Updated January 19th, 2021: Animal Crossing: New Horizons is nearing its first anniversary and the past year has seen a plethora of content added to the game post-release. As well as awesome seasonal events, there have been content updates that have added permanent editions, such as swimming, diving, dream islands, and more.

Of course, with all this new content, there have been plenty of awesome new DIY recipes added too, some of which have proven particularly popular with players. Just below, we've chosen 15 of the very best DIY recipes that will add a definite "cool" vibe to your island.

15 Taurus Bathtub

Nothing says classy like an ivory bathtub shaped like a bull with gold accents. The Taurus Bathtub is part of the Zodiac furniture range, and these recipes can only be received by Celeste when she visits your island.

Additionally, each of these recipes requires some rather rare items, most of which come from wishing on shooting stars, so prepare yourself for some late-night walks around your island.

Materials: 3 x Star Fragment, 2 x Taurus Fragment, 1 x Gold Nugget, and 8 x Stone

14 Mermaid Sofa

Animal Crossing New Horizons Mermaid Sofa DIY recipe

The adorable and rather stylish Mermaid Sofa is part of the Mermaid furniture set, which was added in a post-launch update in the summer that saw swimming, diving, sea creatures, and more added.

If players find a scallop while swimming, Pascal will pop up and offer them a DIY recipe in exchange for it. Agreeing to the trade will get you a DIY recipe for one of the Mermaid items. However, you'll need to start hunting around for the crafting ingredients in both the sea and on the shore.

Materials: 1 x Pearl and 10 x Sand Dollar

13 Cherry-Blossom Bonsai

The Cherry-Blossom Bonsai is a beautiful furnishing item that is sure to brighten up any home or garden. It is part of the seasonal Cherry-Blossom furniture series, requiring cherry-blossom petals that are only obtainable from April 1st — April 10th for the Northern Hemisphere, or between October 1st — October 10th for the Southern Hemisphere.

Isabelle gifts the player the Outdoor Picnic DIY recipe, but other recipes in the series including the Cherry-Blossom Bonsai, can be retrieved from balloons during Cherry-Blossom season.

Materials: 6 x Cherry-Blossom Petal, 2 x Hardwood, 3 x Clump of Weeds, and 3 x Clay.

12 Aries Rocking Chair

The Aries Rocking Chair is another item from the Zodiac series, only this time it is an adorable ivory ram with gold accents that doubles a rocking chair. As well as giving a sophisticated vibe, this would also look perfect in any room decorated as a nursery.

Not only does this item look cool, but anyone who sees it will know the amount of hard work you had to put into crafting it, both with getting the recipe and farming the ingredients.

Materials: 3 x Star Fragment, 2 x Aries Fragment, 2 x Gold Nugget, and 5 x Stone

11 Bamboo Sphere

Animal Crossing New Horizons Bamboo sphere DIY recipe

The Bamboo Sphere item is sure to brighten up any home with its fresh spring vibe, regardless of what time of year it is. This item is part of the Bamboo series and is one of the pieces in the set that can be crafted all year round. Other DIY recipes in the series require young spring bamboo as a crafting ingredient, and this is only available during spring.

Of course, as with many seasonal DIY recipes, players could always opt to time travel in order to get the recipes and crafting ingredients that they need.

Materials: 3 x Bamboo Piece

10 Ironwood Kitchenette

The ironwood kitchenette DIY recipe quickly became a fan favorite, along with the other ironwood furnishings. Though this recipe can simply be bought as part of the Wildest Dreams DIY pack from Nook's Cranny, some of its ingredients can be harder to get hold of.

The ironwood dresser recipe is only given by snooty villagers and the cutting board recipe is from normal villagers. However, you could always ask your friends if they can order these items for you.

Materials: 4 x Wood, 3 x Iron Nugget, 1 x Ironwood Dresser, and 1 x Cutting Board

9 Birdcage

Fans haven't missed the irony of certain furniture items and the birdcage is one of those included. If you want to scare your bird villagers on your island, why not show them how willing you are to cage one of their friends? Similar furnishings include the hamster cage, dog house, and cat tower.

This DIY recipe is given by big sister type villagers and can add an elegant touch to your island, while also instilling fear in your animal neighbors.

Materials: 8 x Wood

8 Crescent-moon Chair

You may have spotted these adorable crescent-moon chairs in Pietro's house if you happen to have the clown sheep on your island. These chairs are also luminescent, giving off a soft glow.

This recipe can only be obtained from Celeste, who will give the player a recipe each time she visits their island. Additionally, the items required for this recipe can only be obtained by wishing on shooting stars, after which the fragments appear on the shoreline the next day.

Materials: 7 x Star Fragment and 1 x Large Star Fragment

7 Beekeeper's Hive

The beekeeper's hive item is the best way to represent your love for nature and preservation of endangered species on your island. It can also give your little slice of paradise that homely, country feel.

This recipe is given to players by jock personality villagers. If you don't have a jock on your island anymore, you'll either have to invite one to stay or beg your friends for any duplicate recipes they may have.

Materials: 3 x Wasp Nest and 5 x Wood

6 Golden Seat

It doesn't get much more majestic than this golden seat, but let's just call it what it is - a magnificent throne. If you want your villagers and guests to your island to know exactly who's king or queen of the place, this will do the trick.

This DIY recipe is given to players by snooty villagers only and requires the rather rare gold nugget material to make. It's time to get hitting those rocks to find some more nuggets.

Materials: 5 x Gold Nugget

5 Shell Fountain

The shell fountain is sure to add some elegance to your island with its classic design and beautiful water spouts. It's the perfect item to take center stage in a small park area that you've created, or as a centerpiece for somewhere grander.

This DIY recipe is given to the player by lazy villagers only and gathering may take some time as you'll need to search your beaches to get the required shells.

Materials: 5 x Giant Clam and 3 x Stone

4 Lily Record Player

New Horizons has many quirky furniture items and this is a prime example of that - a gramophone that looks like a lily.

This DIY recipe is given by cranky personality villagers and understandably requires white lilies to create. If these flowers aren't native to your island and Nook's Cranny has no seeds in stock, you could always ask your friends or try your luck with some mystery islands.

Materials: 5 x White Lilies, 3 x Iron Nugget, and 3 x Wood

3 Terrarium

If you're looking to bring a bit of the outside inside, then the terrarium is a great little feature for your home. If you really love planters, there's also a hanging terrarium DIY recipe too.

This particular DIY recipe is given by normal villagers and it has really easy to find materials. The hanging terrarium is given by peppy villagers and uses the same materials, though it needs a few more nuggets.

Materials: 12 x Clump of Weeds and 2 x Iron Nugget

2 Street Piano

The street piano is an item that exudes that hip street vibe and would make the perfect addition to any music-loving island owner. It's also customizable so you can change up its graffiti.

This recipe is given by big sister personality type villagers and requires two different furnishings to create. As obtaining furniture can be pretty random, you could always ask your Animal Crossing friends if they have these items available for order from their catalogs.

Materials: 1 x Upright Piano and 1 x Painting Set

1 Lucky Gold Cat

If you're looking to inject a bit of luck into your island, the lucky gold cat ornament is your answer. This coveted cat is sure to brighten up your home and grant you some good fortune.

This particular recipe is only given to players by snooty villagers. Additionally, this recipe can be hard to make as the lucky cat item that is required can only be obtained as a random reward from completing Gulliver's task. Not to mention, gold nuggets are a rare item too.

Materials: 2 x Gold Nugget and 1 x Lucky Cat
