Skydance Media and Marvel are teaming up to create a new video game. This news comes courtesy of an announcement from Skydance making sure we know what they have planned for their brand new games studio, Skydance New Media, which just so happens to be headed by former Naughty Dog creative director Amy Hennig.

“I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game,” said Hennig, president of Skydance New Media. “The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery, and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It’s an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love.”

Hennig has a lot of experience working in the games industry but is most famous for writing and directing the Uncharted series. She left Naughty Dog in 2014 (although she wasn't forced out as one earlier report indicated) and then worked at EA on an unreleased Star Wars game that was eventually canceled. Skydance Media hired her in November 2019 and put her in charge of their brand new games division.

“Amy has been setting the bar for narrative adventure games for decades and we are happy to be collaborating with the talented and experienced New Media team at Skydance,” said the head of Marvel Games Jay Ong. “Their ambition and vision for making innovative entertainment using beloved Marvel IP was obvious from our first meeting. We’re excited to share more with Marvel fans when the time is right.”

We don't know much about the game itself other than it will be released on "traditional gaming platforms as well as emerging streaming services." It'll also be a AAA action-adventure game "featuring a completely original story and take on the Marvel Universe."

Skydance says they've "assembled an accomplished crew of developers with decades of AAA experience in action and adventure gaming," as well as an army of creative consultants from film, TV, and comics. Sounds like a pretty big investment.
