It can be difficult to pull in a decent income in the early days of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. There are a ton of things that demand cold, hard, bells from you, including your house loans, community development projects, and that sick knife rack you saw at Nook's Cranny and couldn't say no to.

If you're looking to make some more money, an easy go-to is fishing. Cast that line and reel in whatever creatures you can find and you'll soon be on your way to making some hefty profits. Here are some of the fish you should keep an eye out for in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Note: Some fish have not yet been priced because the game is still new. As of this writing, this list will only include fish for which we know the confirmed price.

Updated June 11th, 2020 by Meg Pelliccio: With each new month that arrives, avid Animal Crossing: New Horizons players flock to see what new fish and bugs have arrived for them to add to their museum collections. Additionally, it's good to know which the most profitable creatures are so that you prioritize catching and selling them so you can continue to pay off your loan to Tom Nook.

Fishing is still one of the best pastimes on the island paradise within the game, and there are plenty of fish that are worth quite a few bells too. Take a look at the fifteen highest values when it comes to our watery friends.

15 3,000 Bells - Angelfish & Red Snapper

Both the Angelfish and the Red Snapper can be sold for 3,000 bells each, with the Red Snapper being available all year round and at any time of day from the ocean. It has a medium shadow.

The Angelfish is a river fish that can be found between the months of May and October for Northern hemisphere players, and November to April for Southern hemisphere players. It is an uncommon catch with a small shadow that appears between 4 pm and 9 am.

14 3,750 Bells - Soft-shelled Turtle

The next "fish" on this list is not a fish at all, but is the adorable Soft-shelled Turtle! Unlike the Snapping Turtle, this little guy can't be placed as an item without having a little box to keep him in.

It can be found in the river between August and September for Northern hemisphere players, and between February and March for Southern hemisphere players. You're looking for a medium shadow between the hours of 4 pm and 9 am.

13 3,800 Bells - Char

The only fish that sells for the sum of 3,800 bells is the Char. This fish is found in clifftop rivers at two different times of the year. It is available between 4 pm and 9 am, from March until June for Northern hemisphere players, and September until December for Southern Hemisphere players.

11 4,500 Bells - Giant Trevally & Ranchu Goldfish

The fish which sell for the princely sum of 4,500 bells are the Giant Trevally and the Ranchu Goldfish. The Giant Trevally is an ocean fish that only spawns by the pier and is available between May and October for Northern hemisphere players, and between November and April for Southern hemisphere players. It's available all day and has a very large shadow size.

The Ranchu Goldfish is a pond fish that is available all year round between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm. It has the second smallest shadow.

10 5,000 Bells - Barred Knifejaw, Blowfish, & Snapping Turtle

Selling for 5,000 Bells are a few different fish. The Snapping Turtle, the Barred Knifejaw, and the Blowfish all tie for this spot.

The Snapping Turtle is a new "fish" that was just introduced. At night, it can be caught in the river on your island between April and October (Northern Hemisphere) or October to April (Southern). The Barred Knifejaw is an ocean fish that appears in the spring and summer (March to November in the North and September to May in the South). It has a smaller shadow and appears at any time of day. The Blowfish appears at night from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. from November to February (North) or May to August (South). It has a medium-sized shadow.

9 5,500 Bells - Giant Snakehead

Sliding in at a slightly higher price than the Snapping Turtle, Barred Knifejaw, and Blowfish is the Giant Snakehead. This pond-dwelling fish sells for a nice 5,500 Bells.

8 6,000 Bells - Gar & Mahi-Mahi

In this spot is another tie, this time between two fish. The Gar and the Mahi-mahi both sell for a nice 6,000 Bells.

The Gar has a very large shadow and appears in the North between June and September at night. It's found in the South from December to March. It's found in the pond. The Mahi-mahi is caught at the pier and has a very large shadow. It's available all day in both hemispheres. In the North, you'll find it between May and October and in the South, you'll be able to catch it from November to April.

7 7,000 Bells - Tuna

Clocking in just above the Mahi-mahi and the Gar is the regular Tuna. This fish has an extremely large shadow and appears all day.

In the Northern Hemisphere, it's found between November and April. In the South, it's found between May and October. Find it at the pier and sell it for 7,000 Bells. You might need some bait to get this high-seller to appear for you.

6 8,000 Bells - Hammerhead Shark

Sharks always fetch a high price in Animal Crossing, and New Horizons is no different. The Hammerhead is one of the least profitable but still pays a pretty penny. It'll sell for 8,000 Bells if you sell one. It's caught in the sea from 4 p.m. to 9 a.m.

In the North, it'll appear between June and September. In the South, find it from December to March. It has the classic shark fin on its shadow, like the rest of the sharks in this series.

5 9,000 Bells - Oarfish

One of the strangest-looking fish in the game is the Oarfish. This mullet-sporting sea-dweller is going to net you a nice 9,000 Bells if you catch it, which can be done at any time of day. It'll pop up in the Southern Hemisphere from June to November, and in the Northern Hemisphere from December to May.

This large grey and red fish will not just bring in some hefty profits, but it'll also take up a beautiful spot in the darkest part of the museum.

4 10,000 Bells - Arapaima, Arowana, Blue Marlin, Napoleonfish & Sturgeon

At a nice even 10,000 Bells there's a tie between a series of fish: Arowana, Arapaima, Napoleonfish, Sturgeon, and Blue Marlin.

The Arowana and Arapaima are both caught in the North at night between June and September, and the South from December to March in the river. Napoleonfish are just July and August (North) and January and February (South) at night in the Sea. Sturgeon are found at the mouth of the rivers all day from September to March (North) and March to September (South). Finally, you'll find Blue Marlin at the pier all day every month except for May, June, and October in the North and April, November, and December in the South.

3 12,000 Bells - Saw Shark

Another shark takes this spot on the list. The Saw Shark is a bit more profitable than the Hammerhead, coming in at 12,000 Bells. Like the other sharks, it'll be a finned shadow in the ocean between 4 p.m. and 9 a.m.

In the Northern Hemisphere, it'll spawn from June to September, seemingly enjoying the warm weather. In the South, it'll appear between December and March.

2 13,000 Bells - Whale Shark

Despite being one of the largest things in the ocean both in-game and in real life, the Whale Shark is surprisingly not the most profitable fish in the game. It shows up all day in the ocean, unlike other finned-shadows.

Find it in the Northern Hemisphere from June to September, and the Southern Hemisphere from December to March. Good luck lugging this heavy thing to the museum.

1 15,000 Bells - Barreleye, Coelacanth, Dorado, Golden Trout, Great White Shark & Stringfish

The top spot is a tie between six different fish: Stringfish, Dorado, Barreleye, Coelacanth, Golden Trout, and the Great White Shark. These all sell for a whopping 15,000 Bells each and are worth seeking out.

The Barreleye and Coelacanth are the most ubiquitous, appearing all year at any time of day in both hemispheres. You'll find both in the sea, but the Coelacanth can only be found if it's raining. Dorado (river) and Great White Sharks (ocean) are both caught from 4 p.m. to 9 a.m. from June to September (North) and December to March (South). You'll find Stringfish in the river on top of the cliffs on your island from 4 p.m. to 9 a.m. from December to March (North) and June to September (South).  Lastly, look for the Golden Trout in the clifftop rivers from 4 p.m. to 9 a.m. from March to May and September to November in both hemispheres.
