One of the unique aspects of Animal Crossing is that players can dig up fossils and take them to their museum where the ever-entertaining Blathers will be waiting. The wise owl is the museum curator however his personal quirks have made him the subject of quite a few hilarious memes.

10 Fake Painting Pain

Fake Painting Pain Animal Crossing Reaction Meme

All areas of the museums in each game are empty and are ready for players to fill up with their discoveries. This includes the art gallery but artworks cannot be dug out of the ground or caught like bugs. Instead, players have to navigate the dodgy salesman Redd who can often sell players a fake painting for a heft price tag. However, there are now plenty of guides on how to spot a fake painting.

Sadly though the guides aren't always a surefire way to stop being duped. As Twitter user makemeahcake knows all too well. Sometimes even the most meticulous of players can be tricked and the pain comes after handing it to Blathers to assess. The owl has no remorse in telling players they have spent their hard-earned bells on a fake, which is a bit harsh.

9 Butterflies Are Scary

Blathers Scared Of Butterflies Animal Crossing Meme

Poor Blathers really does not like bugs. If players take any kind of creepy-crawly to him, he will have nothing short of a complete meltdown over it. Instagrammer myacmemetreasuretrove accurately depicts the kind of meltdown Blathers has.  It's kind of amusingly ironic how an Owl, a creature that eats bugs, is terrified of them in the Animal Crossing universe. It's these small character details that keep fans coming back time and time again.

However, even though he is terrified of them he still does his job valiantly and tells the player a few interesting facts about the bug they have brought in. He then takes the bug off the player to put it on display in the museum.

8 Artwork Is Hardwork

The artwork in the museum is definitely a pain that all Animal Crossing fans know about. For many, it is a consistently empty area of the museum as the opportunities to buy pieces of art are so rare. In the newest game Animal Crossing New Horizons, it is easier to see which ones are fake and real paintings on Redd's boat.

However, it doesn't mean that he spawns a lot which makes the chances of getting a full gallery quickly is impossible. Players can time travel to try to guess when he will appear but that is a world of hurt. Also, many fans do feel the pressure of letting Blathers down when they don't appear with new items.

7 Sorry Blathers

Sorry Blathers Animal Crossing Guilt Meme

It is really hard not to develop a soft spot for the local museum curator. His little tangents he goes on when explaining something make him somewhat adorable for many fans. That is why a lot of players like this Instagrammer feel terrible about bringing bugs to Blathers. They all know he hates them but their need to fill the museum exhibits is too strong to ignore.

Alas, many players swallow their guilt and hand them over for him to assess. His terrified face along with his gibberish reaction to initially receiving any sort of bug is made up for when the exhibit looks full. Although he is afraid of many, there are some bugs that he seems to be not as afraid of and can go as far as to compliment them.

6 Blathers Is Not Happy

For some players. Blather's reaction to small bugs can become irritating after a time. Especially for long-time fans of the games as this characteristic has been apparent since his arrival in the first game. No matter how dutifully players help Blathers to build up the museum, he never seems particularly impressed when he is given bugs.

Some players like Redditor pandabaobei have amusingly decided that Blathers is completely judging them for bringing in bugs after being clear about his feelings about them. It is no secret that he would much prefer to be given fossils or sea creatures.

5 Fossil Fail

The beauty of any Animal Crossing game is there is no time limit in which players have to complete it. It is a game that fans can leisurely play, leave for a while then come back to months and sometimes years later to find everything as they left it (give or take a few weeds).

However, this can mean that when gamers such as this Instagrammer, pick up a game they haven't played for a while they can forget what they have already donated to Blathers.

This can lead to a lot of disappointment after collecting fossils that they think they haven't had before, only to find out that they did and Blathers doesn't need them now.

4 Blathers Please Stop Talking

Another character quirk that divides fans over the bug-fearing owl is how long he talks about each donation that players make. It can be very interesting to learn about the various things that get donated by the player. However, for some players, it can become very monotonous to sit through his speeches every single time.

This Redditor shows how a lot of fans are now skipping past Blather's long explanations. Not every fan has something against Blather's informational speeches but sometimes players just do not have the patience and want to get on with catching more creatures.

3 It's A Threat

Is This A Threat Animal Crossing Blathers Meme

As many loyal players know, Blathers is not going to become friends with bugs anytime soon. It is amusing to many that even handing over a harmless butterfly can send the owl into a panic. The developers have dropped hints throughout the games as to why he has this fear and many fans have come up with other possible reasons Blathers is afraid of bugs.

Twitter user MuftyWasTaken made a meme that depicts the character's potential thought process when receiving bugs. Many fans have agreed that something really bad must have happened for Blathers to have such a severe phobia.

2 There Is A Difference

Nothing slips past an intelligent owl- ike Blathers, not even the difference between a Sea Snail and a regular Snail. In the games they do look almost exactly the same, the only difference is that one lives in the water and the other slowly slides about on land.

However, as pointed out to Twitter user ACrossing_life, those differences are huge to Blathers. He seems to have studied his identification of animals seriously as he can tell instantly when a player hands it over whether it is a friend or foe. To the other characters, a snail is a snail.

1 Donations Can Be Difficult

Fossil Donation Blathers Animal Crossing SpongeBob Meme

As with all games, there are areas in Animal Crossing that many fans would be happy without.  One of these being the series of steps that need to be taken to donate a fossil to the museum.  It is not as simple as it sounds. Redditor bosoxgeneral23 demonstrates the frustration of donations. First, they must dig it up and then take it to the museum.

Then, they have to ask Blathers to assess it and if the player has given a few fossils to him to assess at once he will give them all back. Only once they have been assessed, if the museum doesn't have them already players can donate them. Then they have to potentially sit through Blather's very long informational speech.
