The popularity of mermaids and unicorns among merchandise is in full swing – and it's definitely not going anywhere anytime soon. While we're still waiting on unicorn DIY goodies, thanks to the game's July update, you can now make a whole room in your home mermaid-themed in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. These recipes are acquired through the a character named Pascal. This little poetic otter drifts through the ocean seeking out his favorite thing, scallops, in which he will share a mermaid recipe with you if you give him one. There are fourteen in total, with many requiring pearls that you can find at the bottom of the sea under those wisps of bubbles. Here is a detail of every recipe you can use to turn your room into an undersea adventure!

Always remember to grab everything you see on the beach – even if you don't think you'll need it. Basically, if you grab a bunch of one item but leave others, those respawn slots will be taken over by something else, making it difficult for you to find that item later on. You can learn a little bit more about item respawning in our Summer Shell recipes guide.

Pascal can be difficult to get to show up. Players have reported that grabbing one scallop won't always automatically make him appear and when he does, you can only trade that scallop, meaning you can only get one Mermaid DIY recipe at a time. If you're having a rough time getting him to appear at all, we at TheGamer have tips for you on how to solve that. Collecting the recipes may seem time-consuming, but it is definitely worth it if you want a room with an oceanic theme. The hardest part of this is collecting the pearls, which can be rare to find under the water. Typically, if a bubbling shadow in the sea is moving, its a sea creature; if it's still, there's a chance it might be a pearl. When you see a streak of bubbles, press Y to jump under to grab it. Occasionally you'll find that Pascal trades you one pearl instead of a recipe; you can find more information on how to accumulate pearls in our guide here.

The otter will also sometimes give you complimentary mermaid-themed clothing. These are gifts that do not require recipes and come in two different designs: the Fishy dress, which is reminiscent of the Flappers of the 1920s, and the Princess gown, which is for the more traditional fashionista. The one you get is always random and there's no specific time or requirement for Pascal to give them to you. You can sell them, but do note that these are exclusive (they can't be repurchased in the Nook stop) and should be kept as a limited-edition treasure. You can even keep them to give to a fellow player or villager later. Rosie would look pretty cute as a mermaid princess, after all!

Swimming is one of the neatest features to be added into Animal Crossing: New Horizons so far. Players can practically spend hours drifting around in the sea without a care in the world, diving for treasures and critters alike. Just don't forget that you can be a mermaid and have a decorated room to match too!
