will be taking place at 4 pm EST on September 9. The presentation will include news on games from Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, and more, and will include a sneak peek at whatever it is Hennig and the team at Skydance have been working on. That's according to a press release about the event issued by Disney (via VGC).

Although we'll have to wait until September 9 to actually see the game, the release itself has significantly narrowed the field of potential heroes that might be its focus. The title is referred to as a “Marvel ensemble game”, confirming that it will feature a group of heroes. Thus begins the speculation on who that group might be, adding further credence to the rumors that the Fantastic Four will be its protagonists.

By process of elimination, the Fantastic Four is one of the only groups the game could feasibly be based on. It's highly unlikely Marvel will be having another crack at an Avengers game considering Square Enix's rather unsuccessful attempt is technically still going, and it has been less than a year since Crystal Dynamics launched Guardians of the Galaxy. It also seems likely Starlord and co. will one day get a sequel following the studio's acquisition by Embracer.

As for what else will be on show during the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase, Disney's Dreamlight Valley is mentioned in the release, as is The Skywalker Saga which could mean the Lego game is getting DLC. Midnight Suns has also been mentioned by name after its launch was pushed back earlier this month. Other Marvel games in the pipeline include Insomniac's Spider-Man sequel and Wolverine, and a yet-to-be-confirmed Black Panther game reportedly in the works at EA.
